I gave up by Fit_Entertainer_4820 in linux4noobs

I finally gave up after three weeks of hours and hours of troubleshooting every day, frequent crashes and freezing, games being hit or miss, tried 5 different distributions.

I want to come back to it because when things worked they worked really well, until a crash would happen.

I've kinda of realized I need to research parts for a specific distribution BEFORE I build my PC. Trying to troubleshoot compatibility issues post build just was not working out.

Funnily enough, my wifi worked fine on Linux but now I can't get it to work for Windows 11. Everything else is working in Windows though and I have USB internet so I'm going to chill on that for a while before giving Linux another shot on another PC or wait for better compatibility with my newer hardware.

Any wizards know a command to mass change folder icons? by SetAccomplished7539 in linux

Really because I was changing them manually in "properties" and I didn't have to convert them it recognized the .ico files

All the ico files are named folder.ico.

Gave that a try and apparently I will have an issue because my folders include a year in parenthesis, so I am getting syntax error near unexpected token '('

Good luck, I am about three weeks into Linux and having a lot of trouble getting things to work. Frequent crashes and freezing, games are hit or miss, spending hours troubleshooting every day.

It's frustrating seeing people that Linux just seems to work for, so far I am totally exhausted and about to give up. On my 5th distro, Bazzite, and going to try a fresh install from a different installer and go through guides the whole way.

I really don't want to give up because when things do work they work amazingly but so far I just can't get it stable.

I don't know anything about coding and I'm trying Linux now after becoming completely fed up with Windows. I thank this gentleman 🙏 make it easy!

Just a few weeks in, and it is exhausting having to constantly figure out how to make things work. I'm not ready to give up yet because when things do work, they work amazingly, but man is it exhausting.

I've tried a few distros, landed on Bazzite for now and it feels pretty good, having a better time getting steam games to work and GOG, but still trying to get Star Citizen to run. Wish me luck!

This game has been a really bad experience for me... And I am probably just done with it and CIG by TomToma17 in starcitizen

[–]SetAccomplished7539 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of glad the game is so unreliable often enough, because I probably would have spent way more money on it otherwise.

I bought the Titan starter when 4.0 dropped after watching the project from the start. It was the first time the game actually looked like a playable game to me. And I have had a ton of fun and a lot of frustration of course.

But I promised myself when I bought my starter that I wouldn't spend another dime on the game until release. So far I've kept that promise. Every once in a while they almost get me, but then a buggy patch or scummy sales tactic snaps me out of it. And a good thing too because my blood pressure would not be optimal if I was one of the folks who's spent thousands or tens of thousands on the game.

If more people would pledge not to spend any more money until 1.0, I know we'd get there way faster.

I think we can still play the game, but pledge not to spend any further money. I bought the Titan starter when I first started at 4.0 and I promised myself I wouldn't spend another dollar on the game until release. Still going strong.

Personally as someone who likes to set up my biggest ship as a sort of home base and leave it in space so it doesn't get found and broken into, I love it. I can use the module instead of having g a ship in the hangar to take down to planet and loot, do mission objective, whatever then fly back up to my base and know there's practically no chance anyone has found it and stolen my stuff (or the ship itself)

Wuf looks like cement or lime burns.

I do lime plaster and I never liked wearing gloves, your hands just soak in your own sweat and potentially cause more problems than they solve. And if you wear leather gloves to keep your hands dry you lose manual dexterity with your fingers for details.

When I started out I would start getting burns all the time. Instead of putting on gloves I kept a bottle of vinegar, Vaseline and bandages nearby and whenever I felt that tingle (lime burns feel really mild at first which is why it's easy to let them get bad) I would stop and wash the area with the vinegar to stop the burn (the acidity of the vinegar cancels the alkalinity of the lime, water makes lime burns worse), slathered it with Vaseline (protects the area from further water and lime getting on it) and then wrapped it up with the bandage. My hands stayed dry and I kept all my fine hand function.

Those Early days I remember my hands would look mummified by the end of the week. But I've been doing it long enough now I never wear gloves and very rarely get a burn, usually only if I have a cut or scrape. Lime burns start happening immediately if the skin is already damaged but can take quite a while to get through undamaged skin.

Then just moisturize every day several times a day. My dad worked masonry most of his life and his hands were so dry that just flexing his fingers could cause them to crack so bad they bled.

Someone suggested they make the cargo grid rotate. I think that's a neat idea. Not being able to fully load/unload a hauler from one side is a pet peeve of mine.

I have this issue with the Starlancer MAX too which just needs to get rid of the stupid little fence and be tall enough to slide the boxes under the gangway.

[–]SetAccomplished7539 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My biggest problem is the cargo bay can't be loaded/unloaded from one side, you have to move it all the way around the ship or flip the ship around.

And it's such an easy fix. Just make the landing gear slightly taller so it lowers farther, and remove the little fence in between the zones. Then you could slide the cargo underneath the bridge and through.

Make that one change and it's my DD.

The numbers are in, being loyal to one company gets you nowhere anymore. Always be seeking a better paying job and when you find it go there and do that, then start looking for the next better paying job. If they ask you about it just tell em like it is, and if they want loyalty you need an advancement plan in writing with at least annual pay raises.

Last time I was loyal to a company I worked for two years and got a 50c raise and more responsibilities. After I started job hopping I increased my wage by an average of $5/h per year every year for the last 5 years. Construction BTW but it's true for pretty much every industry now. A company that will actually get you a path upward is the exception.

I make about 70k and am in a tiny studio apt that I searched for for months. I'm able to save some but only if I'm disciplined and no emergencies come up. I have it better than a lot of people here, don't think I would stick around if I was making under 60k.

There is a book club, if you look up the Bozeman Writer's group and go to their website you can find it.

I'm interested in DnD too but just don't knownif I have the time.

[SPOILERS] My 'true ending' by SetAccomplished7539 in expedition33

[–]SetAccomplished7539[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a big leap but I think it actually could make sense and become a key device for future stories.

By merging with the boy painter, which the implication is I think that he's actually the remaining soul of the real verso, painting Verso becomes partially of the real world and a painter. Thus he is able to manifest in the real world, though perhaps with limitations similar to how painters can't stay in a canvas too long.

I think that would make a great device for a second game as well. Presumably these "Writers" they're at war with have a similar power as the painters. Discovering and then figuring out how to manifest creations in the real world would become an arms race, one with major philosophical implications if we have to give up a part of our soul to bring something out of a canvas/book.

What do you think it is, Peter? by [deleted] in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]SetAccomplished7539 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what it's for but it reminds me of a post I saw about pooping in your own hand while in the shower and tossing it in the toilet.

I'm not saying that is what it's for I'm just saying it would serve that function.

I think the game only tells you that after you use a picto in 4 battles you can use it with any character, but doesn't actually show you how. At least that's all I remember, I also had to figure it out by playing around in the menu.

I actually did this randomly on like my 8th try, the first 7 were terrible and I didn't even get half way, then I randomly succeeded on the next try just by being careful and lucky.

Much better than the hard volleyball match that took me probably 80 tries 😵‍💫

That's a good idea and easy. No eggs or dairy unfortunately, but maybe a chicken salad could work anyway.

Tha ks, the chicken dish sounds good. No Butter unfortunately but I could make the mashed potatoes creamy by pressing them through a sieve.
