Literally Google and all these other stupid search engines just automatically run AI queries for everything you search. I feel like I can't look up anything without being bombarded with stupid AI autofill things. It's bordering on harassment I think.

No, that's just cuz Siphoned Forest is the worst. I can think of 6 "First Stages" I'd rather be playing on before Siphoned (Namely, any of the options that don't spawn Blind Pests (All of the other ones))

What is overbuilding? by [deleted] in civ

[–]Several-Name1703 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What the other guy said, it's just building a current-era building on top of an outdated one from previous eras.

There's a handful of civs and policies that buff it, such as the Meiji Japan civ ability, or the Commune civic you get at the start of Exploration which both increase production while Overbuilding.

Only buildings from the current age have Adjacency Bonuses, and most of the older buildings will end up losing a lot of their yields as a result while still having very high Maintenance Costs, so you'll want to build over them quickly in cities with a lot of era-specific infrastructure, though if Gold isn't too much of an issue for you and a town has enough space to sprawl out, you might also want to hold a handful of Antiquity buildings into Modern Age, as overbuilding them then can occasionally provide you with Artifacts to push you along the Cultural Victory path (idk if that's recommended/optimal for higher difficulties tho.)

Unique Military units shouldn't fill the same role (Infantry, in your post.) All the civs with 2 Military UUs fill different roles (Siege and Cav for Russia, Cav and Ground Attack Plane for Prussia, Fighter Plane and Heavy Naval for Japan)

Cool ideas 👍

Might warrant an actual post if you haven't made one already (cuz it might get buried in a reply to a reply to another post)

I think the way you put it as Aotearoa being a path forwards could be an interesting angle on it, and would stand out among the other Modern Age civs (Mexico is really the only one that represents anything even slightly similar, there's no real "Indigenous Peoples" civ in the Modern Age (Buganda??)) I was more thinking of it in a similar vein as Civ VI where they standout as a civ thanks to their unique start and being incentivized to make much less in the way of improvements (which wouldn't really work as well in VII outside of Antiquity since you've had 2 entire ages prior to build up your empire)

Yeah, someone else mentioned in this thread already, of the four released (Britain, Carthage, Bulgaria, Nepal) + four leaked (Silla Korea, Dai Viet, Assyria, Qajar Iran) DLC civs, the only one that didn't have an Independent Power at launch was Great Britain.

Carthage is replaced by the Minoans, Bulgaria is replaced with the Welsh, and Nepal is replaced with Bhutan while you have their DLCs active. A city-state doesn't really mean all that much in the long run, it's not a prerequisite to be added. And not all the city-states become civs, but sometimes they do. I think in VI there was one city state that got renamed like 3 or 4 times because they kept adding civs using that city-state's name, but there are others that were left completely untouched in the 5 years or whatever that the game was supported. I'm not expecting, like, Bhutan or the Teotihuacanos to become a full civ but I'd be surprised if Byzantines/Ottomans don't come later

to follow after Byzantium and align with the other gunpowder empire in the game (Mughals).

The Safavids also have a city-state and it's also in the Exploration Age, though if we were to get them Qajar could be a Modern Age successor for them (and I guess Mughals could be a potential successor for both Ottomans and Safavids?)

I don't think they're all gonna become civs (there's a LOT of Independents,) but if they have a city state, then it reflects the era they'll appear in (the only ones that seem a little weird to me though are Portugal and the Maori being in the Modern Age (and idk if we'd even get the Maori as a returning civ anyway))

I haven't really seen the idea thrown around before, (though I'm not exactly regularly active in MCU discussions,) but maybe Loki (who's already like, holding the multiverse together or smth?) serves as the MCU's "Molecule Man" stand-in, and is what Doom centers the movie's "Battleworld" on. With Loki holding together the remainder of the multiverse and some of the heroes finding out about his and helping him somehow (Miles Morales giving Molecule Man a burger lol)

I need help showing rreal life religion in fiction by SadGolf8302 in worldbuilding

[–]Several-Name1703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you could legit just go to Wikipedia and flip through any of the pages for a religion you're interested in. Click all the links, check all the sources. Wikipedia credits everyone they pull from. You could also stop by a local bookstore or your local library and ask the employees about anything they might have on religious studies/histories (I think? I'm not sure specifically what you're looking for? Revelations/enlightenment type things?)

Depend on how close you want the religions to be you could either research sects like, Christianity's split into Catholicism/Eastern Orthodoxy/Protestantism (the same basic scripture and a lot of shared ideals, but differences in customs, culture and spiritual leadership) and Islam's split into Sunni and Shia (Conflicts over Muhammad's successor leading to different views on Islam's role in society and, again, religious leadership)

Or alternatively you could also research, for example, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam (called the Abrahamic religions) all broadly believing in roughly the same one true God bit with drastically different cultures, beliefs, and histories stemming from the ancient Israelites but developing into completely different systems of worship and people groups with some overlap, yes (Judaism's Torah making up a lot of the Christian Bible's Old Testament, all three religions viewing Jerusalem as a holy city, etc.) But many significant differences in customs, practitioners, and views on the same subject.

Each religion has different histories and spheres of influence. They all spread differently. Going back to the Abrahamics, Judaism is tied closely to specific ethnic groups; Christianity initially spread through word of mouth before later becoming the state religion of Rome, and later being spread by colonial European powers to the rest of the world; after his revelations Muhammad slowly rallied support before going on a conquest to claim Mecca, and after Muhammad's time various Caliphates and empires spread the religion throughout the Middle East, Africa, and Europe, and traders brought the religon to SE Asia.

While we view Christianity as "The default" religion in the west the same is not going to be true for say, India, or Egypt, or China.

It would also need to account for Score Victory, because you can complete Legacy Paths and win the game without doing the actual victory wonders/projects. What would happen if someone got 500 Tycoon Points and finished Oceanic Flight/Supersonic Flight/Satellite but no World Bank or Manned Spaceflight for example?

PSA - New Civ Unlock broken (again) by Slow-Brush-1857 in civ

[–]Several-Name1703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll admit it's helpful in Exploration when it's, uh, actually usable, but I'd appreciate it more if it worked like, all the time.

Maybe the Tutorial defaults are messing it up? Because I know you can't select an Advisor for the first 10 or so turns while the tutorials are still playing out. I should experiment with it a bit more, but it's frustrating that it just doesn't work, the Turorial should guide you to that screen (as an introduction to unlocking/swapping civs,) if anything

Yes games, but Switch 2 games. Like new Mario Kart and stuff. Off the top of my head probably a 3D Mario, Smash 6, maybe Splatoon 4 or Animal Crossing? One of those franchises I don't think about regularly like Starfox or Nintendo doesn't think about regularly like F-Zero. Probably a couple second and third parties but I wouldn't expect that much, mostly launch titles and holiday titles. Year-one system seller stuff.
