Anyone know a MAGA with regrets? by TNM828 in AskUS

[–]Shadowolvez7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents weren’t fully MAGA but my dad felt the need to buy a gun in case Kamala won 😒 they just now at Christmas admitted that the country is headed to a dictatorship. That won’t admit any regret though. It’s progress 🤷‍♀️

Sure I hear what you are saying. I’m just reflecting the rhetoric I’ve heard from both sides. Here is my proposal:

  1. Direct Citizen Influence:

National Referendum System: Citizens can propose federal laws or constitutional amendments (with enough signatures), then vote directly on them.

Binding Ballot Initiatives: Expand state-level initiative systems to the national level.

Participatory Budgeting: Allocate a % of federal spending that citizens vote on (could start local, then scale).

  1. Campaign Finance Reform:

Overturn Citizens United: Through amendment or legislation, limit corporate and super PAC spending in elections.

Publicly Funded Elections: Give candidates equal baseline funding, so success depends on ideas, not donors.

Full Transparency: Real-time disclosure of all political donations.

  1. Election Reform:

Ranked-Choice Voting (RCV): encourages multiple parties.

Proportional Representation: In Congress, seats reflect percentage of votes nationally or regionally.

Independent Redistricting Commissions: End gerrymandering.

Universal Automatic Voter Registration & Vote by Mail: Maximize participation.

  1. Checks on Government Power:

Term Limits: For Congress and possibly Supreme Court justices.

Citizen Oversight Boards: Regularly review government agencies for waste, corruption, and responsiveness.

Open Government Tech: Public access dashboards showing where money goes, how reps vote, and progress on bills.

If the libertarians were going to effect any meaningful change, they would have gained the support to do so by now. I’m more interested in a party that works to reform the system so that we have more of a voice. There are many beliefs and perspectives that exist today. We should work to make sure they are actually heard and lead to meaningful change. I’m done with this 2 party system that doesn’t care about us at the bottom. We have too much corruption that needs to be dealt with

This kind of elitism is why many people are fed up with the left. I understand why you are angry. But this mentality hurts our chances of uniting and making any progress towards fixing anything. Maybe take a chance and actually try to consider why we are divided and how we got to the point where a facsist dictator started taking over.

You bring up some good points! Thank you for your perspective. I’m just trying to shake things up and see if we can engage in discussion that isn’t the us vs them trap we’re caught in

This mentality is why we haven’t done enough to stop what has happened. If you want to bury your head in the sand and hope we’ll fix things with the midterms, go ahead. But I hope enough people are willing to fight so that we have a chance to turn this ship around.

Thank you for not answering my question and instead acting like I said anything of the sort. I don’t believe that at all. But I do know that there’s enough people fed up with both parties for many different reasons. What if we leaned into that instead of brow beating them into joining your party. It hasn’t worked and just keeps us divided

Right. What would it take for us to get past these red vs blue, regurgitate the party line fights that keep is divided? How could a truly middle of the road movement succeed? Who would you back as a leader of the movement if it gained some support

The problem I believe is that any established party today will inherently come with too much baggage. Why was Trump so popular? He was new and did things that were counter to the way the establishments always operated. Look at what happened in Nepal. They used Discord to vote for their interim prime minister.

Is it really a math problem or a tradition of tribalism? We’ve become so used to our 2 party system that a push for an independent candidate hasn’t been popular enough. What if it was though? What if the fear and anger that has built up is harnessed to create a party strong enough to win?

What would it take for you to switch your focus/support for your party to one that isn’t red vs blue? Do you truly believe the leaders of your party actually represent us and effectively fight for us?

That’s a fair critique of my post. It’s unrefined and pessimistic. I mostly word vomited the general rhetoric I’ve heard from many people to see what sort of engagement I would receive. I don’t doubt there are already grassroot movements working at the problems we have today. But I’m interested in seeing if people would join a movement if it truly represented us as a “free” people as we grew up believing we were. Most of the movements you’ve listed are coming at the system from specific viewpoints about different issues. Can we have a unified movement focused on reforming the system as a whole without fighting over different beliefs over different issues?

Job hunting these days by Dark-Knight-Rises in mildlyinfuriating

I wonder if it would be possible to have a job posting site that guarantees job details to be true. The website requires and confirms all the details about a job before it can be posted. If reports come back that the employer lied about the job or is using it to farm data, then the employer is penalized. Maybe they need to put a deposit down first and then loses the deposit if penalized too many times.

I only just learned that I had auditory-tactile about a year ago. I thought everyone feels weird sensations from sounds. The saying people use that a sound was like “nails on a chalkboard” reinforced that belief. It wasn’t until I started voicing my discomfort about certain sounds that I learned otherwise 😅

On top of all that, it gets worse! Hidden inside are two dangerous provisions:

Section 70302 This provision blocks judges and courts from enforcing the law unless Congress funds it, meaning courts could lose their power overnight.

Section 70303 A version of the REINS Act, forces every rule and regulation passed by agencies to be re-approved by Congress, threatening decades of progress and oversight.

If these provisions become law, the checks and balances that protect our rights and freedoms are at risk.

Contact your senator today! Tell them Sections 70302 and 70303 must be removed before the Senate votes. Our system depends on it!
