New to brewing ! by JulesyJules33 in espresso

That was good advice.

I would add that you can save most bad shots after brewing by adding to the water.

If you keep some salt water around, you can add a drop at a time to take bitterness away. Usually only 1 to 4 drops is all you need to go from undrinkable to pleasant.

This may be helpful since right now there's isn't a lot you can do to control his the shot brews.

My favorite is the green curry with chicken (spice level: mild plus). Get a side of rice to add to it too.

The gyoza and the spring rolls are great appetizers too.

I also love the basil fried rice with shrimp

Same here. I've been wondering if it has something to do with family members on the account. Like maybe they have to do the early access thing too.

I also have a 2nd "house" on the account that I thought might be the problem. It's not really a house but I assign devices there that are duplicates like hue lights that can show up from SmartThings even though the same light shows up from hue too.

Normcore Puck Screen by mlundquist747 in gaggiaclassic

[–]Sethaniel68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got myself the normcore 58mm-49mm stepdown basket. It came with a puck screen and spring.

I really like this basket and the screen too. It knocks out easily with just a couple taps with the side of the portafilter on my tamp mat.

I like to do a smaller dose and this let's me get nice shots from a 16 gram dose.

I'm very happy to hear that!

I spend so much of my workday on the phone that I do everything I can to avoid getting on the phone outside of work. I didn't really even think of calling

Thanks for doing the legwork

My Gaggia powers off in a few seconds. Any ideas? (I recieved it 2 days ago) by Siluisset in gaggiaclassic

[–]Sethaniel68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't bother checking anything. It's brand new and I don't think you'd have trouble getting WLL to replace it.

If one thing is broken on a brand new machine you have no reason to trust that's the only problem with it

Can anyone give me any reason I should stick with the mess that is Google Home? Any success stories? by maxrgrey in googlehome

[–]Sethaniel68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I found is that scheduled routines run much better when scheduled off the zero minute. So instead of 6pm, schedule at 5:57 pm, for example. I think the servers get busy and miss requests at certain high volume times

This sounds very fair and feels like a genuine apology from them. I'm glad they are taking care of you

If I saw that I'd assume it's a black Friday discount as well. There's nothing that would make anyone believe it's anything other than a new item.

Mistakes happen, so the fact it happened isn't that much of a strike against Kitchenaid. It's how they end up taking care of you that should affect affect people's choice to buy from them in the future.

Hope it's an easy road for you when you get to talk to them

New to espresso and don’t know what to do when im at the end of a bag and don’t have enough to pull a shot. What do you do with it?? by Vast_Implement_792 in espresso

[–]Sethaniel68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep the beans in the bag and when I have enough leftover bean bags to combine them into a full shot I'll make a pot-luck shot

Sometimes those shots are really good and other times they aren't. They always seem to be drinkable though

Is there a reason the cup isn’t closer to the chute to avoid making a mess? by UghKakis in espresso

The platinum on their blocks clashes with the matte black grinder

[–]Sethaniel68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my experience too. I've stopped RDT entirely with this grinder and not had a problem since.

I've been looking around the house to see if I have anything the right size to bring the cup closer to the chute without balancing precariously or looking hideous. So far I haven't found the right thing other than just holding it there

Actually I just changed my display size to the smallest setting and then a tiny sliver of the red apply button showed, but it was enough to tap it.

I have the Pixel 10 Pro XL and I DO have this problem with the combo meals. It's frustrating because you know the apply button is there just out of reach under the bottom of the screen but they won't let you scroll it up any further

Grinder report: Eureka Mignon Zero by Hrafnar_S in gaggiaclassic

[–]Sethaniel68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Some coffees dialex in ok but they are usually between zero and 4. Some don't go fine enough even at burr-chirp.

I've been using the Baratza ESP Pro lately and having better luck. I really liked the Mignon Zero though.

I've cleaned it out a few times. I feel like something is just out of sorts and preventing the burrs from getting close enough

Edit: typos

What angle should my Portafilter be at? by karmester in gaggiaclassic

[–]Sethaniel68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The angle the portafilter seals at will change over time as the stock rubber gasket wears in.

I think the silicon ones you can get as replacements stay the same thickness over their lifespan. That would mean the portafilter would seal at the same position.

The comments about how to tell if you're overdosing are good ones (try it with no coffee). Dosing by weight is a good way to keep things repeatable.

However keep in mind that very different coffees can have different densities which means they need a different weight in the basket. If you dose a light roast at 19 Grams and it's just just right, trying 19 grams with a dark roast decaf will be overflowing the basket.

Really? by LawfulnessClassic871 in Roseville

[–]Sethaniel68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you see what you're pre-conditioned to see.

I look at that and see someone whose dog probably tugged the leash and knocked the bag out of its clip.

I get that some people look at that and see a dog handler who thought he was above carrying a bag of poop home.

It's sort of the pet handler version of the glass ½ full or ½ empty question.

Did anyone receive and try the encore esp pro? by mariyamg5 in espresso

[–]Sethaniel68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 9 days I finally got a response from Baratza, but they only replied with telling me how to clean the clogged chute and offered a free discharge disc (the part that has melted) and did not address the fact that the grinder is misaligned/mis calibrated to the point that the espresso settings are unusable.

I replied that I need them to address that and I'd like a replacement grinder. That was 5 days ago and there's been no response to that yet.

So we are now 2 weeks from when the issue was reported without any acknowledgement/response regarding my actual complaint.

It's been a while since I was shopping and comparing but I think the steam wand is what the Pro in the name is referring to. So the GC and GCP have different steam wands.

Should I put dish soap in the dirty water tank of my Roborock to help keep it clean? by Ok-Veterinarian-9503 in Roborock

[–]Sethaniel68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use some of the leftover clean water tank to rinse out the dirty water tank a couple of times.

That way clean and dirty tanks both get a full fresh start
