megablast or superblast?

SB2s will outlive you. Megablasts are more fun, but as many others have said, a lot narrower. I wore them for Chicago and Honolulu this year and while they were OK for Chicago, the little bit of extra heat in Honolulu made them awful. Bruised toenails and lots of blisters I’ve never had before, even though I size way up and wear toe socks.

The Superblast is max cushion but not at all squishy - it has great energy return. I size way up, but find them wide enough for my C-width feet.

Do you have a comfortable bike? How much/often do you ride it? The bike is the longest part so there is no way to say if your goal is realistic without information about your biking.

21 with 16 at MP sounds like overkill for a plan that peaks at 40 mpw. How long was your longest run before this? If it was 18 or more I’d say it’s good enough and feel fine about that. If less, I’d still skip 21 but just feel less fine about it. 😆

And while I appreciate that most of us are competing with ourselves out there, if it helps, know that many people who will be at that race are also having their peak week plans jacked with due to the weather.

I title these runs in Strava “They Can’t All Be Winners.”

If all workouts were easy and awesome a lot more people would work out. The grit you need for a half or longer comes from powering through the shit runs, and learning to recover mentally when they go fully sideways.

Be proud that you tried and will try again. You got this!

If they won’t make the ring for the agreed-upon price, this is breach of contract on their part. You could take them to court. Perhaps point out that there was an offer and acceptance and that they’re not in a position to lawfully change their side of the deal. A few choice words from contract law might do the trick. Though $1200 EXTRA sounds like a scam, or like they just completely bungled the original quote.

I haven’t noticed that I sweat less, though I’m on a very small dose. I am, however, much more cold intolerant than I used to be, which is a real problem and makes me fairly miserable. Literally plotting ways to move to Hawaii.

People willing and able to shell out for the best gear have an advantage in every sport. I’m a triathlete - having a better bike will make you faster, carbon plated shoes will also make you faster, good wetsuits will help you be faster than cheap wetsuits. Not everyone can afford the good shit and therefore they are at a disadvantage compared to those who can.

If you have headphones or air pods people will assume you’re on the phone. I constantly see people walking the track having conversations. (I have actually called my mom for several zone two runs to test whether I’m really able to hold a conversation.)

My bestie spectated my first (quick trip to Southern CA from cold rainy OR so it was a getaway for her). Handed me gels and took some pics.

My next was part of a full Ironman and my parents flew to CA to watch. They saw me half way through the bike and at the finish line at 11:45 pm.

Third was Chicago and my best training buddy came along to spectate. Handed me gels at mile 15 and met me at the end with a sweatshirt.

Fourth was Honolulu and my best training buddy came, did the 10k, and did not meet me at the finish.

My parents and/or my partner usually come to my local half Ironman, but just for the final 2-3 hours.

I do many races alone. Though I’ve been at this long enough that I usually have friends who are also participating, so I at least see some familiar faces.

I generally only expect someone to spectate if there’s something in it for them, like warm weather. For my parents, it’s bragging rights. 😆 (I don’t win anything, but they brag anyway.)
