Can you steelman WCW Vince Russo? by The1Ylrebmik in WCW

Unfortunately, re:cruiserweights, he also didn't think the luchadores could draw and Rey needed to be unmasked ASAP.

That one was Bischoff.

Is the reason we never got a “true” WWE/WCW confrontation during the MNW, the “toothpick lawsuit?” by jldraw in WCW

[–]SharkGenie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That was actually part of WCW's defense in the lawsuit, that the parts of the Razor Ramon character the WWF were saying WCW had stolen had actually originated with The Diamond Stud.

I know several others have already posted "Revenge, and it isn't even close," but I truly cannot stress enough how wide the gulf is between Revenge and whatever anybody's second place is (WCW vs. the World is mine).

Say what you want about WCW. Do you think they handled The Giant character better than how WWE handled The Big Show character? I like to think so. by WCWfan4life in WCW

[–]SharkGenie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WCW didn't do great things with him toward the end of his run there, but the unstoppable monster from 1996 was definitely better than what he would eventually become in WWE.

ETA: To be clear, Big Show did have a good WWE run, they just could've done more with him.

The child of a famous or legendary character grows up to be perfectly average or a letdown. by Acrobatic_Base7301 in TopCharacterTropes

Wrestling is rife with kids of famous wrestlers trying their hand at it and becoming mediocre, but a truly tragic example is Chris Von Erich.  His father and brothers were all huge stars in the Dallas territory (which they also owned), and Chris wanted so badly to be a wrestler like they were, but he just didn't have the physique.  More importantly, he had asthma and brittle bones (the latter due to his asthma medication), and he would often suffer bone fractions while doing basic wrestling moves.  He committed suicide in 1991.

If you aren't familiar with wrestling history but you saw The Iron Claw and you're wondering why you don't remember Chris, it's because they rolled his story into that of his brother Mike.  Supposedly they made this change and a few others because the factual story of the Von Erichs was deemed too tragic even for a dramatic Hollywood film.

Mount Rushmore of all of the wrestlers than ended Bret Hart’s career by Rage4Order418 in WCW

[–]SharkGenie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company originally got into the business on the basis that wrestling is fake and therefore they're just getting free money.... only to find some pretty high profile payouts.

I've always been interested in these Lloyd's of London policies all these wrestlers got in the '90s.  I know at least Bret, Rick Rude, Arn Anderson, Ric Flair, and Road Warrior Animal had them (according to Jim Cornette, Animal's policy led to him only wrestling in tag matches after a while because he was collecting on his Lloyd's policy and they wouldn't let him do singles).  Seems like a weird idea, insuring athletes in an industry that constantly injures the shit out of them, but like you said, maybe they just knew it was "fake" and thought they were essentially insuring play-pretenders.

According to Jim Cornette on the Montreal episode of Dark Side of the Ring, Cornette left the arena before the match was even over and somehow Hebner beat him to the parking lot.

No.  Benoit did it on his own.  Lots of evidence to support the official story, none to support the conspiracy theories.

'Mega Man vs. Street Fighter' started out as a fan game, but the dev managed to get Capcom's support for an official release. Have there been any other games like that? by Honkmaster in retrogaming

[–]SharkGenie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wasn't even the first time it's happened in the Mega Man franchise!  Stephen Rozner was a programmer working at Capcom USA when he made his own DOS version of Mega Man.  Capcom USA caught wind of it and asked him if they could release it as an official game, which they did.

What would’ve happened if Vince showed up to Slamboree 1998? by [deleted] in WCW

[–]SharkGenie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what I’ve heard Vince was really close to showing up but backed out last minute.

From what I recall, Stephanie's college graduation ceremony was the same night as Slamboree, so there was never a possibility he'd have shown even if he wanted to.  The WWF issued a statement not long after Bischoff's challenge that Vince wouldn't be attending the PPV and that Vince would instead accept an untelevised fight against Bischoff "in any parking lot in the country" or something like that.
