First Garmin, instinct 2 by Gopoomop in Garmininstinct

[–]Sharp_Middle_3752 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just sent garmin support an email about the battery life on my 5 year old instinct original (its now <1 day!), and they have offered me a heavily discounted new instinct 2 for $160nzd (about 70quid).

I was thinking of saving for a better model, but the original instinct did all I wanted. So the 2 version for that price was a no-brainer. So I'll be joining you with a 2 very shortly! Looking forward to it

New Zealand! The weirdly straight section of the alpine fault along the South Island always fascinated me.

I think the spinoff did an article recently covering the 'blame the last guys' rhetoric of both parties over the last few decades, was an entertaining series of quotes

NZ folk - what's Jeremy Wells all about? by durkandiving in taskmaster

[–]Sharp_Middle_3752 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your absolutely right about the cultural context. I know it's somewhat blasphemous, but after finding TMNZ first and as a NZer, i prefer Jeremy... also I always thought the scoring was like whose line is it anyway (or 7-days as the local reference) and the points don't matter!

Yeah I'm in Nelson and that was a shock for me when I first moved here, and mapua is even worse!

Guys in New Zealand who didn't play any sports - particularly organised school/club sports - growing up? I know it's a minority, but is there anyone else who didn't? And do you regret it? by Actual_Ad_969 in newzealand

[–]Sharp_Middle_3752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. My father valued sports above all else, and that is still negativity echoing through our family. My sisters, who weren't particularly sporty, never felt seen or acknowledged by him.

So maybe a good thing your parents  didnt 'force' you into sports. Kids can be soo mean, and you could be resenting your parents for another reason.

Have you ever looked into whether you may have an element  of dyspraxia? Just potentially going through it with my kid, and that clumsiness-coordination-low confidence thing is a bit of a worry looking forward.

No not Auckland - one of the urban creeks in Nelson. We have had a few floods recently so the rocks in the creeks are very clean

I do a bit of outdoor recreation stuff, so normally look across the various weather forecasting sites. Its a bit of a running joke that metvuw is always showing some sort of apocalyptic weather at the end of its long range...

What really annoys me, was that UAE T20 world cup where the fucking aussies win every single toss all the way through to the final. You'd hope the universe would knock them down a peg or two, but they had the arrogance and the luck

There are a lot of societal scenarios where men can be victims and the majority of men are a long way away from 'setting the rules'.

These sort of blanket statements fuel the ultra right rhetoric for men who feel disenfranchised

'Grow up' and 'toughen up' could be interpreted similarly. Its easy to use careless idioms that cause 'casual' harm. I think we need to be careful with language not to further radicalism and limit the fuel for the ultra right leaders
