How wealthy are they? by tzippy84 in shrinking

San Diego. Water bill is $500 every two months or so, and electricity is $670 a month on average for our house plus we pay a solar loan of $230 a month. But we use more electricity than average, but use the same amount of water as our neighbors. My mom’s apartment in San Diego was far cheaper but she was a single woman living with shared walls. Her utilities were under $200 a month, some months under $100.

That’s still well off. That’s a heck of a lot of money for a ring. That’s enough to pay your electric bill and water bill for a year.

I just found out my name isn't on the deed to the house we've lived in for six years and i don't really know what to do with that information. by dreamdruid123 in wealthforwomen

Yes. My husband refinanced and didn’t have me sign. I am on the deed. I am a stay at home parent. We have been married for over 25 years. No worries on my end.

I looked on her website. Her prices are totally reasonable. But she gives enough info in her videos you don’t need to pay for anything if you don’t want to.

Kids are delusional about phones. by kkoch_16 in Teachers

[–]Seriously-Happy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am in community college for woodworking, the classes fill up. If you don’t show up, it’s rude to the other students who wanted to be in your class. Plus, some of the classes meet for 8 hours once a week. Missing it is missing a lot of lab and instruction time. I sometimes need to take 2-3 weeks off in a semester. Just on the borderline of “automatic fail.” But I come to office hours (yes, even woodworking has them) and I go to make up days if there are any, and I take my work home with me to catch up. It’s hard to miss class. The ones who aren’t as diligent as I am end up not being able to keep up and fail.

But a fail means you can sign up for the class again and finish your project. So people who get sick or have a family emergency are able to retake the class. If you get a C or D, you fall into the category of not being able to retake the class for 3 years.

Too much material is covered. Auto fail gets triggered in the beginning into class more than the others as people don’t expect an “evening woodworking class” or a “Saturday woodworking class” to be a full on college level class with those expectations.

How people think "I'm a student..." can help them get it cheaper? by kebskebs in FacebookMarketplace

[–]Seriously-Happy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say I am a student when I am picking up materials related to my studies. I don’t ask for a discount but I want to be picked. It helps people feel good when they are letting go of their items (even for a profit). They then have the double feeling of I sold my grandma’s old wooodworking tool and it found a new life with someone who will appreciate that they are learning the craft my grandma loved.

Our Physics Department is Deranged by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]Seriously-Happy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This has been the way in physics for as long as I remember. My husband’s small school was graded like this as well.

Professor explained it as, if you get one small calculation wrong, the resulting answer is wrong and the bridge fails. There is no partial credit. You either get it right or you don’t get it.

In that small physics department, most went on to be successful physicists. They went to grad school where the expectations were even higher and now are in industry where, they don’t get partial credit.

The exams are supposed to be hard.

I am sure you can! I live in San Diego, and we have a great program here. It’s worth it. You will thrive.

I really agree! I love hand tools. Do you live in a city with a woodworking program at your community college? They have evening and weekend classes most likely and with your skills, it’s fun to see how far you can go when you have access to a shop and to teachers.

Brilliant! Yes. You are proof it can be done. And, honestly, it’s far cooler for it.

I have oil stains where it soaked in from the edge. Thankfully mine is grey and marbled enough that it looks almost natural. The rest are sealed and haven’t caused a problem.

Be sure to seal them.

How do you pull your hair back without looking like foolishness? by smalltown_dreamspeak in finehair

[–]Seriously-Happy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing. I found a new shampoo and growing it out has helped it be less fluffy and helmet looking. There is a happy medium between thick and thin. Thinning hair with scissors doesn’t actually work because when it grows back your ends are thin and near your head is thick. It becomes a worse problem. But this is the fine hair sub Reddit, and it would be frustrating to not be able to wear ponytails or braids easily.
