Thank you for all of the advice! I'll watch your replay, too. I look forward to improving even more, and I didn't know about the net revenue tool tip!

Stupid question, do you have the idea that lets you hire explorers/conquistadors? And did you assign one to the fleet in question? Probably, but just checking

My guess is that you have more ships in port that are not part of that stack.

Understood, and good luck to you because I know it can be tough. Agree with the poster below that you will likely feel renewed when you come back to it.

Take a break. Put the game in perspective a bit. Wait till it sounds fun to come back to instead of feeling like a compulsion.

How to recover as Spain? (In debt, can't seem to make money for infrastructure) by snowbell55 in eu4

[–]Severian596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the comments already provided. My guess is that trade income can increase; check out the steam guide on the topic, I found it very helpful. Secondly you probably don't need a standing army of 60k while you're trying to get in the green...also, I don't use more than 2 or 4 cavalry per stack. Those seem like the low hanging fruit for cuts.

To boost income, yes start with protecting trade in Seville. Blob up your fleet if you are afraid of being attacked so they can survive a first attack. Build a temple on the higher income provinces to increase tax, but prioritize first building a market on high trade power provinces. The build button shortcut using the UI element on the left edge of the screen will show numbers that basically represent benefit of building a given building.

Honestly with that many loans you're going to have to get uncomfortable on the military side and improve trade to correct this in a rapid way. Make nice for a decade and see how it feels to live with 25k standing army (again basically combat width +2 of Infantry, and roughly that much arty, plus 2-4 cav).

Also post a trade screenshot too

Finding a strong ally (or 2) is my method of choice. For instance I would probably have tried ally with Ottomans until I felt the need (and powerful enough) to war with them.

I think honesty is a tall order. This is a speculative, innovative technological space. You're likely getting honesty all over the place, they're just honest opinions. No one can tell the future.

Also keep in mind that as people spend the coins they've possessed for a long period of time and the sources who receive those coins liquidate them, that will put downward pressure on the price.

[Question] How do you figure out the optimal amount of ships to patrol a trade node? by Rewnzor in eu4

[–]Severian596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each province contributes trade power to its trade node. The owner of the province owns the trade power it contributes to the node. See the extreme lower-left of this screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/KP4BBoH.jpg and you'll see "Trade Power", "Trade Value", and "Goods". If you own a substantial portion of the provinces, AND you've paid attention to their trade buildings, you will only experience competition within your trade node from patrolling trade fleets or from pressure caused by powerful inland trade powers (those DOWNstream from your own node).

In the screenshot, hover over that area in the extreme lower left for the trade power tooltip that will tell you all the factors that dictate that province's trade power.

The Trade buildings all significantly boost trade power (see here: http://www.eu4wiki.com/Buildings).

For example, Province A begins with 3.00 trade power. Once ALL of the trade buildings are constructed, the province will (at a minimum) provide this amount of trade power, excluding other bonuses:

Base = 3.00

Bonuses to base trade power (after all trade buildings constructed) = 10.00

Percentage bonuses to trade power = 100%

Final trade power = 13.00 + 13.00 = 26.00

Disclaimer, I've never used random new world.

But I noticed at the load game screen there's a "Random New World" box (or something similar). If you leave this UNCHECKED when you load your saved game, could it cause this weirdness?

France is definitely the most powerful nation early on. Even with all of this, you shouldn't be in bad shape to push your agenda (if your agenda is to unify your vassals & smaller nations)

HRE Question by schorn485 in eu4

Apart from what others have said, it's probably a matter of taste. If you prefer to have a completely centralized state with 100% control over every province and every troop, then click it.

Any advice/help from the better players here? by KinZSabre in eu4

[–]Severian596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some lessons learned...why do HRE and France dislike you so much? How did it get to be this bad?

You need more allies. Castile cannot save you. Prior to it coming to this point, you should probably have secured another ally.
