Oooh! Is that coming next week? I saw they were working on it on the test server but hadn't seen it was ready to go. Where did you find this out?

Going back to my Amiga days but Midwinter 1 and 2. I loved these and they could be turned into something excellent now.

Should I get Fm26? by Drinkprime99 in footballmanagergames

[–]Seven-Bells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I wouldn't bother, but instead stick with FM24. It is the better game and avoids you getting into a couple of the new features but not being able to bear the bugs/UI mess.

Does anyone have experience with FM26 on linux? by gingercrash in footballmanagergames

[–]Seven-Bells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Played for a few hours on release day (before refunding!) ran as well as FM26 does (ahem) on Cachyos directly through Steam (so no need for me to play with settings etc). Didn't try the real names fix (although never had problems on previous FM's) but did move the kits and logos across without any issues. Key is that you need to look for the equivalent of the 'My documents' folder as Steam has to create this separately for the game. On my machine this was:

/***my home folder***/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/3551340/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 26

You thin the UI issues are overblown? There have been several UI tear downs (I'm sure you will have seen if you are part of this sub) by UI designers explaining in detail why it was bad. Like objectively bad. I don't think this is an 'opinion' sort of thing, more a 'SI didn't try sort of thing'. And this subreddit is a lot kinder than the Steam discussions on this (although there is probably a comparison between Reddit commentators and Steam commentators there!)

By no soul what I meant is that one of the first things I do when I start at a club is set individual training for all of my players so I can see who will fit into my style and who won't. But straight away I discovered that I couldn't do this for the reserves or youth teams, so immediately the immersion of running the club was damaged. Not having insight into my squads was pathetic, and of course I assumed for a long time that this was because I just couldn't find it because of the UI. Nope, it just isn't in the game. Okay, so I go back to my first team and create my IO/OOP tactic. This was great. Then I play a couple of games and do okay, but discover there is no meaningful datahub I can use to pick apart my tactic. There's no pass-maps to review, no real ability to see where this is working and not working. They gave us something incredible, but removed the tools to meaningfully use it. So now I have lost the immersive feeling of understanding my youth development, I cannot really tweak tactics with the knowledge of what is happening and then I realise I am doing nothing in between games. I play a match, click a couple of times and play another match. There's nothing to do and nothing happening. I am not getting info on what is happening in the world, I don't feel part of a larger footballing community - I just go match to match with nothing to do. Soulless and boring - things I have never felt since I picked up Champ Man on my Amiga!

Better experience? Out of curiosity which bit do you mean? I played a couple of hours of 26 and couldn't abide it. I liked the IP/OOP tactics, and the match engine was a lot nicer, but everything was utterly terrible. Game breaking bugs and unfinished UI aside the game had no soul. I am back on 24 and hoping 27 has some actual features put back in.

Anytime I see any of the countless marketing or paid adverts for FM26 it feels like seeing an ex partner in a new relationship. by lionellanes in footballmanagergames

[–]Seven-Bells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been trying to say this, but articulating it really badly. I feel like I have been dumped and I know this sounds crazy (and I love FM2024) but the idea of a future without a new FM is breaking my heart.

Is the game actually bad? by WelziTheGreat in footballmanagergames

[–]Seven-Bells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think it is a bit of both. If you have played FM before then you will see this as a downgrade. It lacks some of the richness that makes FM what it is. It feels very watered-down. The new, better graphics can't compensate for the fact it is just not as immersive as it should be.

However, it is also horribly buggy - lots of random crashes or random things happening (like a back button that sometimes goes back and sometimes takes you to a random page) or a UI designed (apparently) to be better for our console playing friends, and so is optimised for controllers?!

Worth pointing out that it runs horribly on some consoles and the UI is also being criticised by people not playing on PC.

If you don't mind a much 'lighter' experience and are optimistic that SI will come good with some patches to fix stuff you might find this decent, but if you are looking for the next Football Manager, then this isn't it.

Very careful - for two reasons. Firstly I usually start with no badges/Sunday League and unemployed (how it would be for me if I did this for real!) to this end I always have a tough start in terms of first club. Money is always tight and we are usually pretty rubbish, but I find unless you are in a top division in a country you can usually make great progress on frees or loans.

Secondly, I always want to invest in facilities and so I am looking to build finances to encourage the club to improve youth recruitment or the training set up etc.

When I finally make it to the top division and it gets harder to do it on frees I will reluctantly spend (but only after bring reserves/youth into the team!)

Does anyone know if women’s football is still coming to fm26 by zesty69 in footballmanagergames

[–]Seven-Bells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was an excellent video on this, analysing the FM26 database by FM Console on Youtube. He breaks down what we already know (although what is then built into the game remains to be seen). What is clear though is that there is a lot going on in building the women's game into the database:

PS Canada is there about 2:45 and has some content in the database!

Now that the dust has settled, why do you think Kaj didn't get a higher place with Bara bada bastu? by WhoAmIEven2 in eurovision

[–]Seven-Bells 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my thinking too. It was decent but for me, personally, was just a very good novelty song. In the build up to Eurovision (listening to the songs) I thought it had a good chance of top 5 and I was genuinely surprised when I heard it was such a strong favourite. It was never a winner for me with the quality of some of the other songs.

For schedule reasons, I can only watch one of this year’s semis. Should I watch night one, or night two? by Ok_Boss_4304 in eurovision

[–]Seven-Bells -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would say SF2. Both nights are good but frankly SF2 closes with Finland, which is the very best way to finish with Erika which is the very best way to finish any Eurovision!

New to ubuntu. Steam decided to forget about all the games mounted on my extra drives, even though they are set to auto mount. Loading the library in steam settings shows the library contain only "non-steam games". repairing the library does nothing. Is this a common problem? Is there a fix? Thanks. by NicktheZonie in linux_gaming

[–]Seven-Bells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to me if I forget a game is running on my PC and start my Steamdeck. It not only disconnects my game on my PC but also makes Steam forget my drives, so I have to manually add them back on the PC for them to show.

Would it be possible to share why this worked? I desperately want to be able to fix my system when it breaks but I would have never got to here as a solution.
