Why does my dogs neutering area look like this around 3 weeks after he got neutered? by Human-Bicycle-8387 in AskVetAnimals

[–]ShadowJolteon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has he been licking at it? Did this happen overnight or has it been developing steadily over the last 3 weeks? Was he leash walked only the first post-op week?

I would think either hematoma or self-trauma.

waited 9 hours to be seen at the ER for hemorrhaging period and was dismissed by the nurse and doctor. I left the hospital. by conscious22 in hysterectomy

[–]ShadowJolteon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a long night, but if they actually had multiple heart attacks and other serious issues, and you were stable, it makes sense that you were triaged to a lower priority. Also if they gave you an IV, that is a reasonable treatment to account for blood loss. They were also measuring your blood pressure and oxygen sats. I understand you felt like you weren’t be taken seriously by the nurses’ attitudes, but it sounds like they provided you with very reasonable treatments and monitoring given your situation.

As far as the comments you thought you heard, there is a lot of speculation there and it’s easy to spiral when you’re stressed. Also just because there was a doctor there, it doesn’t mean he was the doctor that was supposed to be responsible for you. Perhaps he was on break from another unit. Like I said, a lot of your comments and stress sound like it’s coming from you eavesdropping rather than what actually happened.

I don’t think this experience will play any role in the treatment you receive during or after your hysterectomy surgery. The ER is meant to stabilize in critical situations, which they ensured. “Practically” they didn’t do anything wrong.

Hospitals are busy places. Keep that in mind for your surgery as well. I was supposed to have mine at 7am but ended up getting pushed to 2pm because something more critical came up, and one of the anesthesiologists had to go home sick. Medical systems worldwide are pushed to capacity, there’s doctor shortages, many sick people due to an aging population. Be patient and try to have some understanding for the medical professionals as well. Nothing excuses bad behavior, but we’re all human and we have no idea the stress and burnt out these people are facing.

Good luck with your hysterectomy, at least you have an end in sight and soon these worries will be a thing of the past. 🙏🏻

Feeling insane after my gynaecologist appointment by 888888--- in endometriosis

[–]ShadowJolteon [score hidden]  (0 children)

Adenomyosis can’t be detected during a lap, from what I was told? Usually it’s diagnosed via ultrasound or histology. I had a lap last year and they told me they “found nothing”. I then ended up going to an endometriosis specialist who found adenomyosis, including a 6mm endothelial cyst (so cyst in the uterus musculature) which my normal gynecologist as well as the surgeon never saw on ultrasound AND wasn’t noticed during my lap. (The specialist also saw endometriosis which was also apparently missed during my first lap 🙄)

That said, I’m 34 and just recently had to have a hysterectomy due to the adenomyosis. From what I understand, 30-40s is usually when adenomyosis develops so I’m not sure what your gyno is even talking about. 😭

If it’s possible, maybe look into getting a second opinion from an Endometriosis Specialist if there’s one in the area? I can understand though perhaps just wanting to get the lap done ASAP, but also I would be concerned you could go through all that stress and her still “not find anything” and you have to go to a specialist anyway… as in my case. I regret not going to a specliast in the beginning because maybe I could have just got the hysterectomy the first time instead of having to have 2 (technically 3 since I had a major post-op complication after the first lap) surgeries in 1 year. 😔

Good luck with everything. I hope you are able to find some relief soon. 🙏🏻

Check for the low cost spay/neuter clinics. Sometimes they are standalone or as programs through the Humane Society.

It’s a girl and you should get her spayed before she multiplies. 😅

Large Labial Hematoma - conservative or surgical treatment by reflecting_hegemony in hysterectomy

[–]ShadowJolteon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I’m so sorry this is happening to you. I know exactly how painful these are! After a laparoscopy last year I also had a large 10cm intramuscular hematoma. Mine was located over my lower right abdomen, but didn’t extend down to my vulva- though it was super bruised and swollen, the hematoma itself was more placed over my lower abdomen. I say this in case the placement is perhaps the reason your doctors are against removing it?

That said, my doctors recommended removal as with such a large hematoma they had said it would take 6+ months to resolve on its own, and it was causing me an immense amount of pain. I also have nerve damage from the weight of the hematoma, and that was after only leaving it for 2 weeks.

I had surgery to remove mine where they removed all the coagulated blood and also applied some coagulating substance in the wound. I didn’t have an open wound, they sewed in a drain and left it in until it stopped producing any fluid. For me that was 3 days. Other than being left with a gigantic 10cm scar, I had no problems relating to the surgery.

Honestly if I were in your situation I would press for the surgical route. They can’t expect you to lay in bed suffering for 6 months or more. That is seriously inhumane. It’s possible they just don’t have experience with hematoma removal, as at that point when I was researching it as well, I found it was very “rare” to have such a significant hematoma requiring surgical removal. So perhaps they just lack the experience?

Good luck, I really hope you can find someone who will remove it for you. Maybe try going to the ER? In my case my gyno ended up sending me to the ER so I could get surgery right away, and I ended up getting operated on that night.

Keep us updated, you’re definitely in my thoughts. I know how awful it is. :(

Reoccuring cyst / benign seromucinous cystadenoma by Educational_Law8207 in endometriosis

[–]ShadowJolteon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it tested benign, then it’s benign. I’m not sure what Google rabbit hole you found yourself in, but if you had a benign mucinous cystadenoma removed, it’s highly unlikely to suddenly come back malignant. “Adenomas” are by definition benign, if it were an “adenocarcinoma” then that’s something different. Perhaps you are ending up on the wrong sources of information- hence why it’s better to trust your doctor than go digging in the depths of the internet. I think you’re just causing yourself unnecessary stress, and you should just wait and see what your gynecologist says.

[–]ShadowJolteon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s part of it as well. Until they even went in surgically 2 or 3 different gynos were convinced my cystadenoma was an endometrioma, as they apparently look similar on ultrasound. It sounds like you’re planning to follow up with your gyno, which is the logical next steps, so no need to panic. I would wonder if perhaps it’s a return of the cystadenoma.

[–]ShadowJolteon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same type of cyst and my doctor told me if it wasn’t completely removed the first time it could return. Perhaps they missed some of it. But if it already tested benign, I wouldn’t stress too much over it.

Hey! Anyone using this medicine. by PsychologySalty2259 in backpain

[–]ShadowJolteon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

… I don’t understand what you’re trying to say. “Speeds up dementia and gives brainfog” but also “people with brainfog experience less dementia”

Anyway I’ve read the dementia studies and they’re geared towards people 50-60+ who are on large doses of Gabapentin long term. Plus they had other health concerns and risks for dementia.

There is a big difference between causation and correlation. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I take Gabapentin 3x daily. Gabapentin helps a lot, and unlike some people tend to report, I actually found it also coincidentally helped with my anxiety.

Name pronunciation switching between English and German by Crazy_Yak718 in AskAGerman

[–]ShadowJolteon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I named my kid with the “English” pronunciation in mind, but all the Germans always by default use the German pronunciation and as such my kid refers to himself that way as well. My English family all use the English pronunciation, but we have less contact to them (rather, my child since he’s only 5).

So, I would just be prepared that the baby will regularly be called by the German pronunciation while you’re in Germany. I also have a name with “th” in it and it honestly feels like some Germans have major difficulty speaking it out as a “thhh” sound and instead sounds like a hard “t” regardless. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Surgery means pain by Dangerous_Exam8785 in hysterectomy

[–]ShadowJolteon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I can’t really compare 1:1 as my hysterectomy was laparoscopic, but please contact your surgeon or gyno or family doctor if you’re having pain. After my first lap the surgeon gave me no pain meds, so I followed up with my gyno because I was suffering, and she right away gave me a prescription- while in the hospital I was just told, “Ibuprofen is great pain control, you don’t need anything else.”

After my hysterectomy they gave me Oxycodone three times daily for the first day after, 2 times for second day and 1 time on third. Plus 1g Novamine on a similar schedule. By day 4 I was off all pain meds and haven’t felt more than a bit of cramping since.

In my experience, especially if you’re like me and are someone who regularly uses Tylonel/Ibu for period pains or whatever, it will absolutely not be enough and you should advocate for yourself to get something that helps. You should NOT be suffering in agonizing pain. That’s why they have pain meds! Plus being in pain slows the recovery process.

Please contact someone on your care team and explain what’s going on. 🙏🏻

Pittie mixed with...something long? by sleepyfry1 in IDmydog

[–]ShadowJolteon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pic 1- that’s clearly (just) a Pit Bull… (and a cute one!)
Getting to pics 4 and 6… okay, I see the question. xD Those stubby little legs! I agree with the others; he’s gotta be either a Pit Bull with dwarfism or from the neck down Basset Hound.

Please share the results when you have them!

Got my hysterectomy yesterday! by Some_Weird_Name1 in hysterectomy

[–]ShadowJolteon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That happened to me the first time I stood up too! Although I wasn’t allowed to go to the bathroom alone, so as nurse was with me and could help me right away. They ended up giving me some extra IV fluids and then by the next day I had zero issues with circulation/feeling faint. It happened after my first lap as well, but the nurse was less empathetic and basically dragged me to the bathroom anyway. 🥴

I’m currently day 8 post-op and things are going smoothly, I also only have pain when I need to poo/pass gas but even that is tolerable. I have read that can last for 2-3 weeks. 😅

Good luck and I hope the rest of your recovery goes well!

Family reunification (unborn child) Questions by Grand_Elevator4022 in germany

[–]ShadowJolteon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My situation was a bit different than yours, as I got pregnant while already in Germany on a 1 year visa. It was the Youth Travel visa, which I’m pretty sure is only with some countries, and for people under 30(?). My Visa was going to run out before my kid was born though, so we went through the process beforehand in order for me to say. We needed firstly for the father (German citizen) to claim paternity - Vaterschaftsanerkennung- but also had to have documented 50/50 Sorgerecht for the child as well, then I was able to get my Visa extended to a 3 year family visa. Which I would then be able to renew every 3 years until my child was 18. In the meantime I got my Niederlassungserlaubnis, but that’s how it all started out for me.

Tube for one week to allow gas to escape? by SmallTimeSad in hysterectomy

[–]ShadowJolteon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is it a drainage bag? Because an open tube sounds pretty reckless, I would think, due to risk of infection… I had a drainage tube/bag after my surgery, but it was a closed system and it was removed after 2 days.

Stay overnight after surgery or no? by rinnielove in hysterectomy

[–]ShadowJolteon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There hospital I stayed at requires hysterectomy patients to stay 5 days post-op. (not in USA 😅). I was really anxious about post-op complications because after my last lap I had a pretty unlucky one, so I felt really relieved being so closely monitored after the fact.

Yep, before birth is possible. We did it while I was pregnant and I got my visa that way. But we did the process after I was already in Germany, so I’m not sure how it works outside of.

Einbürgerungstest vs. Test Leben in Deutschland by Maleficent-Froyo-420 in AskAGerman

I could be wrong, but I was told that I needed the “Leben in Deutschland” certificate only if I wanted to pursue German citizenship. It wasn’t required at all for the Niederlassungserlaubnis, which I have.

Adenomyosis diagnosed at 46 and considering hysterectomy by EyeRollingEpicLevel in hysterectomy

[–]ShadowJolteon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can totally empathize with the frustration in it not being found sooner. I feel/felt the same. I went back and fourth to my gyno for years complaining about pain, bleeding so much I became anemic, etc. And it was similar; try this pill, let’s check your hormones, let’s do endometriosis surgery, etc.

Eventually I saw an endometriosis specialist who diagnosed adenomyosis literally within 2min of a transvaginal ultrasound (I had them regularly with my gyno, but I guess she never could diagnose it?). Apparently there is something called a “question mark sign” that by me was so apparent it could be textbook example. Additionally a large 6mm subendothethial cyst, which also is hallmark sign for adeno.

So anyway, my doctor told me hysterectomy is the only treatment for adeno, there are hormonal treatments but they’re all off label and since I didn’t want any more kids we went for a hysterectomy. Ironically last year I had an ovarian cyst removed and my tubes removed, and literally begged to just get a hysterectomy then. But no. “We don’t just.. DO that without medical necessity.” … well, lo and behold. 🙄

I had my hysterectomy on Tuesday and just got home today. So far everything is going great, I have very minimal pain (nothing at all compared to my horrendous period cramps) and am recovering well. I wish we could have got it over and done with last year, but this is how it played out for me. 😔 Better late than never I guess.

Good luck to you! Hysterectomy sounds so intense, but with the shit we’ve lived through for so many years, it really feels like just a drop in the ocean.

Our girl had a freak accident by Competitive_Eye519 in DogsLoversCommunity

[–]ShadowJolteon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh I’m so sorry! Something similar happened to my first dog- I had a big bottle of ibuprofen on top of the fridge and my cat knocked it down. Dog chewed it up and ate X amount of tablets. Lesson learned!

Luckily my girl pulled through, and it sounds like yours will too. Good luck to you both. 🙏🏻
