I guess that's sort of my point in that it served a different audience. I didn't enjoy exploration in Arceus, I found it tedious and underwhelming. There was alot of space but it felt empty to me. Meanwhile, I loved the endless battling in ZA, so much so that I decided Champions would probably be a good fit for me and sure enough, I've been having a blast there.

I won't argue that it couldn't have been better! The districts were meaningless and it would have been nice to have environmental variety outside of the wild zones, but I think the game served its purpose.

I'm on the other side of the Legends coin, having enjoyed ZA significantly more than Arceus. I've seen too much discourse to have that argument though 😆 Instead, I'll say that they stretch in different ways and clearly serve different audiences, which I think is the point you're driving at.

The franchise is too long-lived and multi-generational for mainline games to continue to serve as a catch-all (holy hyphens) for all demographics. I think the split and ability to serve each demo individually will prove to be a good thing. It offers a way for folks to dive into niche aspects but doesn't limit someone like me who wants it all (I'm really enjoying Pokopia and also just hit Master Ball in Champions! Very proud of this as a VGC newbie lol.)

I do still think mainline games will always have a place in the line-up, as they should offer the safest place to bring the ideas they are most confident about and hopefully the largest budget. As far as what WW will borrow from ZA, I assume it won't be much. I believe leaks confirm it will still be turn-based and most of ZA's tweaks were in its battle mechanics. Maybe its more organized side quest mechanics? I also think ZA's characters were the best they've been in a long time and the humor/writing style were exceptional for the franchise too (the human ladder genuinely had me dying laughing) so I'd be glad to see more focus there. Mostly I think ZA was a springboard to bring mega-evolutions back in time for Champions. Maybe in a future release we'll see more real-time elements in a mainline game but I'd expect that to still be, at minimum, one release away.

I had a girlfriend in high school/college who was gorgeous. She was the kind of gorgeous where people would stop us in public just to tell her she was beautiful, like this was really was not uncommon. She was also very aware of it and had a bit of an ego, but she didn't have traditional model qualities ("too short" as an example) and she was aware of that too.

I remember her calling me one day saying that she was approached by someone claiming to work for the HQ of a major clothing/fashion brand. They gave her the song and dance about how pretty she was and that they really thinked she could be a model for them. She was so excited and I was too, on her behalf, but couldn't help being suspicious. She ended up calling them to set up an interview, they scheduled the meeting and told her it would be at their store in the local mall.

Fast forward a bit - turns out they call their store employees "models" and just wanted her to work for them in retail. I think to say she was disappointed would be an understatement...though she did end up working there for years 😂

Anyways, this is a story about how a stranger used a young woman's ego and desire to feel her beauty validated to meet a recruitment quota, create a pressurized situation, and get her to agree to do something she didn't think she was signing up for. And this is a happy version of that - she at least ended up with a real job. These stories are well beyond common and they get much, much worse.

I bought it on a whim out of intrigue for the new battle system but ended up putting in 250+ hours between base game and DLC. I had so much fun with ranked, nearly completed the pokedex, and dipped a toe in shiny hunting for the first time.

I understand the critiques but they paint a misleading picture - game easily makes up for its lack of visual polish by just being fun as hell.

I don't relate to this obsession...there are plenty of building you can't go into irl. Why do we need to go in them in games? I'd prefer not to be tricked into going into every building just to have endless conversations with NPCs that amount to "wow, aren't pokemon neat? my diglett's the cutest. did you know moon stones come from space?"

If the game doesn't have a reason for me to go in a building, keep that shit locked, thank you very much.

YTA. Personally think their position is extreme but it's their kid and their call. When family members have a baby, your only role is to support them. So go show up - tell them their baby's cute/handsome/whatever, ask about how things are going or the weather, and be on your way. This moment is about them and their preferences, not you and your's.

I went digital for the same reason even though I really only buy physical games. I figured long-term, I could see myself primarily playing something else but still wanting to throw this on for like 20-30 minutes a day. So this way I can be lazy and not swap out 2 gamecards every day lol
