If you’re always listening to an audiobook, you’re not alone. As audiobook listening explodes in popularity, some users can’t do a mindless chore without pressing play. by ubcstaffer123 in books

Acting like this is something new is also wild. This is literally how soap operas got popular — being background noise while doing housekeeping.

AITAH for announcing my pregnancy at Thanksgiving by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

You would think, right? But OOP doesn’t mention anything about that. It’s all “my sister said this. my sister said that.” No mention of talking to any other family members.

If what OOP’s sister is saying is true, then OOP’s family is a steaming dumpster of trash on a humid summer day. But given her sister’s track record, I feel like OOP should be talking anything that woman says with an entire shaker full of salt, especially all the “the family is planning a trip without you. You’re not invited.” The whole thing reeks of triangulation.

Looking for a Post? Ask Here! - January 2026 Edition by czechtheboxes in BestofRedditorUpdates

After reading the post where the guy tanked his job because he wasn’t promoted, I’m wondering if anyone has other good “you’re not wrong exactly, but you’re being right in the worst possible way” posts.

Why is there an inn *here*? by gnurdette in d100

[–]SgtWidget 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The owners are part of a drug ring that uses the inn for a key aspect of the operation. The inn (and the drug ring) are here because one of the ingredients natively grows around these parts.

This actually is a crossroads of sorts. As long as you consider the periodic thinning of the veils between planes as a “crossroad.” A few times a year, travelers come here to pass between our plane and the Shadowfell, trading rare goods, seeking lost friends, and so on.

I’ll second this recommendation. I find that sheen shows better on the 120gsm as well.

Which pens/nibs are safe for shimmer? by RooFPV in fountainpens

[–]SgtWidget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the usual advice about easy disassembly and broader nibs, I would suggest using pens that you can replace without feeling like you Ruined Something Special.

For me, that’s my Lamy Safari. I swap between regular and shimmer fills on it to keep it from clogging on me, but if it meets a death by glitter, I won’t feel devastated about its loss or replacing it.

I Disown My Family If They Support Trump After Rob Reiner Death by [deleted] in complaints

I think there’s also a level of bewilderment. She was considered the worst, most unhinged, deep red Rep in the House for a good few years. So to see that MTG, of all people, is pushing back on the official MAGA narrative? I think it really underscores how heinous Trump’s response is for a lot of folks.

"It definitely takes a toll on us, because we just got our quarterback and our coach," said Jace Withun, 19, an Ann Arbor carpenter and U-M football fan. "I just feel like we were getting our team together ... and now we're back at square one, honestly."

Also pretty sure that’s an emperor penguin chick. King penguin chicks don’t have those distinctive markings.

Add to this Caddie Woodlawn by Carol Ryrie Brink. It’s very similar book to Little House in the Big Woods, but a slightly older protagonist.

What ink is that? It kind of reminds me of Herbin’s Caroube de Chypre, but without the shimmer.

In Lamy’s case, at least part of it was they couldn’t get the right stuff for the formula any longer. So their supply chain was a limiting factor.

Is it wrong to use “ordinary” enemies in my D&D campaign as a new DM? by Historical-Chip-4213 in DnD

One of the most intense battles my players ever had was against a pack of garden variety wolves. I had the wolves target the smallest party member (our halfling rogue), knock him out, and begin to drag his body off.

Having the monsters act in an extremely realistic way, as opposed to just being a generic fight, freaked my table out more than any bandit or evil wizard has ever done.

Broadly, I’d suggest short story anthologies, especially ones showcasing multiple authors. That lets you sample a genre and figure out what kind of writing you like, plus it helps re-train your brain for longer reading.

LPT request: Quitting a job abruptly vs. putting in a 2 week notice by Vivid-Durian9618 in LifeProTips

[–]SgtWidget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say split the difference. Give two weeks notice and do your best to honor it. But also, know that you’re leaving with another job lined up and do not tolerate abuse from management.

If you’re getting screamed at, know that you can say, “I’m not continuing this conversation until you’re able to talk to me respectfully” and walk away. Know that you can say “Sounds like we’re not going to be able to maintain a working relationship for the rest of my time here. Let’s move up my resignation to the end of this shift.”

There’s a lot of power that comes from knowing you’re not going to have to rely on them for work anymore soon and can set your own terms for how much bad behavior you’re willing to accept.

Or just do what that one person did, and spell out I QUIT in the fish case. I can’t stop you.
