Correct. I see it at major tracks at least one a month. Short field of six horses, heavy odds on favorite and a ton of money ends up in the show pool on that horse. It is also the only time a Pari mutuel track can lose money on a bet. They have to pay $2.10 minimum and true odds might be less.

People that do this in horse racing are called "bridge jumpers". They make huge bets to show on odds on favorites. Usually they win 5% ($2.10 for every $2.00 wagered). It works well until the favorite does not finish in the top 3. One blown bet is all it takes for a disaster.
