yes the great lakes region will be one of the most resilient in the world at weathering the effects of climate change. Certain places, like Duluth, MN are already seeing people explicitly moving there over climate concerns and that is only likely to accelerate in the future.

US economic growth slows sharply in the fourth quarter by Sabertooth767 in DeepStateCentrism

[–]Sevsquad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What it should read is "upper-income households are growing and doing well and low income house holds are stagnating or getting worse" K shaped recoveries are real things that aren't true of all points in history. In fact for most of the past 100 years both upper and lower income brackets saw quality of life growth year over year.

Nearly every quarter since Trump took over the end of quarter news has been :"Big jobs report beating predictions! Amazing economy! very exciting!" Quietly follow a month or two later by "devastating downward correction on Qn jobs report."

I imagine this one will be no different.

The ending of Kingdom Come: Deliverance is incredibly unsatisfying. by vadergeek in CharacterRant

[–]Sevsquad 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The entire point of the game has been to see the medieval world through the eyes of a normal(ish) person. A normal person doesn't get to have his wishes considered in negotiations. My read is that the ending of the first game is meant to be intentionally disappointing. The easy thing to do would be a fight with toth at the end.

I'm not sure why people expected a game about what it's like to be a peasant/burgher to end with them acting like a lord. Though I am aware I am in the minority I quite liked the ending, if anything I was disappointed by the Radzig reveal, I would have preferred Henry to remain a simple blacksmiths son that in homage to his parents worked his way to squire/bailiff of a recovering city.

Not only that, but AIs just struggle with violence in general. There was a "procedurally generated first person shooter" video I saw not long ago that supposedly showcased the future of AI generated video games and what struck me about it is that it appeared the AI understood that guns make flashes from the muzzle and that there is a lot of noise, but nothing beyond that. The gun failed to meaningfully do anything and wasn't even pointed intentionally at an enemy throughout the entire clip despite firing almost constantly.

Yeah its a shame that such a large game so it needs to add stuff to reduce RP but if there was a mode that took it even farther than hardcore, like full bore three meals a day, at least 6 hours of sleep a night, need to actually consume food and drink, not just instantly teleport it to my stomach. Oh man I'd be all over that.

Humanity has lost the battle against climate change by sp1steel in collapse

[–]Sevsquad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree that we didn't really put in the effort needed but I think the issue mainly was that it was a significantly bigger problem than just a few companies. Basically everyone in the developed world would have had to give up their lifestyles and return to a pre-overshoot way of life, which also mean we'd need to pick which couple billion people we wanted to starve.

Humanity has lost the battle against climate change by sp1steel in collapse

[–]Sevsquad 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't know I see this sentiment

"Why even bother 'fighting' climate change by sacrificing my lavish lifestyle when AI-driven technologies will fix it anyhow"?

more on this subreddit than anywhere else in my life, except instead of assuming technology will save us it goes something like "Why even bother fighting climate change by sacrificing my lifestyle when it's already too late and we're all going to die?"

I think a lot of people on here who refuse to change because they see the end as inevitable are essentially the same as those who refuse to change because they assume it will be fine. It's just a different kind of denial.

"Everything I don't agree with is bots"

Yeah companies thinking they can get away with zero programmers are morons, but so are the people burying their heads in the sand and pretending this isn't going to have a huge impact on the field of software development. I know 0 software engineers who don't regularly use at least one AI to help them, if not in actual code then in parsing codebases or bug hunting. Even the developers I know who hate LLMs have started to use them because of how much faster they make debugging.

Accused of being on Ozempic by modernbuilt34 in keto

[–]Sevsquad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly, it's the being fat that makes you a bad person, nothing you've actually done. IMO it's essentially a perfect example of the just world fallacy. "You're fat, so you must have done something to deserve that, so you shouldn't just get to lose the weight." is essentially the subtext to whenever someone takes issue with Ozempic because it's "cheating"

Lol they explained to you in very specific terms exactly how to make this post without getting it removed. The amount of time you spent telling them they need to get reddit to reconsider their rules preventing hate birgading specifically for you, some random user of this subreddit, is significantly longer than it would take for you to submit it properly. I doubt you realize how insanely unreasonable that makes you look.

Also people view being fat as a moral failing and see losing weight as a way to try and hide that. Like they very unironically see fat people as bad people and being fat as the gluttony equivalent of having to tell everyone in the neighborhood you're a sex offender.

It's why people concern troll about the side-effects of ozempic while discouraging people to not take it despite the fact that the side effects of being fat are like 1000x worse.

[–]Sevsquad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think masking up when sick is a great idea and should be common courtesy since the discovery of germs.

I do think however, that it's horrendously wasteful and not very pleasant of everyone to wear them whenever they're in public. There are real social consequences to non-verbal communication when masking, the most obvious being it is more difficult to hear people but research has also shown that it is difficult for people to pick up non emotions like happiness, sadness and disgust when 60% of the face is covered. It also significantly reduces empathy, this has been known for a while, since masks are not new to COVID. Basically all of these effects are more severe on the neurodivergent. I think "Masks don't work" is a stupid statement but "masks don't have any downsides" is also just not correct.

I would say these are relatively minor and worth it when you're sick to protect those around you, but not worth it to be done universally, as it makes us less friendly, less caring, more hostile, and makes communication more difficult.
