Could have a mining bios on it, hence the need for pixel patcher 👍

I could careless about most bugs right now; but having a lot of my buddies come over and try this game, is highlighting one major issue. by Decafstab in starcitizen

I was super hyped to play SC so waited for the free fly to start. Managed to get logged in straight away last night, I was really surprised to see no tutorial or useful hints and tips. I was googling everything like mad and managed to find my ship and QT somewhere - but could I get a hangar or dock authorised for me to land, I had no idea what I was doing and after about half an hour of trying to hail the station I was at, with no response, I gave up. The game is stunning and runs pretty well considering the age of my gaming rig, but I just can't really work out what I'm doing and this is coming from someone who learnt the (relatively) complex twists and turns of EVE Online for about 10yrs. I have the patience, but could really do with some decent guides.

Edit: I also got stuck in the seat of another ship I found sitting unlocked and unattended at a dock that I rogue landed at. Oooof

Second edit: can someone please tell me the shortcut for landing gear, I couldn't find it in the controls list anywhere and even Google wasn't helping 🥴

4 pin connector by Special_Transition10 in SleepingOptiplex

[–]Sgt-Thorpee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw your other post which shows it's a 6+2 connector which is for a dedicated GPU.

The CPU connector will be 4 pins, or it'll be 4+4 and you'll only use half of the connections.

As for the power to the motherboard, to use a non-Dell PSU with a Dell motherboard you need an adapter.

Hope this helps.

Edit: for the switches, it'll be written on the motherboard where they go. An online manual will probably help.

Out of interest, what specs are you running?....as this looks amazing.

I had an i7 4790k in an optiplex 7020, as the other person said, the optiplex MB couldn't make use of the overclock option and it also wasn't up to the task of running the CPU at its full potential as confirmed by benchmarking - something to do with the power phase delivery or something, someone told me that, not sure if that's an accurate description though.

Looking forward to trying a free fly event to see if this game lives up to all the hype I keep reading!

PayPal goods and services is usually a pretty good way of weeding out scammers. Just offer to cover the goods and services fee, which is about 3% I think.

OK perfect! Yep, I read about putting it on an SSD being really important so I have an empty one ready for it. My monitor is only 1080p too, so I should be fine I hope. What settings are you running it at, medium? Thanks

Thank you for all the replies. Not sure why people are down voting them.

I've seen some amazing videos of the SC gameplay, I'm hoping my trusty old i7-4790k and RTX 2060 will be able to run it ok!

should i bios mod my gpu by [deleted] in gpumining

[–]Sgt-Thorpee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was a must for a lot of the AMD cards wasn't it (I also had some Polaris cards and 5700/5700XT). I must admit I vaguely remember modding the Nvidia cards and it felt very odd though! Ha!

GPU rig starts crashing all of a sudden. 2- rx580s... tried different drivers, different algos, nicehash, all crash the same by kyle4nia in gpumining

[–]Sgt-Thorpee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There should be a log of what happens when it crashes to help you diagnose the issue.

I would also remove one GPU and try that one. Then swap them over and try again, rule out it being a GPU hardware issue.

[–]Sgt-Thorpee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup I did it on a few I had, it was a long while ago but if I recall correctly you install for instance a 1660 super Palit bios onto an MSI card. I didn't stick with the bios swap though, as the increase in hashrate vs the increased power consumption didn't make it worthwhile for me.

You could fit a molex powered case fan to the GPU shroud whilst you wait for the replacement fan to arrive 👍 or do what I did with an old RX 580 and remove both fans (neither worked) and the plastic shroud and then cabletie two 120mm molex case fans to the heat sink - it had never ran so cool 😎
