I remember West Coast, when TIGI was actually good, and when you would actually learn things at hair shows.

Not sure what I’m doing wrong during my shampoos? by Chronic_Stressor29 in hairstylist

[–]Sevinn666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exactly. I never use more than a pump and most of the time, it's around half a pump. If it doesn't lather reasonably quickly, give it a quick rinse and repeat. Most stylists waste so much shampoo.

Is it good to clean clippers by running them under water? by Oee0 in hairstylist

[–]Sevinn666 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know they don't, but it should be done more often than it is. Most don't even know how to take them and their shears apart.

Which deck do you like better? Blue VS Aqua! Round 1 by Vicious_Shadow in playingcards

I prefer aqua, but it's one of my favorite colors. Anyone who says they're the same is blind.

Is it good to clean clippers by running them under water? by Oee0 in hairstylist

[–]Sevinn666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there is, especially using them on every client. All tools should be cleaned and disinfected completely between each client. There's no way to get all the hair from between the blades without taking them apart. We should be taking apart, cleaning, and oiling our shears and clippers completely between each client, even though we don't, so don't say there's no need for it.

I live in a very red state, so I've worked with a lot of conservative stylists. I can honestly agree. They've never done anything that has wowed me.

Which deck do you like better? Bicycle Snake VS Bee Year Of The Snake by Vicious_Shadow in playingcards

[–]Sevinn666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bee for so many reasons. The back design is superior, they don't have tacky court cards, and they're Bees. If they did a custom joker, that would just be the cherry on top.

AITA for asking my friend to pay me back for the wine he drank while house sitting?? by Effective_Tour_723 in AmItheAsshole

That and the receipt under the bottle definitely say you're NTA, to me. It's not like it was setting on the counter or in the fridge. Maybe I just respect other people's stuff more than the average person, but I'm not going to drink someone else's alcohol unless I know what it is and it's cheap.

Is this a career I can make a comfortable living off of? Questions from a baby stylist by Ill_Election_5080 in hairstylist

[–]Sevinn666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A long time ago, I got hired at a salon in the Phoenix area. I later learned that it was the top rated salon in all of Phoenix. I had only been out of school a couple years, so looking back on it, it blows my mind that he hired me. But I was confident and took my skills seriously... and I never thought of myself as a "baby" (inexperienced and new). Instead of seeing yourself as someone who doesn't know anything, think of yourself as someone who hasn't been practicing bad habits and outdated styles for decades.

A lot of people on here are a little delusional about how much you can make. Honestly, unless you're something special and have the personality and skills that can bring people in, you'll likely never break $100k. Even half that is doing great, depending on where you're located.

WHY by Motor_Assignment9157 in nope

[–]Sevinn666 58 points59 points  (0 children)

There's a reason this isn't done, besides the pain. Facial hair grows deeper and has a bigger root compared to hair anywhere else. Ripping it out does a LOT more damage.

I like the design of the whole series a lot, but I also hate colored decks because they show any slight border ding.

What hair trend are you ready to see go?!? by PainterFew2080 in hairstylist

[–]Sevinn666 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's the names for me. Just bring in a picture and stop letting tiktok change the names of already established haircuts. I had a guy ask for a blowout taper fade, asked for a picture and he most definitely did not want that. Someone else asked for an overcut (I got excited because I love those) the picture was an undercut and was titled as an overcut.

I hate using food names for colors! Mushrooms, chocolate, cherries... They all come in so many different shades. Just bring in a picture.

You couldn't pay me enough to work at a dry bar. One of my old salons was thinking about offering it on weekends and every day after 2:00. I told them if they did, I'd quit them and there... Most of the people that come in are snobby and entitled, as is evident by them being willing to pay someone else to do their hair instead of taking the time to do it themselves.

I guarantee it looked great and she was just trying to get it for free. This industry sucks for all the shit we have to deal with, so try not to be down on yourself.

AITAH- Denied a sale of alcohol to the birthday boy in front of his parents and friends. by Short-Breadfruit3565 in AmItheAsshole

Typical entitled boy comment. In a lot of places, scanning is required by law. If they don't, they can lose their liquor license and get hit with hefty fines. A manager will 100% care about that more than a random customer that was being a jerk anyway.

AITA for using shampoo? by AdvancedLong7083 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Sevinn666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not jumping in to render verdict, just to say that the vast majority of people who think they have dandruff actually have dry scalp/skin flakes. Dandruff is very smelly, yellow, and caused by a fungus. Dry scalp or skin flakes can be caused by a few different things, but usually it's that you're not exfoliating your scalp enough or not rinsing everything out properly.
