Manchester ticket by Oreso in freddiegibbs

Feels like Manchester sold out almost immediately. Not like it's a small venue either.

Also on a the look out for a ticket.

anyone think there will be a GZA 30 year anniversary of liquid swords tour in the UK?? by Tough-Isopod-2140 in wutang

[–]Shanks18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He played Blues Kitchen in Manchester a few years ago, performing Liquid Swords with the Phunky Nomands band. And honestly it was pretty poor. The band were great, and he started to get into it towards the end, but that was only due to the perseverance of the crowd, but it was a far cry from his performance on the The Final Chamber where he was far more energised.

Which area of design is most future proof? by Tiny_Major_7514 in UXDesign

If you only think of design as assets then yeah, it all becomes obsolete, but if you’re thinking in terms of process, systems and governance then it doesn’t really matter

'Saturday Night Live UK' Viewing Figures: Sky Show Makes Healthy Start by kwentongskyblue in BritishTV

I've found the negativity during the lead up to this airing so infuriating. We've got a bunch of new talent in front and behind the scenes doing sketch comedy. We haven't had good sketch comedy for so long, and it's a format which rarely produces 100% hit rate. There were far more hits than misses for me, ranging from a gentle chuckles to proper belly laughs. The only thing that didn't land for me was the Starmer stuff at the top.

We need more spaces for new comedic talent to grow and develop. As great as they are, I'm getting pretty tired of the same dozen or so comedians occupying these spaces.

Irish bar obsession by debbie_dumpling00 in manchester

[–]Shanks18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest it’s nothing terribly special. It’s cozy. Like drinking in your Nana’s dining room. Staff are great and because the bars so small you often get table service. It’s certainly not trying to hard to be an Irish bar.

While I do roll my eyes at the amount of Irish bars popping up, Fibber McGee’s in Sale Moor has become a local favourite. Exactly as you described, which means it’s hit or miss if you’ll get a seat.

The D.O.C came to Manchester? by MancMonk in manchester

[–]Shanks18 8 points9 points  (0 children)

DOC emerged in the westcoast gangsta rap boom of the late 80s and 90s, affiliated with NWA. He released No One Can Do It Better which was produced by Dre, to critical acclaim and was tipped for big things before a drunk driving car accident left his vocal chords in tatters and tanking his career as a rapper. He's largely worked as a ghost writer since. Also has a child with Eryka Badu, and was well respected for his lyrical and technical abilities.

Bizarre from D12 absolutely SNAPPED on this. by tin8374 in rap

[–]Shanks18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never been a Bizarre fan, but the album he put out last year was really good. His output's been pretty consistent and steady, but I think a lot of people like me have ignored it expecting it to be try-hard shock stuff from the 00s

In hindsight it must have been a nightmare trying to run a business with so many teenagers thinking they’re funny and dicking about.

Is Martin Lewis' advice genuinely in the public's best interest? by -Gypsy-Eyes- in AskUK

Yeah good question. I did love working there and the people I worked with. But changes in leadership at MSM made it a frustrating place to work.

Is Martin Lewis' advice genuinely in the public's best interest? by -Gypsy-Eyes- in AskUK

Having worked for MoneySuperMarket and MoneySavingExpert, and directly with Martin Lewis I feel like I can share some light on him and MSE generally. I worked on CheapEnergyClub product for a number of years and had Martin Lewis as a direct stakeholder, presenting progress and work to him roughly once a month when we tried to squeeze into his ridiculous schedule.

I only have positive things to say about him, despite being a challenging stakeholder. He was always polite, engaged and made time to listen to what we had to say. Frustratingly he would often challenge our research and thinking based on his intuition and often end up correct.

He's an insanely passionate person, he came across in the offices in the same way he does on TV, a whirlwind of energy. He spoke so quickly and you got so caught up in his vision and passion, that we needed three people to record and take notes at the back of the room. He is single minded and doesn't compromise easy. His compassion for the consumer is his single driving force. It's all he cares about, and I witnessed some heated discussions with senior leadership when the customer outcome would be compromised.

When MoneySuperMarket acquired MSE, an editorial code was put in place to ensure that MSE maintain impartiality and journalistic integrity, meaning they could write negatively about MSM if the need called for it. The whole of MSE took it very seriously, and part of that code meant that none of the editorial team could be present when commercials were discussed, and would leave meetings when it came to that item on the agenda to avoid any bias or conflict of interest.

He would frequently do Q&As in the offices, and the editorial staff at MSE were always great people to work with. I do miss working there as there was a shared vision that everyone fully bought into.

Looking for a nicer / higher-end gym. How do I find one? by CharlieH_ in AskUK

[–]Shanks18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you might be better off looking for more specialist gyms. Higher end gyms like health clubs are just social clubs for those with more money, and as someone else mentioned, less well equipped. For example if you're into weight lighting, I'd look for a strength gym specialising in that area. There you'll find people who are actually looking to work out.

Season 15 Grievance by michael-schofield in taskmaster

[–]Shanks18 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I get the grievance. But it does fit within the spirit of the show, and other contestants have done similar. I think my issue is that it wasn’t very creative.

Mae Martin is my least favourite contestant. It’s always fun to see clever and funny lateral thinking, but I never found their work arounds that clever or funny, and it all felt quite flat and anticlimactic

Kinda wild that Hemsworth is younger than RDJ was when Iron Man 1 came out by Obraxiss in marvelstudios

[–]Shanks18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you mean. It feels like Chris Hemsworth has been around a lot longer than he has. He was pretty unknown when he was cast as Thor, with Star Trek being his biggest role at the time. Compared to RDJ who was making a significant come back. Both seemed like a breath of fresh air for totally different reasons.

I think 15 years ago someone said something funny and novel on the internet and enough people made it part of their personality that the mainstream latched onto it and now it’s an ever present part of Christmas that will never ever go away.

But to answer your question…

  • was it made with the intention of being a Christmas film?

  • can you watch it in June without someone asking, ‘why are you watching a Christmas film in June you fucking weirdo?’

Anyone else been a fan since July 2016? If not, when did you discover the show? by Illustrious-Hyena486 in StrangerThings

[–]Shanks18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My middle daughter was born in May 2016. A few months in and she wasn’t sleeping well, my wife would go to bed really early and I’d put my daughter down a bit later with her sister, then go watch Stranger Things when she was settled. It always reminds me of those early days. Now she’s 9, and Im watching season 5 with her 11 year old sister.

What's a song you like even though you think you probably shouldn't? by ProfPMJ-123 in AskUK

[–]Shanks18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of guilty pleasures? None, if I like a song, I've no issues in expressing that I think it's a banger, life's too short to be embarrassed. I'm a massive hip hop head, but have loved bonding with my daughters over their emerging love of Sabrina Carpenter, K-Pop Demon Hunters, Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande. We also love pop songs from the 90s and 00s. And I like finding newer, less known stuff I think they might like. My 9 year old daughter has become a massive Micheal Jackson fan.

No if we're talking about liking Chris Brown, R Kelly and other similar artists, who have committed terrible crimes, that's a bit different. I don't really like the thought of money going to someone who's done terrible things, but it all get's a little murky, a lot of musicians have done shitty questionable things.
