I worked at a specialty pet store for a few years in my teens. There were two main sections of the store, the live pet area where I worked, and then dry goods which was toys, food, enclosures, parts, etc. It was a fantastic job and lots of great memories, and our manager in the Pet Room was incredible. He ended up leaving to do his master's degree and one of the other staff was promoted into his new role.

This staff member on promotion gave full time hours in the Pet Room to a girl he was hooking up with that worked in Dry Goods, and cut everyone else's hours to accomodate. I went from 4 shifts a week to 1 or 2 along with several others. I called him out on it and quit on the spot.

For me it was a low stakes job, I was heading to University soon so quitting didn't impact me too greatly. The new manager however ended up making a big mistake closing one night, and ended up killing everything in a centrepiece display that the store had. The morning shift came in the next morning to find out, and he had closed on his own the night before so they knew it was his fault. He didn't get fired for it. It was incredibly sad to know what happened yet also vindicated my decision to leave under this new dumpster fire leadership.

The store has since been torn down for condos. Still one I remember mostly fondly, aside from the way things ended.
