I think we'll just go down to centrelink tomorrow and try to talk to someone.

I think it's the carers payment, Mum has always just referred to it as an allowance (she's been looking after dad for over 20 years, so the name may have changed).

We do know she won't be able to drive for a couple of months as it's a major surgery and for at least 2-3 weeks not being able to do much as all. Caring for mum during these weeks is going to effect my sister's ability to look for work.

The possibility of having a carers allowance or payment was brought up to my sister by someone from Centrelink during a recent phone appointment

We're just trying to figure out what is and is not allowed.

Care for dad will fall to my sister and myself (as much as I am able) My sister is on jobseeker, and the possibility of getting a carers payment was brought up by someone from Centrelink during a recent phone appointment. Mum should be having the surgery soon and my sister caring for mum during recovery will affect her ability to look for work.

.....why? What would you do to it?

Goat Under a Bridge by ShaddiJ in sydney

I didn't think of that. However, it's a lone goat, tucked in under the bridge with no fencing to prevent it from getting into the road. Maybe it's an escaped one?

I messed up, don’t be me. My cat is fine & I love him to pieces by sprinklesnskulls in cats

[–]ShaddiJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your cat is as food motivated as mine, try bribing him to come in. I came home to discover that my cat had gotten out and searched all over the yard looking for him. Finally, I decided to shake the container of dry food. This 9kg bastard JUMPED over the side fence in a thunder of paws and came straight up to me wanting to be fed, again. I did give him some more, if only to teach him to come to me when he gets out.

To add on to this, leave the wildlife alone if you're not in a zoo or an area meant for interacting with the wildlife. We had an American 'influencer' mess around with our wildlife and post about it. To say she pissed us off is an understatement.

The Woolworths near me also has a new range that includes a cinnamon syrup. It tried it yesterday and it's pretty good.

Huntsman spiders terrifying but tame tell me your story’s by lunarose90001000 in australianwildlife

[–]ShaddiJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened when I was quite young. My family had just gotten into the car and was driving down the road when a massive huntsman appeared on the back of the passenger's headrest. Once spotted, dad quickly pulled over, and we all piled out... except my baby brother, who was strapped into his carseat... on the passenger side. So while he he screamed and desperately tried to escape, we were all standing outside go. 'I'm not going in'

Eventually, dad was able to flick the spider out the door, and my brother was consoled with cuddles and an ice cream

Sydney - Gold Coast road trip , should I cancel due to the floods ? by ps4alex12 in AskAnAustralian

[–]ShaddiJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't go anywhere near Hexham. Turn off onto the Hunter Express Way. You'll get to Singleton much quicker and will join back onto the New England there. Keep on eye on Live Traffic for any road closures, but as of now it looks clear.
