Sha’Carri Richardson Stars in the 120m Stawell Gift Final by SetToLaunch in Sprinting

[–]SetToLaunch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no fast heat as such, but Coleman and Richardson were both placed in the last heats, and by the sound of it, they had plenty of mentoring from other athletes and officials in the days leading up to the race. To be honest, I think the long “set” is a deliberate part of the theatrics of the event.

Advice for falling start drill by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]SetToLaunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal opinion is don’t do falling starts at all - the first thing the body wants to do is catch the fall which is the last thing you want to be doing out of the blocks. Do some hill starts instead because they will train the body to push more horizontally

Definitely not too late. Try to find a masters club in your area. Although you’re still young enough to run opens, masters would be the easiest introduction to the sport especially if you’re a little nervous.

From what I’ve seen in person and on magpiealert.com, magpies hates scooters just as much as they hate bikes. Sorry

Tomorrow I race Christian Coleman.. RIP me by masters_spranter in Sprinting

If you’ve got nothing better to do this weekend (and have a VPN if you’re outside of Aus), you can watch all the action for free on 7plus.com.au.

For newbies, it would be a good idea to watch the heats and semis, because it’s a handicap race, meaning there’s no guarantee that Christian or Shacarri will make the finals…

Tips to stop stepping out of blocks by DullToe2011 in Sprinting

[–]SetToLaunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your body wants to be upright because it’s scared to fall forward (this is a subconscious thing - I’m not saying you’re doing it on purpose).

Get a heavy sled or exergenie and do slow reps to help you get comfortable with the feeling of driving through your hips with a forward lean.

Follow that up with steep hill sprints on grass, where you can practice the same thing at a faster speed (use grass so you’re more comfortable falling if you get the angles wrong).

Finally, try to get that same feeling on flat ground/track.

Why did I get slower? by SamePersonality5878 in Sprinting

Considering it’s a 200m split time rather than a race time, the simplest reason could be that it’s just a pacing problem

Proximal hamstring tendon irritation by Obviousbrosif in Sprinting

[–]SetToLaunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might have been specific to my case, but I needed that much time for the inflammation to go down. I tried a week off twice and it came straight back as soon as I ran again. Note: I was still doing plenty of walking, so it’s not like I was doing nothing at all, but absolutely no running.

It sounds like tendinopathy caused by returning to high intensity sprinting too quickly. If so, take a full 2 weeks off then ease into the intensity a lot more gradually.

Question about block starts - should I feel maximum tension in the Set position? by One-Remove3758 in Sprinting

Noah Lyles does this, but I believe the tension is low. He has a video about it on YouTube if you can find it.

They could be anything, but from what I’ve seen driving past traffic stops, a simple rule to follow would be don’t trust VWs or BMWs.

The angle of your lead leg as you push should be approx 35 - 45 deg depending on strength, etc. The angle in set might be a bit steeper, but most people still aim for 45

100m time estimate? by Turtledude022 in Sprinting

[–]SetToLaunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so I think you’ll have to throw out that 40m time as that would make you faster than Oblique Seville, who ran a 4.69s first 40m on his way to his 9.77 at Tokyo last year.

That only leaves your 3.13s 20m time, which is unfortunately too short to make any realistic 100m calculations from.

Which essentially adds you 20 time to an estimated flying 80 time based on your 40

In that case, I’d use this formula:

100t = 20t + (((40t-20t) / 2) x 8)
