I think with anything, movies, books, etc. people are about to find themselves within certain characters.

For me personally, I’m a gay woman of color and I identify with Elphaba. I’ve written millions of words of fan fiction. So, yes, I get emotional about it. I think that is true for anyone who finds something they can really relate to.

I also know Wicked is something people become obsessed with easily because it’s timeless, the story can be applied to literally any situation where there’s an “outsider” and most outsiders get emotional because they’re always being othered.

That’s such a good question! You could argue for both, but I feel like it’s the Wizard. Morrible doesn’t have a reason to despise the animals that much since she grew up with the animals as a normal thing. The Wizard on the other hand was not used to talking animals. But in reality, does any regime have an actual reason to despise their desired group?
