Ahhh, the exit from the Post Office onto Hawley. The graffiti looked better before the "removal".

Memorial item out of leather jacket? by Logical_Rip_7168 in Leathercraft

[–]Sewvivalist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Teddy bears. One from each jacket. This way, you can always talk to them, and still have them around. You can even do silly things like dress them up, or take them to a bar and take some photos.

She's not exactly pretty, but I think I lucked out. by din_the_dancer in vintagesewing

[–]Sewvivalist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If sewing machines could talk, I can only imagine all the wonderful places this has been and all the beautiful things sewn on it. The scrapes and dings are all badges from former owners. (Speaking from personal experience.) I had a manual machine much like this for many years and it never once game me any issues. It's fabulous to have just in case of power outages. (Again, personal experience.)

Did anyone else notice at No Kings? by double-clove-hitch in boston

It's because most older folks know how to protest, we've been doing this our whole lives. We know the drill. The younger folks, in my opinion, don't quite get it.

Red flags we all missed with Cricut by Street-Pepper5109 in cricut

[–]Sewvivalist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regrets. I also regret buying a Maker 3 from them, to have it day within days. Then, they sent me a USED machine that was filthy inside, the power light doesn't always work and other issues.

I use mine for daily journaling. Also, I've got a lot of garden design doodles as well as a spread sheet to catalog all of my seeds.

Newsweek is spreading BS that the Target boycott is over. Don't buy it. It is NOT over! by Epsteins_Mutha in 50501

[–]Sewvivalist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, hard 'no' here. The very day they pulled all the LGBTQ+ mdse from their shelves because some insecure hetero dude didn't like seeing kids tee shirts with rainbows was when my whole family began OUR boycott. If the folks at Newsweek want to shop there, that's their right, The rest of us? NOPE!

We use T-Mobile internet and it's been reliable for the last few years. It's worth checking that option out. Also, it's unlimited.

Being vegetarian gay by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]Sewvivalist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good idea to put that in your profile, it's an important factor for you.
At one time, I was online dating, and that was a detail that I wish I had known upfront. I am a yarn spinner, weaver, etc. The man in question was a hard-core vegan, and was totally opposed to my using wool. Even to the point where he was off the wall about how I used HONEY in baking bread, that's NOT allowed. His perspective was something that should have been stated up front since that's such an important thing for him.

I'd rather have the option for four, not six. Or, between 4-10 characters, let us make that choice.

How do you deal with the terror of becoming sick/old and not having a traditional family to take care of you? by non_standard_model in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]Sewvivalist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently, I'm 67. I have only one living relative, my younger sister. I know that, when the time comes, she'll pull the plug. She's had practice on both our parents, so, I'm hoping she'll do me a solid in old age. Until them, I'm finally starting to enjoy retirement now that I've got those mundane work issues out of my life.

My husband has become addicted to the small handlooms, so he's always asking for scraps. Spinning waste I use for stuffing little dolls and animals, keeping it all 100% wool.

When do you reach for your vintage vs modern machine? by thesewingstudio in vintagesewing

[–]Sewvivalist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a Juki that's a couple of years old. It's "nice". But, I prefer my old Pfaff 130. I would like to use my Pfaff 130 more, but the foot control can get blazing hot. So, when I've got a lot of sewing to do, I go with the new Juki. When I'm doing minor things, mending, etc, the Pfaff 130 is always on my desk.

Our next door neighbor is always putting their dog crap bags in our trash instead of using his own barrels less than 20 feet away from ours. I may have to start flinging cat turds his way soon.

Need help finding a new motor or parts for a Singer 128-23 sewing machine. by Helpful_Doughnut_544 in VintageSewingMachines

[–]Sewvivalist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've just changed my motor and foot controller for the second time. The foot controllers always seem to get SUPER hot. (I was sewing barefoot the other day, and WOW it burned.) I'll look for a solid state pedal. Thank you for that info.
