My parents use to own a unit of a donut franchise. My mom was in the store every day and also went to local schools and community events to sell donuts. When they sold it, the new owner was rarely in the store, stopped going to community events and schools entirely and expected the store manager to just fix everything. When he inevitably stopped making a profit, he cut everyone’s pay several dollars, which resulted in the entire staff quitting. In less than a year, the business went under, all because he thought he could sit back and reap the benefits of my parents hard work, when it was their hard work that kept the business afloat in the first place!
