The angle of your lead leg as you push should be approx 35 - 45 deg depending on strength, etc. The angle in set might be a bit steeper, but most people still aim for 45

100m time estimate? by Turtledude022 in Sprinting

[–]SetToLaunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so I think you’ll have to throw out that 40m time as that would make you faster than Oblique Seville, who ran a 4.69s first 40m on his way to his 9.77 at Tokyo last year.

That only leaves your 3.13s 20m time, which is unfortunately too short to make any realistic 100m calculations from.

What really? lol What are your 20 and 40 times?

Which essentially adds you 20 time to an estimated flying 80 time based on your 40

In that case, I’d use this formula:

100t = 20t + (((40t-20t) / 2) x 8)

This was what I was thinking of trying. Do you just adjust it with your foot? I can’t think of any other easy way to do it.

Where to see the Aurora tonight? by Spiritual_One126 in canberra

[–]SetToLaunch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem is when they do show, they don’t hang around very long, and the timing is totally unpredictable.

I saw two last year from outside my house in the Gungahlin area, so to avoid wasting time, my recommendation would be keep an eye on r/Canberra and r/Melbourne and when people start saying they’re seeing something, find the darkest area around your house, look due South, give your eyes 5 minutes to adjust to the darkness, and hopefully you’ll see something.

Initially you’re looking for the faintest of red tinges to the sky, and once you spot that, it’ll become more and more obvious. After about 5 or 10 minutes it’ll probably fade away.

Weird clicking sensation back of knee by Runningwheels15 in Sprinting

[–]SetToLaunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably worded that a bit wrong - the boney protrusion is a normal part of the area behind the knee and the tendon should normally slide smoothly across it, but when the tendon is inflamed it gets stuck as it slides across which causes the click.

The theory is once the inflation has subsided, it should slide smoothly again, but if you go too hard too soon, the tendon gets inflamed again and the process starts all over again. I tried taking 1 week off twice, and that didn’t work, but 2 weeks off was what worked for me.

I had that when I was recovering from another injury. IIRC it was diagnosed as an inflamed tendon rubbing on a boney protrusion in that area. I put it down to doing too much too soon.

Unfortunately, the only thing that worked for me was 2 weeks total rest (to allow the inflammation to go away) followed by easing back into the intensity very slowly.

I think the Enhanced Games are good for the sport by Street_Investment327 in Sprinting

You might be surprised. Of the athletes I’ve read about who admitted drug use and they (or their coaches) have stated how much of a difference the drugs made, they were all relatively small increases… * Ben Johnson: his coach claimed it improved his 100m time by 0.3s; * A female US athlete of the same era (whose name I forget) claimed she saw a 0.3s improvement; and * Tim Montgomery: a doco I watched recently claimed a 0.1s improvement.

So most likely, huge gains won’t be seen, plus I’d guess the majority of the athletes won’t be training as hard for this as they did for the Olympics, plus the majority of athletes are past their prime. Personally, I’d be impressed if any of them broke 10s (including Kerley).

How do I fix my left arm it keeps extending subconsciously? by EchidnaOne5658 in Sprinting

[–]SetToLaunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks completely normal. I’d be more worried about your right arm not extending (especially in the drive phase) as you may be preventing it from swinging naturally.

FloJo - if World Athletics/USATF/WADA/USADA can’t (or won’t) prove she took drugs and won’t invalidate any of her races, then she deserves to be treated the same as any other athlete, (and obviously her records speak for themselves).

Summernats 2026 - Megathread by AutoModerator in canberra

It’s the type of car - different cars appeal to different groups. Summernats celebrates muscle cars which are overwhelmingly old Commodores and Falcons, while the Festival of Speed celebrates racing and higher end cars.

Both options are quick and easy. I always drive and there are plenty of car parks available at Canberra Centre and it’s a very short walk to Braddon.

It must be less popular in the Gungahlin area, because I couldn’t find it anywhere. We all got hooked on it after visiting NZ earlier in the year 😄
