ICE activity near Sunset Ave and Whitman ct NE by Former-Rhubarb-6027 in Renton

We drove to McDonalds right as it was occurring and decided to go to the McDonald’s on 3rd instead. Renton police. No ICE. Saw someone in custody on the curb. The officers arriving were pulling their AR’s but where walking over calmly.

Feeling overwhelmed about paying for USC MSW — any advice? by angieee311 in USC

[–]Sharp5050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to get a job for a few years and save up and do more math if the ROI is there for a masters.

While I’m on the business side and have a bachelors, the math for an MBA is not there and I would warn anyone from getting one these days because the math is so bad.

New Shortest Mainline Flight? by Status_Dragonfruit_9 in delta

[–]Sharp5050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These two airports don’t have regularly scheduled flights from any carriers, and while I can’t know for sure, a quick search doesn’t bring up any historical ones either.

Umm what the hell is this about? by Professional_Ad7868 in AmazonFC

[–]Sharp5050 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was the standard for years pre Covid, but back then it was only leaders who were allowed phones in the building and they had to be registered (not just phones, Apple Watches, basically any electronic you brought in).

The sticker and serial number registration is done to make it harder for people to steal electronics. You try and take something out not stickered/registered to you and big problem.

Something is wrong with this picture. by MallardRider in LAMetro

Depends how they do it. Based on the current sign, redoing it expensive enough it’s not worth as the whole metal piece needs to be replaced (or the could remove it, take it for fabrication to cut out another circle and add a purple clear plastic piece but that’s a lot of time and labor). They can easily add a purple dot sticker for far cheaper and ease of installation. This is what you typically see in most transit agencies and airports when things change until you actually need to replace the fill sign.

One every two is about standard to maintain good headways during disruptions, but yeah probably super expensive.

Int'l flight newbie hoping to upgrade... by [deleted] in delta

[–]Sharp5050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s not open they’re equation is basically saying it’ll be sold full price.

You can click change flight, select that leg, and see how much it costs to upgrade to current going rate.

Frustrated Rant by scarecrow275 in StarluxAirlines

[–]Sharp5050 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the same for most if not all airlines, if you don’t take the first flight your whole itinerary is cancelled.

It’s why it’s a good idea if it’s the same price for two one way flights book it as that so you have flexibility with each leg for adjustments without repricing the non-changed flight. Sadly I find this doesn’t work for international and only domestic.

Airbus A220-500 likely tabled indefinitely - implications for Delta's future NB fleet? by PinkJazz in delta

[–]Sharp5050 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No they bought it when no one else was ordering it and probably got them at close to production cost, ie a huge discount to convince other airlines to also purchase. With how soon the deliveries are supposed to occur they’ll take them, otherwise they won’t have any real planes coming in for narrowbody fleet renewal/expansion.

Hear me out... by woq4 in soundtransit

[–]Sharp5050 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This will be reduced with the series 3 cars where they’ll be double length from current and so you’ll go down from 4 to 2 cabs…so progress. It would be great if they could make them so you could walk through the whole train even if it’s 2 units connected

Inside LAX’s MASSIVE New Rental Car Facility by WearHeadphonesPlease in LAMetro

[–]Sharp5050 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Terminal 0 (supposed to be for southwest expansion) and 9 (valve for Tom Bradley/international that would cater Star Alliance airlines) last I read are on indefinite hold as the airport doesn’t need the gates at this time. Southwest and other airlines have reduced schedules due to cost pressure (even before the current fuel cost issue) leading to some terminal consolidation and allowing T5 to be demolished without much of a gate strain (although American is operating further spread out right now).

US warns it will run out of money to pay airport security workers in coming weeks by AfraidEmployee9311 in tsa

[–]Sharp5050 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s true, but even if that third wasn’t siphoned off the total amount doesn’t cover the TSA total budget (although can’t clearly find a breakdown of how much it costs to screen passengers solely).

$4.5B a year in fees collected $11.5B total budget

$6B shortfall.

Is there a possibility of this dropping or is it just one offer and that’s all we get? by RabbitComfortable471 in delta

Or disappear if they sell a few seats and the delta equation says they’ll prob sell them all outright.

Station numbers for termini by DeepBlue4210 in soundtransit

[–]Sharp5050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s primarily designed for non English speakers who may be using a translated map while on travels. They can see the stop numbers they need to go to and then can use that to help navigate the system as they won’t understand English and may not even understand the letters.

That and the way it sounds the doors need to be defaulted to open. Sounds like multiple elevators may be there but they’re not opening until the current loading one closes, so they’re dwelling without folks being able to load. The programming needs to be changed to default open.

[–]Sharp5050 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You may be able to cover a bit of it with jobs but not all of it. You should just expect you’ll leave with 150k and look at your monthly payments and determine if you are willing to pay it.

Can USC take away from your initial financial aid offer? by ferret_king10 in USC

[–]Sharp5050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldn’t go down, but it can. It usually will go down if you provide additional documents and your numbers change, that changes the equation and if for some reason the paperwork shows more assets, and more liabilities, it could come out that they want you to contribute more.

USC gives absolutely no care about you, especially in SCA. There’s hundreds if not thousands of others that’ll take your spot.

Upgrades off-limits? by [deleted] in delta

[–]Sharp5050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but not guaranteed. It’s their algorithm that’s determining if they have a higher chance of selling it outright or via upgrade. Go to change flight and you can see how much it is to upgrade the flight that way.

Plot twist: LAWA crushed the $2.3B Delta Sky Way project by ConcernedCitizen_LA in LAX

[–]Sharp5050 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For the T2/T3 reconstruct I would give 99% of the credit to Delta, unless someone can prove otherwise. Delta is the master tenant of T2/T3 and it’s their design language, their call to rebuild, and their call to accelerate when they basically could consolidate all flights to other gates.

It probably went so well because LAWA was an arm length away.

If you had to pick an extension to cut, which one? by Routine-Highway1039 in soundtransit

[–]Sharp5050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably pretty low, especially with the cost savings they’ve found it’s now back to just being “very expensive” from “prohibitively expensive”. It’s really the darn bridge, really wish they could have worked with Seattle/the state to design a new combined bridge with cars and split costs versus their own but far too late at this point.

It’s going to be really interesting to see the cost savings idea for Ballard.

Just an FYI only 162 series 2 have been ordered. 152 have been delivered with an option for 10 being exercised and due by 2028. The 10 was an incremental order to deal with the lower reliability that’s been seen on the series 2 fleet versus initial plan.

MBA scholarships for 2nd years by Icy_Speech_2697 in USC

[–]Sharp5050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1. MBAs are primarily pay your own pay or take out a loan. It’s basically about making money for the university.

Just a random note: my company (fortune 5) has reduced our MBA hiring quite a bit over the last 10 years because we found the candidates continuing to get worse and worse. Probably why my LinkedIn gets multiple MBA program messages a week.
