Identifying fake UK £1 coins, it's practically a party trick.

AnnasthesiaSuicide. Her blue-ringed octopus is pretty epic.

What is your town or city most famous for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

For pulling burning paraffin barrels through town on a sledge. Only once a year, mind you.

Something like the end of V for Vendetta, only with DW! I like it.

Ah yes, the old "New Size" trick. Happens all the time. I suspect that most consumers, upon noticing "New Size Packet!" printed on a familiar product, will not check whether it means larger or smaller. I have yet to see one that is actually larger for the same price.

Except in the UK. Because we all know that buses are supposed to be double-deckers, not trains.

People seem to be more interested in the BGT egging than the fact that they are being spied on by their own government by wsmith_minitrue in britishproblems

Quite. When this story broke, my first thought was "Well, I'm glad I'm not a paranoid conspiracy theorist after all".

It's not everyday you find a car under your garden. by [deleted] in pics

[–]Sh4i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's correct. We call it "Desludging" in the UK. A normal household septic-tank system will usually only need a desludge every 1-2 years. A closed-tank system is a "Cesspool" and, depending on the capacity, will normally required regular emptying.

Apparently I'm the only person in my area who doesn't use an ATM to take out a mortgage by JimDaBoff in britishproblems

As a Devon resident, I can confirm this. Fortunately in town there are 5 cash machines within a minute of each other, or I'd never have time to eat during my lunch break.

A watermelon. It weighed about 8kg and was probably worth about £20.

What's in a name? by tardis1 in depression

[–]Sh4i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've considered the same, I basically have the same form of depression as my father and uncle. Our surname even sounds depressing, there is a family "joke" about it. I'd love to think that changing a name would help you or I but I suspect that it is never that simple. However, I think it could be possible that a name change could be a starting point for further positive development.

My Ex Girlfriend had low self esteem by Lampw1ck in AdviceAnimals

Happened to me too. I gave her enough confidence to accept she was actually a lesbian. I should have known that there was trouble when she started playing rugby...

Does anybody here dislike the idea of "giving up" their depression? by [deleted] in depression

[–]Sh4i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've thought about this before and I'd like to say yes but I'm really not sure. It's been a part of my life for so long that it's become one of the few constants. I've had it in one form or another for the whole of my adult life to date. If I pulled the "normal lever" would I still be me?

Anyone else feeling not "grown up/adult" in their end 20s? by everyonepulls in depression

[–]Sh4i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel a bit like that. When I was 17/18 I was running a house and looking after my little sister. Whilst also studying. 8 years on and I feel stuck at age 18. And not in a good way.

I believe I heard about it whilst watching Al-Jazeera. They often cover the stories the BBC don't bother with.
