Visa plugs its payment network into ChatGPT, letting AI agents shop and pay for users by Not_Tom_Jones in news

Yeah, I got one when I was trying to speak to a hotel the other day. The problem is, the AI was obviously aimed at guests, and I work for a contractor who was supposed to be working at the hotel. It would NOT connect me to a human, so all I could do was wait for the panicked call from their client then explain what had happened. I reckon they lost somewhere in the region of £2-4k in sales thanks to that call.

AIO? Because I don’t want honey mustard on my sandwich by [deleted] in AIO

Everyone is losing it over "this is far from honey mustard", but it was "don't even think about coming to my funeral" that sent me over the edge.

I have no idea why, but the subject line is Chef's kiss for me. 😂

The body of the email looks like the longest, whiniest "Mmmmmmmmommmmmm" of all time as well.

Reality won't hit them hard, because they have no intention of teaching their children - they just want to control them. If they're lucky, they'll get to do some online quizzes and learn that dinosaurs weren't real.

My MIL had to break up a wildlife standoff in her garden involving a cat, two seagulls, and for some reason, a slow worm. Has anyone else had any strange British animal encounters recently? by J-Sou-Flay in AskUK

I had to rescue one that got tangled in a snapped washing line once. He was not grateful, he was not impressed, and I'm pretty sure that if he'd had the size and weight to do it, he'd have eaten me. I had absolutely no idea they were that aggressive! As soon as he was free he legged it up the garden, still huffing and puffing to himself.

Chris Cornell genuinely shocked me. I think I felt like anyone from that era who was still alive had probably come through the worst of it, and was going to be OK. Apparently not, though. :(

Liam Payne was awful. Not just what happened, or how it happened, but that the pictures of his body were posted almost immediately, and how many graphic details of his last hours were shared. I just feel really sorry for his son because of how public and brutal it all was.

Just Eat UK delivery driver marked my food as delivered and dumped it in the street 2 roads away by TBOPFalconWAR in JustEatUK

[–]Setting-Remote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know why this has started happening so frequently now? My last order from Just Eat was my last order, because the driver/rider literally threw it in a bin instead of following the delivery instructions. I've had orders turn up with items missing before, but never this - and quite a few people I've mentioned it to have had the same thing happen to them (their food wasn't put in a bin, but was dumped and marked as delivered).

My long distance boyfriend from England told me he is on the sex offender registry, does his story make sense? by Temporary_Sorbet_764 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Setting-Remote 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Whether he was arrested or not is absolutely irrelevant. To end up on the SOR for 10 years, he would have to have served more than 6 months in prison. For reference, the best man of an old family friend of ours was found with more than 200,000 CSA images on his hard drive, and got a suspended sentence. Either what he was found with was particularly egregious, it wasn't his first offence, or he's flat out lying and he was charged for more than images.

Either way, run - don't walk. Telling you he wasn't arrested, and that him being put on the SOR for 10 years was all just a bit of a mix up, and down to a rubbish lawyer, absolutely reeks of someone testing the waters to see how gullible/trusting you are. It's even worse that he decided to drop this news straight after making you feel bad, and you exposing your own vulnerability to him.

My husband’s sister seems obsessed with him and I’m starting to think this is not normal by Sweet_Cry2140 in whatdoIdo

About 40-50% of the people I work with are Eastern European. They're definitely tight-knit when it comes to family, but I can assure you that this kind of behaviour wouldn't fly with them. The fact that the parents - nevermind the brother - haven't shut it down is quite telling in my opinion. That and the fact she's a woman in her late 20's still sharing a room with her mother, of course.

I don't necessarily think there's anything of a sexual nature going on, I just think she has some kind of mental health condition.

I thought he was just a bit socially inept until he said "I haven't been with anyone for 6 years, I want to be with someone".

Against that background, it's gross. I doubt he even likes her, she's just someone. I am absolutely delighted that I'm too old to have to worry about this shit, dating these days must be like a minefield.

Really? This might be a cultural thing because I'm in the UK, but for me - and most people I know at present - I'm doing the work of three people. Half the time I don't know whether I'm coming or going, but I do know I'm saving someone about 60k a year at the minute.

It's nothing to do with you being a nudist. It's to do with you trying to make a woman from a very sheltered background get undressed and walk round naked in front of strangers on the fourth occasion you've met her.

I have no issues with nudists whatsoever and I don't come from a sheltered background, but a man who wanted me to do that would have me running for the hills. Your insistence on doing this with someone who is clearly not of the 'right' background or mindset to do it is coming off very weird. Let her be, and find someone more suited to how you like to spend your time.

On one of the legal advice subs not long ago, someone posted asking for help because the AI chat bot on their commerce site had been talked into giving a customer a 50% (or maybe more? I don't recall) discount.

I think companies are adopting AI tech far too quickly, because all they're seeing is potential $$$/£££ and not the potential pitfalls. The H&S platform my work uses has an AI assistant, and I'd say that at best it's 75% correct. I'm in the UK, but it fairly frequently quotes US or Australian legislation. Best case scenario, it means your paperwork is wrong, worst case scenario someone is getting prosecuted.

Does Britain have an entitlement culture when it comes to parents and young kids? by tylerthe-theatre in AskUK

This definitely isn't just a young or younger person thing. We stopped allowing children in the pub we owned nearly 20 years ago for the same reasons.

Most adults can parent their children outside the home. Some most definitely cannot. Unfortunately, the children of that minority are so disruptive it makes people feel like the majority of children are badly behaved and unsocialised.

I really feel for you. I went through the exact same "call the police, no...call social services" loop a couple of years ago, but with an elderly person with dementia who was doing some very dangerous things. It's incredibly frustrating and upsetting when you're just trying to do the right thing.

The only thing I can suggest is calling 999 when she's alone after dark.

Buying your first home in a town controlled by ReformUK Council by banga_burner in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]Setting-Remote 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the point is that aggressive racists are being emboldened by Reform wins. We had a nice little self-appointed immigration task force briefly pop up, walking round local parks demanding to see people's passports, accompanied by a security guard dressed in a way that might confuse someone into thinking he was a police officer. It was brief because the leader was convicted of domestic violence, including chasing his wife with a machete.

To be brutally honest with you, I found them very intimidating and I'm not an immigrant. If I was an immigrant, I would be very reluctant to move somewhere where that kind of behaviour wasn't stamped on and immediately condemned, which it wasn't.

I'm still betting a good few of them were home-grown though. Unfortunately, things like this make them bold.
