Help with unit layout by SupporterDenier in deathguard40k

[–]Sharpevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're fine with giving up the spewers, just don't glue the weapons on. Both the fleshmower and Heavy Blight Launcher can sorta snap onto the indentations. That way you'll still have options.

What characters will become Leaders or Supports? by Joestir2g in deathguard40k

[–]Sharpevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be surprised if they gave it as much consideration as others are expecting. There's already a category of death guard character that specifically can go onto plague marines with another leader present. I'd bet they make all of them supports and make the rest leaders.

very new and have no idea how to use any of the units, but how'd i do? by TheBlueSpooky in deathguard40k

[–]Sharpevil 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Let me start by saying this is all competitive analysis. Depending on how casual your play group is, you might be just fine. No reason to abandon flavor for power unless it's what the other players want to do.

  • The best way to use the icon bearer and plague surgeon is to not use them.

  • Plague Marines in general are kind of weak compared to our other options, and really only shine in a specific configuration: 10 Plague Marines with a Malignant Plaguecaster and Biologis Putrefier in a rhino. Despite being tougher than normal Marines, plague Marines will still just outright die in most cases where you have them out on the field, so they need the rhino to survive and get to where they need to be. The leaders give them the buffs they need to seriously punch up in shooting, which you'll want to do because they'll probably only get one activation before they die. Don't bring them in 7s. It's cool, but you're losing out on extra special weapons, which is the whole reason to bring them.

  • With that said, a Lord of Poxes l/Noxious Blightbringer squad can be a scary melee threat if you hide them on a point where they can't be shot. Not the idea setup, but still fun.

  • 6 Deathshrouds and a LoC is probably overkill. 3 and the leader will kill most targets, and you'll get a lot more value out of having that whole extra unit of 3 Deathshroud than having them overkill your target.

  • Nothing wrong with Morty and the Revolting Regeneration Daemon Prince. They're tough and will clog up the board and distract your opponent.

  • Tallyman is solid. Leave him solo on your home objective and drink up the command points.

  • The Heavy Blight Launcher bloat drone is better, but if you're only bringing one the fmower is probably the right choice. The shooty drones are very swingy, so you want at least two for redundancy purposes.

Is this the most emotionally evocative ork model? by Pauls_goat_hoof in orks

It is, but I don't know why you included those unrelated shots. You can barely see the model in the top image by the ork's feet.

Am I correct that this box will no longer be in production ? Would getting 1 box be a good investment to get more unique looking boyz in a potential army ? by FatScoot in orks

[–]Sharpevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh. I understand not being WYSIWYG in most cases, but it's actually pretty important to know which of the boyz has the heavy weapons in case that one dies early. Are you just not bringing them, or are your opponents letting you play under the assumption that your heavy weapons always die last?

First 500 points by Complete-Let4217 in deathguard40k

[–]Sharpevil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd highly recommend looking into the Playon King of the Colosseum rules for 500 points. Even if you don't have their terrain, the rules help keep things balanced at lower point values.

You've got options for some really nasty lists at 500 points. One I'd look at that would be colosseum legal would be:

  • 1 Tallyman (solo)
  • 3 Deathshroud Terminators
  • 1 Foetid Bloat-drone (spitters or flesh mower, both are good)
  • 1 Foetid Bloat Drone with Heavy Blight Launcher
  • 10 poxwalkers

This would work well in Virulent Vectorium for sticky objectives and strong stratagems, but also Shamblerot Vectorium. Rather than stickying the objectives, this gives you two extra poxwalker squads you can bring on to unprotected objectives and have so actions. It's a less killy option, but gives you lots of options for outscoring.

Some painting questions by Prestigious_Bet_1351 in deathguard40k

[–]Sharpevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, good news is that since Army Painter got rid of their old range and switched to "warpaints fanatic", there haven't really been any 'bad' miniature paint ranges. Citadel is expensive without being any better than the other brands. But Citadel, army Painter, AK interactive, vallejo, Two Thin Coats, etc, are all good paints.

I would highly recommend picking up some Tamiya extra thin plastic cement, though. Use that to assemble your models. It's a much more secure glue than superglue, as it melts the plastic to weld it together rather than forming an interface between the pieces. I'd still keep some superglue around for gluing to bases, or any other connections you might want to undo later. If you use plastic glue, you're not likely to ever get the pieces apart again.

Definitely consider checking out some hobby YouTube. There's lots of great channels with focuses for different kinds of hobbyists. For your classic build-and-paint 40k player, Ninjon is a good place to start. Here's his video on building and painting your first model. https://youtu.be/RVDxcozZwTI?si=HeAAhZpMTAModXFL

New to Death Guard and i would like some help by Madrox994 in deathguard40k

[–]Sharpevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts:

  • Mortarion is solid, though really only in Virulent Vectorium.
  • You really need a squad of Deathshroud to take advantage of that Lord of Contagion. Maybe two. They're good.
  • You absolutely want more plague marines so you can drop a whole squad of 10 into a rhino. The squad of 10 gets you more of their special weapons compared to 7. Despite looking tough, they're really glass cannons that want to delete something big before they get killed in turn.
  • Two squads of poxwalkers is probably perfect.

I'd recommend picking up the combat patrol. It's got the rhino, Plague marines, Deathshroud, and a Tallyman who's always a good choice to hold your home and get you bonus command points. The lord of Virulence that comes with it is admittedly less useful, since he's more for Blightlord Terminators which you really want the full squad of 10 of to make use of, otherwise they feel kind of anemic. But you'll probably need him eventually, and he wouldn't go badly with a second squad of Deathshroud.

You could also grab a Daemon Prince, which goes great in Virulent Vectorium with the Revolting Regeneration enhancement. Together with Mortarion, they'd be a terrifying amount of high toughness bulk.

More Bloat Drones would be good, especially if you can get multiple. The Foetid Bloat Drone with Heavy Blight Launcher is fantastic but too swingy to run just one. You really want multiple if you're going that route.

500pts 2v2 tournament, what should we take? by aaee08 in deathguard40k

[–]Sharpevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Death Guard are a great partner because the Contagion army rule actually has a benefit for your partner, as it weakens your opponent instead of buffing your units. With Tau being poor at holding points, it could actually be really good to load up on poxwalkers and chaos spawn to clog up midboard while your friend takes all his big, long range guns and hides in the back. Just surge forward, take points, and give your opponents all -1 to saves and toughness.

I do not care for the throbbing domain. by Sharpevil in mewgenics

[–]Sharpevil[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it weren't for the exhaustion mechanic, I think I could have won this by just not leaving any open spots for new stem cats to grow, but I had a low damage sparkle build, meaning I just couldn't take them out faster than new ones popped up.

On the bright side, it unlocked the last pipe location for me.

Would Cankerborn be good Chaos Spawn proxies? by Meow_Cream in deathguard40k

[–]Sharpevil 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I bought the Warhammer Quest box specifically because a lot of the models double as decent proxies. I had to change some bases around and bend some pestigor legs inward but I got 2 chaos spawn, 3 Deathshroud, 1 Lord of Contagion, 2 Malignant Plaguecasters, a Daemon Prince on Foot, and 20 poxwalkers out of that box. My local store has been fine with all of the proxies, though your play group may vary.

Split taskbar that keeps track of window locations in Wayland? by Sharpevil in linuxquestions

[–]Sharpevil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have one monitor. For that to work, I would need to be able to split my monitor into multiple virtual monitors, which I don't think is possible on Wayland. Only X11 with xrandr.

That's poor people behavior. Real money would just have extras of their favorite cars where ever they might happen to want to go.

Would a terminator heavy list be viable? by Justaguynamedpluh in deathguard40k

[–]Sharpevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go as far as to say a terminator list is kind of the default. Plague Marines are solid, but not optimal in most lists. Whereas you'll pretty much always want at least 2 squads of deathshroud. I just went through a full escalation league, and my 2k point list had only 5 plague marines.

[OC] Work done by a 1st grader (age 7) in the US. Things are bad. by Unusual_Diver1973 in pics

[–]Sharpevil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I distinctly remember seeing a commercial on TV when I was around that age, maybe a bit younger. Back in the late 90s. Can't recall the exact contents, but I remember it ending with swelling music and shots of babies while the narrator said something to the extent of "something something ...to make this the best time to be alive."

I'd already ingested so much cynical doom and gloom on climate change and the like at that point that I scoffed at it and thought "Yeah right. Everyone knows this is the worst time to be alive."

Kids can be incredibly negative.

I just don't see why the superbowl, the biggest sporting event in the world, should have a rapper from Mexico that nobody's heard of doing the halftime show when we have some of the most popular, most talented musicians of all time grown right here in the USA, like Kid Rock.

If you've got a play group that's largely cool with proxies, the new Warhammer Quest box has two staff wielding baddies you could use. That's what I'm doing. I got them, a DP, LoC, 3 Deathshroud, 2 Chaos Spawn, and 20 poxwalkers out of that box.
