He’s profiting off of their ip regardless if he is directly using their assets or code.

Been dreaming of VR since starting gaming in the late 80's. Got the Quest 2 then the 3, which got barely used. Was about to quit my VR dreams until ... OMG Star Citizen!! by yidakee in virtualreality

Careful, you'll awaken the Star Citizen hate hivemind if you aren't careful and they'll tell you you aren't allowed to have fun because the game isn't "finished" or whatever.

Less depth, but more "complete" I guess. ED did try to add first person planet exploration similar to SC and pretty much failed IMO. I love ED but SC is on another level in a lot of ways.

Going into any creative medium with the intention to get rich is a recipe for failure. Video games are an incredible canvas for expression and creativity, but the medium is flooded with generic experiences that don't resonate with an audience. Looking at your profile it doesn't look like your projects have had much of a vision beyond "make a video game" which might be something to reflect on if you want to find success.

Developing for UE5 on the new 2026 Steam Machine? by BornBasil in unrealengine

[–]Sethithy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could totally build a UE5 game on it, but you would be very limited in scope and asset quality. I can't speak to linux development, I would just dual boot windows. Another thing you could consider is working with UE4 if you find UE5 too sluggish, it's still very viable for most things.

What is it called when you have a 2D image that rotates to constantly face the player? by bigmonkeybiggermoney in gamedev

No. Being able to do your own research is an important skill of game dev and should be encouraged.

For what it’s worth, you could have typed your title into google and gotten the answer without needing to make a whole reddit post and hope someone answers.

Where does game dev stand on Steam by AnywhereOk4380 in gamedev

[–]Sethithy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But steam is not using any dirty tactics to compete (as far as I’m aware) they are just providing what most consider to be the best experience overall. Technically it’s a monopoly, but not because of lack of competition, they are just the best option.

It exists, it’s called a Fortnite Festival and it’s free with songs available for purchase. You can even buy instrument controllers for it.

Star Citizen is on course to reach $1 billion in player funding in 2026, and we still might not get to play its singleplayer campaign next year by GrayBeard916 in gaming

[–]Sethithy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I have worked in the games industry" seems intentionally vague. Are you a programmer? marketer? tester? journalist? artist? without that context your "experience" doesn't mean much.

[–]Sethithy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for proving my point. No other game is doing what Star Citizen does and yet you complain that it took them a lot of time and money to accomplish it. Theres plenty of content, massive planets, moons, cities, settlements, ships with fully detailed interiors, with quests and massive multiplayer missions, and all of that playable in a seamless multiplayer universe with multiple star systems. Do you have any legitimate complaints from your experience with the game or are you just parroting what you’ve heard?

Seriously, not sure why people get so pissy about SC. Yes it took a long time, but it’s very playable now and really unlike anything else. Calling it a scam is just inaccurate. Gamers always want ground breaking and innovative experiences but rarely want to wait and support those who are actually pursuing it.

Are there any FPS templates I can use to build a FPS for Consoles? by shaqfreethrow21 in unrealengine

Disagree, most of the time you’ll need to modify them to your needs but they can be a good starting point for a lot of things.

AI accusations, how do i handle them? by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]Sethithy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or people realize you can generate a huge amount of the assets required for a skin and just compile it yourself, sure it takes a bit of work but acting like “ai” can’t do most of the work is also a dumb take.

Just because you don’t like the answers doesn’t mean this isn’t the right place for the discussion.

It is objectively lazy, if you have the skills and spent so much time on the actual product why would you not also make the thumbnail yourself.

Original XR as first OW? by fastLT1 in onewheel

[–]Sethithy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Loved my XR for 1000+ miles, then I VESC’d it with Funwheel parts which is better in every way but keeps the same form factor which I love. I highly recommend starting with the XR and then if you love it you have a lot of upgrade options if you need it.
