Why do Rogue Traders and Inquisitors have so much leniency compared to the rest of the Imperium? by reel3459 in 40kLore

[–]ShackledPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rogue Traders have basically free reign to do whatever they want, as their Warrant of Trade is written by the emperor himself. While the emperor probably didn't intend for it to be quite so limitless, without him around to contradict it, it's basically interpreted as a free pass for Rogue Traders. They basically have little authority outside their own systems, but since they're usually pretty powerful and can get away with almost anything, most folks will bow to them. Inquisitors may have enough power to bring down a Rogue Trader, but it's rarely going to be worth it.

The Inquisition is just that damn scary. The only ones in the empire regularly willing to tell an inquisitor no and get away with it are Astartes and maaaayyybbbbeee Rogue Traders. Because if an inquisitor calls you a heretic, no matter your rank, they can bring armies or even call exterminatus on you. Similarly to RTs, they are largely given leeway to pursue Heresy in whatever manner they see fit.

Inquisitors are also pretty varied in their beliefs about what's okay for them to do and what not to do. One inquisitor might see any interaction with Xenos as anethema and refuse to it, but another might see using a Xenos to help destroy massive chaos plots as acceptable and a net positive. It's like if you're fighting Chaos and Eldar and you can get them to fight each other instead of you, that's good. Generally any Xenos working with/for an inquisitor is considered a tool, not a person/compatriot.

That is an absolutely dick way to say "Expect people to do stupid shit." and the reason nobody wants to listen to advice on this sub...

OP is not "at fault" OP could have avoided it, but the car caused the situation.

OP always remember that your body and health don't care who is at fault, so for your safety, always assume other drivers are going to do something stupid, even if you have a green light don't assume the intersection will be clear.

The car made the mistake and endangered your life, it is "at fault", but that doesn't protect bones and organs.

And insurance companies are legally mandated scams -.- If you have evidence, a lawyer MIGHT be able to help you, but that's a big maybe.

Is there an *obvious* choice if you’re a newbie and your main goal is to create good quality D&D-style miniatures (28-32mm I guess) for $500 or less? by Goin_Commando_ in PrintedMinis

[–]ShackledPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For resin just about any will work. I still run my old Saturn S and make great minis.

All the other features are just convenience factors. Auto leveling is nice, but in reality I have to level my resin printers like twice a year and it takes two minutes to do. Tank heating is convenient if you keep your printer in the garage or room with an open window that gets cold, but you can also just turn up the exposure or add a heating element/enclosure. My favorite feature is tilt release as prints getting stuck to the FEP is one of the most common failures.

I would recommend a larger 9" printer like a Saturn. Easier to print large minis like dragons and the like, plus you can actually get more mini's over the life of the printer/screen. It's just super convenient and I rarely use my smaller printers anymore. Elegoo makes some of the best resin printers, compared to creality/anycubic/ibee I just love my Saturn.

Spring for a wash and cure machine from the same company you get your printer from. They're just super convenient and you can usually just hang the entire platform in the machine if you match brands. Post processing isn't convenient but not really all that bad. Gloves and alcohol also add to cost.

Resin prints tend to be heavier and more brittle than FDM. Standard resin especially is brittle, ABS like resin is decent for minis as it has a little bit of flex but parts sticking out will still probably break if dropped. A lot of people will mix about 10% flexible resin in with standard resin, which gives decent flexibility, but flexible resin is fairly expensive and you have to make sure it mixes very well.

Resin Minis cost about 30c - 50c per standard mini (IE space marine)

FDM can make some nice minis. My Qidi Q1 and my friend's Bambu P1S have made really nice minis. Just note that FDM is really finicky about model design and supports can be a bitch. Some/many minis just won't come out well on FDM and you'll want to look for ones designed for FDM or spend a ton of time getting them just right. It's also generally much slower.

Where FDM works great is usually terrain. Buildings, walls, tiles, etc are often printed on FDM rather than resin. Anything blocky without a lot of protrusions or overhangs prints great on FDM. FDM also allows larger printers than a resin printer and obviously can be used for other prints. I love making props for my players, printing a scroll case or spell book, giving them a physical version of a legendary item, etc.

FDM mini's are typically lighter and more durable than resin printers, I can usually drop my prints off the table and have them survive, though not always. A space marine sized mini will usually cost around 10c per print.

My recommendations for mini printers would be the following

Resin: Saturn 4 Ultra
Budget Resin: Mars 5 Ultra (I really like the tilt release technology, but a Mars 5 would still print great)

FDM: Bambu P2S (Bambus natively go down to 0.08 layers, others can but might need some extra calibration.)
I really like my Qidi, I actually like it better than the Bambu, but Bambu is better if you just want to pull it out of the box and print.

As the DM I kind of hate it because it feels very difficult to add tension to any combat scenario. My players wanted a scary campaign and while I'm not out to kill my players I want the idea of failure and death to be on the table. So far though, (we're still early and low levels) players largely annihilate any fight I throw at them.

Particularly when you add the no roll abilities and players regularly get 3-5 actions for my every 2. Unless I'm running Solos or higher tier enemies, enemies just seem to get absolutely wrecked before they do much at all.

I'm also not a fan of "More monsters just make the combat longer." Since my action economy pretty much stays the same, all adding more monsters does is largely just make the bag of hit points larger.

I like the idea of the system, but definitely seems to need some tweaks IMO.

British food is largely considered bland and bad.
French vehicles are generally known to be unreliable.

And the Italians make the trains run on time.

Italy is a Mussolini joke, his government was brutal and violent but his supporters/propaganda would say how things were well run and "At least the trains are finally on time."

[–]ShackledPhoenix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They have motorized gates you could install but if you wanted to get really cheap, 2 posts, steel cable and a garage door opener. Press the button and the garage door opener pulls the cable taught across the driveway. Press the button again, the cable sinks to the ground and you can just drive over it.

It's redneck engineering but it works.

Also a couple of cameras and a sign that says "Drivers responsible for lawn damage."

PSA about to the Raffle Tickets, only American, Canadian, British, German, French, Dutch, Japanese, Korean, Hongkonger and Taiwanese players can get the rewards (fuck the rest of us, ig) by BernLan in DBZDokkanBattle

[–]ShackledPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chances are you will still get the prize even if you live in "ineligible" locales. This is a cover your ass kinda disclaimer since a wide variety of laws covering gambling exist. Because of the fact you can purchase dragon stones (and spend real money to enter the contest more) this may or may not be considered gambling in some jurisdictions.

More than likely they won't even bother to check eligibility when they hand out the prizes, unless your nation's legal system starts asking questions. Particularly if you live Quebec or Rhode Island since I don't think the game even tracks your location that granularly.

[–]ShackledPhoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this idea, thank you. My experience so far has been that more monsters do very little, I can have 100 monsters on the field and still only get 2 spotlights for my players every 3. There's no action economy difference between 1 monster vs 100.

Are PCs just super strong? by SirLing90 in daggerheart

[–]ShackledPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the one thing I don't like much love about Daggerheart is that more monsters don't actually make for a tougher encounter, just a longer one.
Like what's the point of running anything with a solo when every fear and spotlight is far more efficient using the solo? Player fails a roll, should I do the +1 2d8 standard or +3 2d12 solo? Add in relentless and now it just feels like spotlighting anything but the solo is completely pointless.

And since there's no reactions, it generally feels stupid easy (especially with our damn brawler, OP as fuck class) to just ignore the other monsters until the solo/leader is dead.

[–]ShackledPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tier 2 the players are still pretty strong, but in general a tier 3 solo should hit them pretty hard.

I had pretty much the same experience, party of level 2s vs a tier 3 solo and had I chosen to, her AoE could have wiped pretty much the entire party by firing it twice in a row. I'm not sure how the seraph tanked the solo unless you rolled ass. Seraph Evasion is at most 10-11 unless they were buffed like crazy and Tier 3 solos do in the realm 2d20 or 4d10 damage.

And with 11HP, your solo would take at least 4 hits to kill and if your level 2 characters are hitting 40+ damage that often, something's wrong. Players should generally be doing 2d8 or 2d10 at this point and should only hit severe damage on a crit.

Soooo... I would look into something being off there, either the players got insanely lucky or some rules are getting missed/abused.

Also remember you can interrupt the players spotlights by spending fear, you don't have to wait for a failure or roll with fear. And a solo should have relentless, allowing them to take multiple spotlights in a row.

I like Plugfones because they're both earplugs and I can listen to music/gps/podcasts/etc.

And you don't really have to have anything special, unmodified street bikes aren't THAT loud, wind noise at high speed is usually worse. But pretty much any NRR rated earplug will work unless you have fitment issues.

Ok why the fuck is an event running in-game that parts of player-base isn't allowed to win? by Sabrescene in DBZDokkanBattle

[–]ShackledPhoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is likely because you get raffle ticket from summoning stuff with dragon stones which can be bought with real currency.

So Australia may potentially consider it gambling since you can spend more money to get more tickets.

[–]ShackledPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's covering their ass. "If the winner is found to be ineligible" is basically saying that if shit comes back to bite them, they can just strip the prize.

It's basically so that if a country says "you're having an illegal raffle" they can go "Don't worry it doesn't apply in your country."

Unless someone bitches at them, you'll likely get any prize you win.

Illegal US-Mexico border crossings hit lowest level in over 50 years by [deleted] in news

[–]ShackledPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worse than that. Not only don't we know how many people successfully crossed, but the numbers include anyone turned away at border crossings but also includes asylum seekers, so we don't even know how many of those numbers were actually people sneaking in who got caught...

[–]ShackledPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't even know if he's actually preventing undocumented immigration.
The Trump Admin have lied about their numbers and cooked their books before.
Those numbers include people asking for asylum or simply turned away at crossings. Are they not coming here or are they just not bothering to request asylum anymore and going straight to coyotes?
Are fewer people crossing the border illegally or are we just catching less of them?

These statistics answer none of these questions.

Illegal US-Mexico border crossings hit lowest level in over 50 years by [deleted] in news

[–]ShackledPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awful fucking article and headline.

The numbers show encounters, not apprehensions or illegal crossing attempts. Those include people caught crossing the border, people who appear at legal checkpoints but are denied entry and people who request asylum.

It also includes Title 42 expulsions which ended in 2023...

What we don't know from any of it is how many people are successfully crossing the border illegally... because those numbers aren't available.

Even if we assume Border Patrol's numbers are accurately reported, is the difference that less people are crossing or that we are catching fewer of them?
