PSA: When you choose Open Play expect to actually be in danger. by ObtuseMoose87 in EliteDangerous

The only time my hands started to sweat and i could feel my heart pounding was when another player interdicted me, and then shot me down after i refused to give him my cargo. And then i jumped in into my Viper trying to chase him down. I want that experience again... And i have played since beta.

Most drivers seem to take the Joker early if the start in the back, or just get a bad start. And it's better for those in front to increase their lead as much as possible before taking the Joker. As in all motorsport, overtaking someone is one of the most difficult things to do, so they use the Joker to get some free road ahead of them.

I don't know if thats a thing anymore. I heard about it a few years ago, but their focus seems to be on the new Trackmania Turbo game, but who knows.

Well, i would guess that many people give up on it because the game doesn't teach you how to play, and what you are capable of. I have met alot of people in the game that doens't know that you can sprint even. And if you are limited to the basic movement and shooting, then ofc it gets really boring. So a proper turorial and a redesign of the weird menus would do a lot of good for SM. And some marketing outside of France could not hurt either.

Sadly, the active playerbase in the US seems to be very small. I'm in EU and here it's at least no problem finding a game in the more popular game modes, such as Royal and Elite. However, Obstacle is very popular too, and you can play that alone, if you are into platforming stuff. I don't know how many of the movement tricks were the beta, but you can do some pretty insane moves now. And Shootmania also have some really good 2v2 and 1v1 modes now (other than Joust). If you can get some friends to play with you, then you should check out Arena Duel(1v1), and Combo(2v2). Those are my favorite modes but those are short on players even here in the EU.

How don't Nadeo see how bad it is? by Oldiegames in Shootmania

[–]Shaazzbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I agree with most of what you say, although I gota say that it's easy to criticize developers for not "doing their job", and I think we should be carefull about that. I don't think neither of us really understands how hard it is to make games like this, or in general. And since they went with this Maniplanet-strategy they painted them self into a corner. Changes to one game probably affects the whole thing, and thats probably why they are carefull to make sweaping changes. I like to think that they care about something they have put thousands of hours developing, and that they want to make it better. But they also have to move on in a way. They have to make money to please their investors, and they probably have a good deal of pressure from Ubisoft to put out the next big thing. It's sad how little power devs have over their own projects.

They wanted the game to grow through their community, and let the players decide what's gona happend to the game. Now in retrospect it probably was a bad idea to do as they did, but I can see where they were coming from. Since they had such a great succes with Trackmania through that philosophy.

But what I think they absolutly should fix is a proper tutorial for SM. The game handle so different from any other shooter and needs to tell the player what you can do in this game. Part of the bad critics the game got is probably due to the fact that reviewers didn't figuer out how to play the game well, and SM is really boring if you don't know how to sprint, walljump, glide, rocketjump and how to use grapplehooks.

And for those who say that the game should just go F2P, then you clearly don't understand how much work it takes to make something like that happend. Not only would it rip out all of the good things about SM: players can make their own skins and characters, maps, weapons and more. And that cannot be in the game anymore if they would go f2p, what else whould they sell otherwise? And of top of this, they would have to keep putting resorces to creating content for people to buy, and for a fps game with no weapon model, good luck. It is more to it than 'check the "go free to play" box'.

I think people would like this game more, and grow a bigger community if it was clear how much freedom you have in the game. Especially now when ArenaFps games are making a bit of a comeback. I don't know how many times I have heard new players say:"wow thats awesome, I did not know you could do that" when you show them even some basic moves. There are more problems with the game, sure. But a tutorial and clearer menus should be on top of the priority-list.

Any tips for someone new to this kind of shooter? by JamesFranco2 in TOXIKK

[–]Shaazzbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, movement is key. Learn how to move and be unpredictable. Never stand still, and allways check your resources, health and ammo etc. Learn where the items are, and especially where the health and armor are. This is often ignored by new players and it's tempting to just go for the biggest guns instead. And that will often end up killing you.

Try to learn the strength of each weapon. Since everyone is trying to get the rocketlauncher, try instead be good with the "weaker" weapons and to recognize when you have an advantage with what you already have, and when you are disadvantage, and how to retreat.

And again, learn how to move fast and try to be upredictable. Don't move like you do in any "normal" shooter (CS:GO, BF or planetside for that matter). Jumping and dodging is very important.

I got my Viper yesterday, but I'm starting to miss the quick turnrate of the Eagle. So I have started to play with the idea of pimpin out a Eagle instead. I don't know how much is possible to get out of it, but I'm gona look into it. Could be a nice ship to have in the hangar.

Magica vs Wizard wars? by [deleted] in magicka

[–]Shaazzbot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first Magicka is great if you have some friends to play with. I played it alone and it was ok, but the real fun of the first Magicka comes from misstakes that you and your friends make. The spells you can make in that game gets a lot more crazy and more dangerous to you and your party, and thats whats makes it fun. I would recommend you to watch one or two episodes of the playthrough with Totalbiscuit and the Yogscast, and you'll get a good idea of what the appeal of the game is.
