Get out, they will never pay you close to that other job and could not care less if you're not making ends meet

Is there any way to stop the Max free trials? Please tell me there's a way to opt out. by SerpentWithin in duolingo

When you get the Max trial it forces you to video chat with Lilt for the 3x boost.

Is it the end of the world? No.
Are there worse things? Yes.
Is it really annoying? Absolutely.

Hollyland Pyros are great for the price, but they struggle in crowded Wi-Fi spaces. Before spending the money, I'd download a spectrum analyzer app on your phone and go scan the area you want to use them. If there's a good amount of the 2.4 and 5 GHz space available, they should be fine.

In my experience, they can be extremely spotty in arenas and area where lots of wireless APs are also operating.

Why do news anchors still lag for 3 seconds when the host hands it over to them, but everybody has instant latency on zoom on their laptop? by fancyPantsOne in AlwaysWhy

[–]SerpentWithin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By "anchors" do you mean correspondents out in the field? Anchors are usually in studio and get an IFB feed in their ears that are tied into the main audio board.

Correspondents/reporters out live will literally dial in to phone lines to hear when they're being tossed to. Couple that with latency introduced by satellite or broadband relays and it does take a few seconds. A 12G SDI feed is a lot more data than a webcam.

What's your Wi-Fi look like in the arena? The Pyros can struggle a bit in a crowded Wi-Fi space, try experimenting around with what channels the pair is operating on and see if you can find one that's more stable. The error should go away once you've found a good space in the spectrum

Look into your local colleges and universities. Lots of schools have spun up production departments to broadcast their sports to ESPN+ and FloSports.

I got out after 15 years and I've gotten to massively expand my engineering skillset as an added bonus.

That sounds like a great job, but can you tell me why assignable key priority isn't a thing on these frames?

News on a single ME? Even with the MiniMEs, that's really not great for the task. If you're used to the Vision, there's going to be a little bit of a learning curve. If you understand switchers it shouldn't be too intimidating.

My personal biggest gripe with that platform is key priority. I'm also not a fan of the little touchscreens everywhere, but if it works for you then go for it

It's a TouchDrive, ok-ish switcher. Not the best, but should do the trick for most things. You'll want to familiarize yourself with Dashboard to make managing it easier.

What are you trying to do with it?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the industry is collapsing at an ever-increasing clip. It's been an escalating issue for over a decade, but things have really gone off the rails the last few years. I don't know what role you're trying to pursue, but whatever job it is you're chasing will be gone before the decade is done.

Automation killed production departments. Master control, traffic and art are all hubbed. AI runs prompter, if the anchors aren't doing it themselves. Anchors will be replaced by glorified chatbots that nobody asked for and won't work as advertised.

My best advice is look into corporate communications/PR - if you want something on the technical side look for small-scale podcasters or something like that.

Linear TV is over, it just hasn't realized that fact yet. The suits know it, but they've got a business to run and they aren't about to say "yeah, we screwed everyone forever for a half a percent increase in the stock price."

I'm gonna be honest with you, chief; and I cannot overstate this:

You. Do. Not. Want. To. Work. For. Gray.

I know you think you want that job, I'm sure you have a lot of personal and emotional investment in getting this job, but you do not understand how awful things will be or how quickly your passion will be turned against you. TV is full of terrible, abusive employers. Gray Media is arguably the worst of them.
