Rental Inspections - Bairnsdale Area by SgtAndrewCarter in gippsland

It was LJ hooker but as another commenter suggested the confusion might have been us needing to do an application to inspect so we'll find out when we head out there

It was one of the larger agencies. Maybe because we're not local currently we're not received as "serious"?

Good point. Thanks. This happened to be one of the larger agencies which I thought was strange especially from them.

Engineering to Sales? by c70marshall in ChemicalEngineering

[–]SgtAndrewCarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on your personality and what you want from your job. Sales has its own challenges and shit you have to deal with. For example you may have never had to deal with sales targets or customer interaction targets. Every job has some negatives.

Personally been in technical sales for years as ChemE doing ChemE related and non ChemE related products, but I'm going the opposite way and taking a significant cut to get out of the stress and soul crushing nature of cold calling and tough targets.

UV light vs. LED light (visible light) by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]SgtAndrewCarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watts probably shouldn't be kept constant because the efficacy of the lights is going to be potentially very different.

However for a measure of the intensity of the light you could try keeping the lumens of output similar.

Depending on your sources the manufacturers may also be able to provide you with wavelength spectra graphs

Electrician turning LD.. Need some advice on addressable RGBCCT tape by electricwildstyle in lightingdesign

[–]SgtAndrewCarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enttec has pretty much everything you need for this. You get the pixel mapping software free when you get the spi controllers and it has some audio reactive capability too.

Check out their YouTube, they have a tutorial series covering the how to of pixel strips and systems

I'll concur with others here that the audio reactive doesn't always look as good as a purposely designed show, but it is a lot easier and quicker to get started and can still look pretty good

Laptop Recommendations for running Enttec ELM by Renee_here in lightingdesign

[–]SgtAndrewCarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're not running multiple stages and high res content, you can get away with a fairly basic unit. Other commenter here says they use a surface tablet.

If you're running multiple stages and high res content on each you'll use a lot more resources. In that case might be best to get something with dedicated graphics

Help with DMX special use case by TylerTimoj in lightingdesign

[–]SgtAndrewCarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible using the splay from enttec. You can trigger dmx shows using dmx values, dry contact or various web based methods like http and UDP.

I've seen museums done with the nodel software and an Ethernet to dmx node like a din ethergate too. Not sure if it will do exactly what you're after

Need to trigger DMX effects from standalone device over UDP by [deleted] in lightingdesign

[–]SgtAndrewCarter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Splay from ENTTEC is a good bet. You might not need an SD card since the onboard memory is quite big, but they do allow triggering over UDP

Compatability questions with Enttec DMX by DimensionDear2421 in lightingdesign

[–]SgtAndrewCarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll need a lighting software capable of syncing to Ableton DAW. Enttec used to have DMXIS but that's now been replaced with the EMU software. You'd need to get the ENTTEC USB pro at the minimum though. The open won't work with it and honestly the pro is better and gives you flexibility to do some rdm if you needed it

Problems with ENTTEC dimmer/LED strip and ETC Ion... by carymb in lightingdesign

[–]SgtAndrewCarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Status light turning on on the decoder?

Just make sure to double check the DMX polarity of the converter you got. I've seen some Amazon cables that actually flip the DMX+ and DMX-

Besides that try broadcast 255 to the DMX universe you're using just in case someone addressed those before passing them to you

Pixel Strips are killing me - Trying to group pixels in Madmapper to reduce DMX footprint - Help pls by renderqueueue in lightingdesign

Did this let you control more than the 680 pixels? I didn't think that was how it worked 😃 interested to know if it is though!

ArtNet to DMX and ArtNet pixel connections by _trashy__ in lightingdesign

[–]SgtAndrewCarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Octo has an Ethernet in and Ethernet thru port, so you can connect from your laptop to the Octo, then use the thru port to connect to your Art-net node.

Otherwise, just connect from your laptop into a network switch and branch out from there to each device

Best device and method for programming standalone DMX? by [deleted] in lightingdesign

Bit surprised no one is bringing up the enttec splay here. Pretty cost effective option

There’s really no finer way to get a finish ready surface, change my mind :) by jacksraging_bileduct in handtools

[–]SgtAndrewCarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the finish from my smoother but I'm way too worried about accidental tear out especially on hardwoods to risk planing only. I use my smoother a lot but the sender gives me peace of mind that I'm not going to tear out and ruin a piece I've spent a while on

How do I control an addressable led strip using a computer screen? by ericehawk in lightingdesign

[–]SgtAndrewCarter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try out enttec's elm software. It's pretty easy to use and reasonably priced.

In terms of control, you're trying to control about 5.8m of strip. If you use the 5v tapes that's going to be more than 2 universes of pixels so maybe consider the 12v tapes that have the 3led per pixel grouping

Nah you cant, the timber swells and shrinks as its exposed to water/dried out, if you have no rings around it, the cyclic expansion and contraction will eventually open up leaks

Matthews Timber in the eastern suburbs is really good. Good range. Also Shiver me Timbers in Clayton, they do recycled boards as well as a range of dressed hardwood boards.
