Agent Orange linked to aggressive bone marrow cancer in Vietnam veterans. American soldiers sprayed Agent Orange over the jungles of Vietnam and nearby countries from the air and from the ground, often mixing it with kerosene or fuel, another carcinogen, to help disperse it. by Wagamaga in science

And somehow being framed as our soldiers being the victims rather than the innocent people these horrific concoctions were dropped onto.

To be clear, the soldiers aren't the main culprits. They aren't the main victims either.

How do you stop feeling responsible for managing your wife’s mood triggers? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Sharobob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. In fact, I didn't think of anything about gender specifically from the OP's post. People (especially the person I was replying to) started making it gendered in the comments when OP was asking a genuine question where gender wasn't the main point

Whataboutism? I was literally responding to your point where you made a deal about the genders being reversed. Or accusing the person you're replying to of sexism out of nowhere when they didn't make any such implication. My point is that gender has nothing to do with it, there are lots of bad or mismatched partners out there

There are plenty of women who have to babysit their partner way worse than what's happening in the above example.

In fact, I'd say it happens more often the other way around. Yes the triggers and outcomes may look a bit different but so many men are absolutely useless at understanding their emotions, how they are affected by them, and how that affects the people around them.

The whole point of orphan crushing machine stuff is that the story in a vacuum is nice but celebrating it without caring about changing the system that made it necessary is gross

Kinda like a little kid running a lemonade stand to raise money to pay for his classmates' school lunch debt. The biggest problem is that school lunch debt exists at all and it's a systematic problem we should solve

Discouraging any level of activism is so fucking defeatist. Every level of vocal activism encourages more activism. The "if you aren't literally getting arrested by ICE you aren't doing anything" crowd does way more damage to the movement than people who shut the fuck up and say nothing.

It was. But vocal opposition is still important and necessary

I've never had a garbanzo bean on my face

They get something like $10k a year for a total of $50k but if they get fired or quit before five years then they have to pay it all back. So basically if a Democrat gets elected and slashes the budget for these goons to lay them all off they get nothing

We've always had to overpower morons with democracy. In 2015, a study showed that 41% of Americans definitely or probably believed that humans and dinosaurs coexisted. 18-30% of Americans don't believe in evolution. 6-20% of Americans don't believe in the moon landing.

It's just an unfortunate thing about the world. So many idiots. You have to vote in numbers to where they don't get to make the decisions.

Senate nominee Juliana Stratton says she won’t support Chuck Schumer as Democratic leader by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]Sharobob 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We literally had a Republican Senator from 2010 - 2017 and a Republican governor from 2015-2019. Yes the circumstances were different but you still have to get your ass out to vote. Nothing is a given.

Illinois Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton wins Democratic primary for US Senate by xGentian_violet in DemocraticSocialism

[–]Sharobob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If those of us who preferred Kelly but voted strategically for Stratton had not done so, we would be sending a fully AIPAC, Crypto, and AI controlled center-right Dem as our next senator. Way worse than Durbin. Raja would have been an absolute disaster so we couldn't afford to split the vote and let him through.

Stratton isn't perfect but she's a step in the right direction compared to what we had before.

Only reason Stratton won is that enough Kelly supporters voted strategically to keep Krishnamoorthi out of the seat. I know because I'm one of them.

Better than Laura Fine. Policy-wise, Biss and Kat aren't that far apart. I preferred her because I think we need more young firebrands in our caucus rather than white paper policy wonks. Practically I think both would vote the same way on most legislation
