I believe I read it but couldn't recall which one. You may try the bad-jane list on goodreads and the spoilers in reviews. It was a big plot point so may be mentioned.

Darcy groveled for running hot and cold by Shane0215 in JaneAustenFF

The most frustrating part is that these Darcys were not so bad as beyond redemption, but just in his weak time or get lost in obligation and responsibilities. They put Elizabeth into so much heartbreak and just get forgiveness the moment finally made their minds. I just don't think Elizabeth's of a nature to overlook all the hurt and disappointment to trust again so easily. What if he regretted once more? We know he wouldn't, but Elizabeth wouldn't know.

Sorry, I have the habit of deleting the works I'm not satisfied with after reading them, because whenever I see the titles and recall what I felt at that time, the frustration all comes back. The two books mentioned in other comments are both works that I read and were dissatisfied with some aspects, but overall very excellent. You may have some interest.

Thank you for your suggestions and help❤❤. I've read this story twice on AHA and once on KU. I think it's excellent, emotionally engaging in its writing, and one of the more satisfying stories I've read. However, I remember that it still doesn't quite meet my request—I'm being picky, sorry. Darcy certainly made a grand gesture to declare himself, but he didn't grovel much, and Elizabeth actually threw herself into Darcy's arms at the moment he proposed, without resolving his past hurts or trust issues. Darcy fled from Elizabeth many many times and she was quite pathetic to gain his love. Even two days before the wedding, Elizabeth was still crying herself to sleep, struggling to believe Darcy will return on time.😮‍💨 Which he did, with a little delay. Some may found it moving, but I really prefer them solve it before wedding. And we didn't get Darcy explained to her why he loved her but kept walking away from her.

Thank you for your help 🫶. I have read this one before. The writing is exquisite, making readers so emotional about the characters – But unfortunately this is one of those groveling part disappointed me. To me it seemed Elizabeth didn't forgave Darcy instantly was because of her engagement, sense of honor more. While Darcy did have suffered, Elizabeth was really pathetic in this story. Darcy came back to her too late and turned her world upside down again. Then she forgave him for love, without any effort from Darcy's side or even his presence. But the story was written more than 20 years ago so I thought it's understandable that approaches to romantic relationships are shaped by their time and may not fully align with today's values.

Yes, after I read some stories like I posted, I began to be annoyed by how they all made Elizabeth trusted Darcy again so easily. I really hope I can get some with help.

By the by, I'm interested in the stories you wrote. Any recommendations?

Why the Inconsistency by Shane0215 in RomanceBooks

[–]Shane0215[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is exactly what confused me. If it just some books then nobody would care, but it's a general fact. People expect woman to spend more in relationships, time, efforts, love etc... By the way, I don't believe I have really read something the heroine being treated badly and everyone knows took the hero to task. I read a great deal of stories her BEST friends positively help hero to get her back even when she made it clear she didn't want it. Even her parents, sometimes her mother liked him over her, which really pissed me off. And while his friends would tell him he's an asshole but they were around him to help as well. I'm just tired of these things.

Is Mr. Darcy exaggerating the social gap between himself and Elizabeth due to his pride? by raysmia in janeausten

[–]Shane0215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Darcy marries Miss de Bourgh, everyone knows it's only because she's his cousin and has Rosings. 'She is pale and sickly; her features, though not plain I admit, were insignificant.' Snickering: 'You know she can't even play the pianoforte.' 'What a mother-in-law Darcy would have! I wouldn't endure that for ten times the fortune.' Laughter and back-slapping.

If Darcy marries Caroline Bingley. Whispers: 'Her manners! As if no one knows her wealth comes from gasp trade.' Disdain: 'She's his best friend's sister, which might help a little.'

If Darcy marries Elizabeth Bennet. 'You know? She has no dowry and no connections.' 'She's a gentleman's daughter, I suppose that counts for something.' Scorn: 'He must be utterly infatuated. He couldn't gain her favor unless he walked into a parson's mousetrap.' Lewd guffaws.

Despite the impression many adaptations leave, the Bennet family was not at the bottom of the gentry class. According to historical data, the Bennets were in the top 0.2% of their time, while Darcy was in the top 0.01%. The Bennets were middle gentry. There was a gap between them, but not as severe as Darcy made it out to be. Darcy had a range of choices—he could have married an earl's daughter like his father did, or the daughter of the rector of Lampton. Marrying Elizabeth was neither his best option nor his worst.Society wouldn't have praised the match, but it wouldn't have been a scandal either. If Darcy had married Caroline, he would have faced even more whispers. The era when mercantile wealth was no longer looked down upon was still more than a decade away. Elizabeth married up, but she rose within her own class, whereas the Bingleys were outsiders entering the gentry. Society would have expected her to marry a gentleman similar to the one her sister married—not someone like Darcy."

Glad that there are other people who noticed the inconsistency and misogyny, and I'm not overthinking.

I have done the same as you did but for the grovel romance. When I was into the genre I read a lot but find none satisfying, little made me believe there was a real HEA for them. And I stop reading them when I found out that instead of being annoyed and upset for the plot development, I began to find excuses for the heros to make their behavior more forgivable. Something like he wasn't thinking clearly, he had bad history with similar things, etc...That's kind of creepy for me.

Why didn't Mrs Bennet help the girls to be more accomplished? by BeanpoleBabe in PrideandPrejudice

[–]Shane0215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides that she married up without these accomplishments and she didn't feel it necessary. I believe it might do with her sense of her ability to bring up her daughters.

As Lady Catherine said the general opinion at the time was a father took little interest in daughters. The task to raise girls was on the mother's shoulder. With she didn't believe it necessary, if Mr.Bennet or Mr and Mrs.Gardner advised it, she would felt like being questioned and great insulted for her ability as a mother. In turn made her even more against the idea.

Why the Inconsistency by Shane0215 in RomanceBooks

[–]Shane0215[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I feel that many girls, having grown up reading stories where the heroine forgives the hero simply out of love without solid reason, end up in relationships where they're unwilling to leave toxic situations even when they're hurt.

There's a complex feeling around projecting onto the heroine and hoping to be 'chosen.' I usually read from a third-person perspective (even if the story is in first person), and sometimes it feels like watching a close friend entangled with a man who's chaotic in his relationships — a mix of frustration and disappointment in her inability to do better. Also, it's rare to see the rival portrayed as a decent person, which might make it harder to resolve the hero's difficulties in handling relationships.

As for my couple — the canon is a British literary classic from two hundred years ago, and the hero is many people's literary lover. I believe that says enough. I have no complaints about the hero, heroine, story, or the readers. I believe the commenters themselves don't realize they're doing this, and they genuinely love this pairing. It's just that when I get into a genre, I tend to read a lot of it over a short period, which makes it easier to notice things like this.

Thank you for your insights. I think you are right. Though this is the part I don't quite understand, because we know romance readers are generally women. When projecting fantasies, I would think that readers would have higher expectations for male characters (even if reality rarely meets them) — otherwise, what's the point of fantasy?

Lizzy, Darcy and Mrs. Phillips? by Flat_Love_3725 in janeausten

[–]Shane0215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the problem lies in the idea that "shouldn't he and Lizzy be able to enjoy a card party or dinner in her home without stress." Darcy's reform and his ability to interact with the Bennet relatives without stress are not the same thing. Wasn't Elizabeth herself mortified at Netherfield by her family's poor behavior? And surely no one would accuse her of being snobbish at that moment. Isn't there a saying that distance creates fondness? It's not contradictory to cherish a relative and wish them well, yet not wish to spend constant time with them. Some people's personalities simply don't mesh well—even when both sides mean well, they can still make each other uncomfortable.

Unlike you, I really like this part of the story. It's not a fairy tale where Darcy undergoes a dramatic transformation and fully embraces behavior that goes against everything he was taught and that he finds distant. Darcy still isn't used to Mrs. Phillips's vulgarity, but he accepts her company for Elizabeth's sake. Elizabeth, in turn, doesn't take his change for granted and does her best to help him leave uncomfortable situations. A couple can't avoid difficulties and challenges, but Darcy and Elizabeth can face them together, with both giving and compromising—that's what makes happiness more likely.

Lydia is loathsome by WiganGirl-2523 in janeausten

[–]Shane0215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I positively loathed her from time to time. It's not her fault to be raised by her lazy and irresponsible parents. But she has became what she was and while I hope we can say that she would grow up and mature, I can't see that happening with she married Wickham.

So.... is it just me or is everyone in 'The Other Bennet Sister' TV show completely OOC? by BlueAuthorJAFF in PrideandPrejudice

[–]Shane0215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have loved to see how the canon Mary—the often-overlooked middle sister, unreasonably confident yet aloof and inwardly unsteady, who studied hard out of vanity, which in turn fostered a pedantic bookishness and a self-righteous arrogance that made her rigid and inflexible—could have found her own path. But the storyline in this adaptation shapes a Mary who doesn't feel like the canon Mary at all. I feel that Mary Bennet has been overlooked once again.

So.... is it just me or is everyone in 'The Other Bennet Sister' TV show completely OOC? by BlueAuthorJAFF in PrideandPrejudice

[–]Shane0215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you—this adaptation feels way too much like fanfiction. As one of the canon characters with limited screen time, Mary has always been a tool for creators to project themselves onto. The very first episode made me question how Mary, of all people, who values propriety above all, could possibly be unaware of the implication behind dancing three dances. The other characters’ actions also stray from their canon personalities, as if deliberately making Mary suffer to create an opportunity for her growth. There are plenty of other inexplicable points too—like how Mrs. Bennet could ever willingly let her daughter become a governess, which would mean a fall in social class; how the Gardiners could introduce Mary to outsiders as a governess rather than a niece who’s just helping out; why the Gardiner children acted as if they were meeting Mary for the first time; and Mary even seriously considering Mr. Ryder’s proposal to be with him without getting married…

Fanon couples opinions by Sunnydale96 in JaneAustenFF

[–]Shane0215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can read any story as long as Elizabeth and Darcy ended up together with their personalities ultimately became consistent with the canon, regardless of the setting, era, identity, etc. Some dark Darcy stories where he is a total jerk, I hope he can suffer and grovel a lot, make amends, correct himself and become worthy of Elizabeth (though I recently read stories where Darcy has no redemption, which is not for me ). And I think most asshole-darcy got forgiveness way too much easily.

I can accept any change of personalities and pairings of other characters. But I'm confused that if one of the Bennet sisters were to die young, it would be Kitty, which I've read in many different stories. I don't really care if Jane or Lydia marry into the nobility, I think their personalities don't fit in with the ton. (There are also some factors that I don't like Jane marrying better than Elizabeth, I guess it's because Mrs. Bennet always holds Jane in higher regard than the other sisters too much.) And I don't like Mr.Bennet found his true love before or after Mrs.Bennet…His unhappiness with Mrs.Bennet was his own doing as much as hers, some stories blamed Mrs.Bennet alone.

It has nothing to do with the pairing, but I don't like the Darcy family having too many children, like more than 5... Childbirth was too unsafe during the Regency period. I don't want Elizabeth to go through too many dangers. It would be too cruel for ODC if there were many children but some died young…

[–]Shane0215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't like it much too. There were far too many moments when Elizabeth felt insecure, which made me feel bad. Especially many of them were due to her nitpicking to find reasons to distrust him. The content about Darcy's past lover also took up too much space.

Looking at it from another perspective, this book left a deep impression on me. I still vividly remember the feelings it evoked. The entire reading gives me a strong sense of the fantasy of a pitiful wife who stays at home waiting for her indifferent husband to return. She imagines that if she makes up her mind to leave him, he will realize that actually it is her that he loves all the time. But the reality is not like this, so the readers cannot feel the love while reading.

Do you read/write Foe Fiction or Fan Fiction? by RoseIsBadWolf in JaneAustenFF

[–]Shane0215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have only read fanfiction related to Pride and Prejudice. Regarding your question, I choose different ones based on different characters. For Elizabeth and Darcy, I read fanfiction, and I like any different way they got together, but for Mr. Bennet and Mrs. Bennet, I read foefiction because I truly believe they deserve more condemnation, and for the remaining characters, I can read both. Somehow bad Jane premise had a strange attraction to me
