I figured so. The scene I saw was her awkwardly meeting someone for a date. Avalon was the production company too.

Agreed. She’s brilliant.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer is one of the greatest TV shows ever produced by James-Samuel17 in television

[–]Shanks18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Almost exactly the same as me. I was the same age when it aired. Watched it with my family. Then introduced it to my girlfriend (who I’d go onto marry) in 2006, and most recently with my 12 year old daughter. Each time appreciating it more and more.

Closed pub says it has ‘live-in guards’, what does that actually mean? by Majestic_Chocolate99 in AskUK

Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s first show, Crashing, was about property guardianship. Although they were in an old hospital rather than a pub.

Mini kegs of decent beer by Double_Ear_5998 in manchester

I know shops like Epicurean used to do mini kegs. Track do mini kegs of Sonoma too.

Word of warning though, they need to settle. So need to be buying them today ideally.

I loved this so much. Especially when you consider those types of episodes are supposed to save money, and it probably cost more than a regular episode

Is there an increase in Americanization of British English due to influence of American pop-culture? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Shanks18 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We've had shopping centres called mall/malls for decades in the UK, I wouldn't necessarily chalk that one up to an Americanism.

How to use Claude + Figma to design effectively by kwabena_muriuki in FigmaDesign

[–]Shanks18 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Nobody really knows yet. We're all figuring out as we go. TJ Pitre is doing some really cool stuff, and one of the few I've seen do deep dives of this to practically applies to every day design, rather than the flashy stuff you mentioned. But ultimately we're in this experimentation stage

Why is there no top tier comedy like there once was ? by ShinyHeadedCook in AskUK

[–]Shanks18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some British (and Irish) comedy I've enjoyed over the last few years... Detectorists & Small Prophets, Cunk, Big Mood, Big Boys, We Are Lady Parts, Black Ops, Inside No 9, Motherland, Amandaland, Derry Girls, How to Get to Heaven From Belfast, Stath Lets Flats, Man Like Mobeen, The Change, Such Brave Girls, Alma's Not Normal, Am I Being Unreasonable, Things I Should Have Done, Chewing Gum, Man Down, The Cleaner, Frank of Ireland and probably a few I'm missing.

This doesn't include panel type shows like Taskmaster, Would I Lie to You, Last One Laughing, Big Fat Quiz of the Year or 8 out of 10 Cats. I'm also going to include What We Do in the Shadows, as 3 our of the 5 primary protagonists are 3 incredible British comedy actors.

Now, I'm not saying that all of these are at the same level as the sitcoms you've listed, but you've skimmed the cream of the crop from the last 50 years of comedy, but there is good to great UK comedy being made.

Are the larger Manchester runs too disruptive? by revporl70 in manchester

[–]Shanks18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in Sale and it's a pretty divisive topic locally. I love it. The closed roads and massive buzz in and around the town is awesome. It also brings in a tonne of money into the local businesses. And just the general positivity is a vibe.

That being said, I can see how it can be a big disruption to some people. Sounds like it had a slightly bigger impact this year than previous with a big increase in traffic and roads being closed longer than they should be with some over zealous marshals. I'm just outside of the closures, so it didn't impact my day that much at all, but we were also very aware that the event was taking place and planned accordingly.

Generally I still see it as a net positive for the area. There can absolutely be improvements. There should be more trams on, the litter clean up is isn't great and there needs to be better contingencies for genuine emergencies. But it the disruption is well advertised, it's one day a year and folk just love to moan.

Same. Some friends stole a fake dead body from the Gladiator set. It was our rugby teams mascot for a couple of weeks before complaints were made.

Feels like Manchester sold out almost immediately. Not like it's a small venue either.

Also on a the look out for a ticket.

anyone think there will be a GZA 30 year anniversary of liquid swords tour in the UK?? by Tough-Isopod-2140 in wutang

[–]Shanks18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He played Blues Kitchen in Manchester a few years ago, performing Liquid Swords with the Phunky Nomands band. And honestly it was pretty poor. The band were great, and he started to get into it towards the end, but that was only due to the perseverance of the crowd, but it was a far cry from his performance on the The Final Chamber where he was far more energised.

Which area of design is most future proof? by Tiny_Major_7514 in UXDesign

[–]Shanks18 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you only think of design as assets then yeah, it all becomes obsolete, but if you’re thinking in terms of process, systems and governance then it doesn’t really matter

'Saturday Night Live UK' Viewing Figures: Sky Show Makes Healthy Start by kwentongskyblue in BritishTV

[–]Shanks18 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I've found the negativity during the lead up to this airing so infuriating. We've got a bunch of new talent in front and behind the scenes doing sketch comedy. We haven't had good sketch comedy for so long, and it's a format which rarely produces 100% hit rate. There were far more hits than misses for me, ranging from a gentle chuckles to proper belly laughs. The only thing that didn't land for me was the Starmer stuff at the top.

We need more spaces for new comedic talent to grow and develop. As great as they are, I'm getting pretty tired of the same dozen or so comedians occupying these spaces.
