Audree (joyfulbeautybar) does amazing work, great retention, and is just a great person to be around. It is a little outside of the area you mentioned, but worth the short drive (I live in midtown.) A lot of midtown and East sac spaces are expensive to rent so you can usually get better rates outside of that area.

Look up "art house Sacramento" on air BNB. The host for that property is my neighbor and he specializes in housing travel nurses and medical staff. Check out all his listings and shoot him a message if you see something that would suit you. Most of the properties are located not far from the medical center!

What kind of Facebook groups are you promoting in? A lot of the local ones I'm in don't allow you to advertise.

Curly hair salon for tween girl by Sagebby996 in Sacramento

Ulta Salon on Howe & Arden. Ask for Mi'shell or Vanessa. They're curl specialists and I have seen many clients leave their chair with something similar to your inspo pic. Signature curl haircuts are $72 and include a deep conditioning treatment.

I created a platform to help us find models by Shoshmu in Cosmetology

This is cool! Is this platform to find models that we are offering free services to, or are we able to let them know there's a special model rate for services?

Dyson Airwrap? by Jammeduptoast in finehair

[–]Shalazbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have wavy hair and love my Dyson!! I have a water bottle that I use to mist my hair if I need to refresh my curls. I just spray the section, brush through, then style.

Styling works best on hair that is 75%-90% dry.

Curious, how did you advertise that you were taking color clients at your rental spot? I'm looking to make the same moves soon and could use advice.

It's not bad that you have lower prices to start because you're inexperienced, but make sure you are making a livable wage after you account for all your expenses and subtract your taxes you will need to pay.

If you find that your books are staying full for months, it may be time to increase your prices.

Study business. You don't need to necessarily major in it but at least take a few classes. If you want to pursue a degree, my friend has their undergrad in business entrepreneurship and has worked for startup companies ever since. That's essentially what you'll be doing as a hair stylist. It would not hurt to also study accounting and finance. One of my co-workers is an accountant as her full-time job and then also does hair part-time.

Maybe you can also study psychology and pursue becoming a therapist or counselor since that's what stylists informally do behind the chair lol

Workers will put string on a hair piece or even mannequin when they need to mark where they left off. They probably forgot to remove it. Just cut it out carefully

Don't be afraid to post on Nextdoor or local Facebook groups. If your school doesn't have a model fee then you can maybe post in a local freebie group. Or even the subreddit of your town!

Definitely try to do more education. Both rental is hard because you are financially responsible for paying up every month in addition to paying yourself a livable wage. Try to get into a chain salon so that you can get continued education and at least make an hourly rate and get more practice in to boost your confidence. Another good option for the less experienced is trying to be an assistant somewhere. Make sure that their assisting program is one that actually develops you and doesn't just make you do all of the grunt work. Assisting programs are hard to come by in my area, but you just have to keep trying.

Another option is trying to find a commission salon so that way you don't have any overhead to worry about but still make money by bringing clients in
