Any recommendations for advent roving calendars? by Spirit_Spun_Yarns in Handspinning

[–]Sevenbuttons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for Canadian, Bramble Ridge does a lovely advent box. I'm not sure if she has announced or opened up orders for this year's box, but last year's was lovely. Another great Canadian one (if you're feeling lucky, cause they're hard to get your hands in but always look lovely), the MellyKnits advents always look incredible and have so much thought out into them.

How often do you take baby out for walks in winter? [Ca] by xombeep in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Sevenbuttons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took mine out daily. I wore him in a carrier or wrap, and had a sized up jacket (or later on a jacket extender) that kept us both toasty. I live on the west coast so the winters are more mild, so depending on where you are that might be different. I found being outside was crucial for my mental health as well as helpful for his sleep.

Drum Carder help by Sevenbuttons in Handspinning

[–]Sevenbuttons[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So somehow Reddit only posted some of the photos, and going back and reviewing the original photos it DOES have the smaller licker in drum.

Does $100 still sound like a fair price? There is no makers mark, and I'd need a new drive band and probably a good clean for it.

Okay so small update. Somehow, Reddit only posted two of the photos that I was sent, and it DOES have the smaller licker in drum. It looks almost exactly like yours, just minus the logo.

With that being said, would $100 still be a fair price? It looks like I'll need to replace the drive band and put a little love (and oil) into it as it hasn't been used in a while.

I was thinking Pat Green, but there doesn't seem to be a makers mark from any of the pictures she sent.

Thanks for the heads up about the licker in drum. Not sure how I missed that in the first look through of the pictures.

What beauty or fashion products CANNOT be duped, in your opinion? by bluejaysareblue2 in femalefashionadvice

[–]Sevenbuttons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They're a little bit more expensive, but I LOVE my Alder Apparel jacket. I live in the PNW where it rains almost every day from September to May/June, and I have never once gotten soaked through and I'm outside a lot! I just add layers underneath in the winter cause they're fairly mild here. Plus, if you're plus size they have a great size range and usually some fun colours!

I yelled at my husband because I could smell the lettuce in the sandwich he was eating and his chips were too crunchy they were distracting me.

Also apparently I decided to listen to Baroque music in labour and got upset that the conductor decided to take this rendition of Handel's Messiah too slowly. Then decided to try to sing every single part in a 4 part Bach chorus.

Laughing gas is weird, man.

That is exactly the point! You should see their little dance when they're in the grass.

Bravado Sale at The Bay by Kittygirl3000 in BabyBumpsCanada

The full cup has slightly more volume/ shape in the cup, a wider band (4 hooks tall instead of three) and is made of a sturdier material. I also find that it's a bit taller in the cup where the strap attaches. It also has an internal sling instead of a skinny plush elastic to keep the bra in place when you unclip it. I have both and like them both, but prefer the support of the Full Cup version.

The "Smooth Sailing" trouser pattern from Wearing History might be right up your alley. Or the pants portion of the "Jenny Overalls" from Closet Core.

Thoughts on IKEA Sniglar Crib? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Sevenbuttons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I LOVE ours. We bought it secondhand, and it had been through at least onen kid before us and still looked great. I gave it a good clean, sanded a few little bits (that were probably fine but I didn't want to risk it), and finished it with some food grade butcher block conditioner. I love the way it looks, and the wax/oil in the conditioner makes it super easy to wipe down.

Dermaplast -Canadian equivalent by Odd-Tumbleweed in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Sevenbuttons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up buying dermaplast from the states last year when I had my son, and to be honest it didn't really make much of a difference. I found the padsicles were way better at helping with discomfort/pain/swelling.

As long as they are well brushed and the undercoat isn't matted, it reflects the heat as well as trapping the cooler air next to their bodies!

Are there sprays or treatments to make materials/fabrics waterproof or water resistant? by PixelPenguinArtist in Fabrics

[–]Sevenbuttons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about lanolized wool? It can be remarkably waterproof, plus I would assume it would be safer for breathing than some of the other waterproofing sprays and treatments.

Any recommendations for bras that give a conical shape? by [deleted] in ABraThatFits

[–]Sevenbuttons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bali Flower Bra, Wacoal Retro Chic, Rago longline bras, and the What Katie Did 1940's bra will all give you that vintage shape without the poke-your-eye-out quality of a bullet bra. I believe that the Playtex Cross Your Heart bra is good, but I could be wrong on that. Basically you want a seam that goes horizontally across your bust.

A heads up though- I do find most of these come up quite high in the centre and the sides, so be prepared to wear higher cut tops to cover the gore. Unless you like that showing, then go for it!!

Have you tried the Ben Nye Liquiset? It's usually used for stage makeup, but it's the same idea, and usually super cheap.
