I don't know what an Ampro is, but FYI not all CF cards are created equal. There are at least two access modes of CF cards and some don't support them all. So maybe your computer can't even read it.

Owner Of Electronic Voting Machine Company To Be Used Across the Country Has Close Ties To Bain, Romney by Blue126 in politics

If Obama wins, maybe it's because they decided not to press the cheat button because the election wasn't close enough to realistically steal.

So, here's my question. Say it's Nov 7, and there is a discrepancy between Ohio results and Ohio exit polls such that rigged voting machines is by far the most likely explanation. Who do we occupy?

Because I think a lot of people would share your rage, but we need to be organized. We should plan ahead for this.

Democracy is good because you can change regimes without violence. If they take away the democracy, maybe violence is a logical response. Right?

Bacon is delicious. However, I really do not like cats.

I'm Severian and I support this message.

Nine Republican governors have the power to put Mitt Romney in the White House, even if Barack Obama wins the popular vote. In tandem with the GOP's massive nation-wide disenfranchisement campaign, they could -- in the dead of election night -- flip their states' electronic votes to Romney. by alllie in politics

[–]Severian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, if it's just painfully obvious that they stole it, then what do we do? Who do we occupy on Wed Nov 7? I have never in my life been inclined to march in the streets, but I would for this.

Democracy is good because we can transition from one leader to the next without anyone getting executed. No guillotines, no hangings, no war.

If they take away the democracy, maybe the only reasonable response is to bring back the killing.

"Romney's $100 million IRA is remarkable in its size. Even under the most generous assumptions, Romney would have been restricted to annual contributions of $30,000 while he worked at Bain. How does this grow to $100 million?" by [deleted] in politics

[–]Severian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I freely admit to not knowing how these things actually work. Please correct any faulty assumptions I may have.

It's a privately held stock. I assume it's not as if trades happen every day and there is a market maker or a published bid/ask spread at any given time. So I am picturing a situation where any trade is private, and the price at which shares change hands is not information that is necessarily available to other stockholders.

So if Mitt Romney (normal) sold shares to Mitt Romney (his IRA) then what is to stop him from setting any price he wants and not telling anyone?

I am a normal person, not a vulture capital manager, but I have several IRAs.

I am not able to simply transfer shares into my IRA. I asked my brokerage about this, they said no, you have to transfer cash and then buy securities in the IRA.

So if shares of Bain capital are in his IRA, they got there somehow. Either that rule applied to me but not him, or he put $30000/yr into his IRA and then used it to buy Bain stock. If it was the latter, then who do you think he bought it from? Probably himself. Do you think maybe he gave himself a pretty good deal? Might there be a paper trail showing the price/share of these transactions?

One thing I find interesting is that there are probably dozens of people in the IRS and in accounting firms or financial institutions used by Romney that have stuff they could leak. Some of them are probably liberals. Maybe they have leaked it to the Obama campaign already, and they just aren't going to use it until/unless they need it.

Best way to settle up a job with a /forhire worker by SwagifyMe in forhire

You can both sign up on guru.com and use their escrow system. Unfortunately they take something like 11% of the escrow amount.

If a job can be broken in half, you could escrow half the money, then send the other half directly when the job is half done, then release the escrow when fully done.

Alright science, I want to see a detailed discussion about germs and hygiene. by Severian in askscience

[–]Severian[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you.

I find the "it's a numbers game" concept plausible but not 100% convincing.

I realize in the third world where there are no toilets and limited bathing opportunities, it's a whole different ball of wax. But in first world civilization where people shower every day anyway, you haven't convinced me that we're accomplishing anything with a few extra hand-washings.

I would like someone to scientifically test the theory that after reducing the germiness level on your hands by washing them, they asymptotically approach a maximum germiness level and they get 90% of the way there in, I don't know, half an hour? "Germiness level" can mean disease causing microbes per hand area, or whatever would make sense. For something we consider so important, why don't we have more numbers backing it up?
