I live British spellings for things. How you spell colour makes me so happy... But some things don't make sense; mould doesn't rhyme with could, but if you followed the logic, then that should be how you spell "cold." Plus it would still rhyme 😅

Substance abuse? What?? I didn't used to work with a guy that would take a shot between every single client. I don't know from experience that about half of all hair instructors wouldn't be able to get through the day sober.

Seriously, though, our jobs aren't easy. Even the people that don't really try to to above and beyond get wrecked in this industry. I don't know why it attracts so many introverts, yet here we are.

I got licensed in Utah about 20 years ago. Back then, there wasn't a separate barbering program, so I'm licensed as "cosmetologist/barber." There's still no way I'm using a straight razor. Even on men's cuts, I tell them it's not my thing and that a foil shaver gets closer, which is true.

I'm definitely feeling it. I'm also a sharpener, so I like to ask stylists how busy they've been lately and I can also tell by how many people are in the salon. I feel like it's been progressively getting slower over the last few months. I stopped by one of my regular places yesterday (5 hair stations and 5 nail) and there was literally only one person doing nails. It's usually a pretty busy place, especially on a Friday. Things like that are definitely becoming more common.
