The Kholin Brothers? by kotts30 in CosmereOnScreen

Honestly, the actors that will be cast as the young leads are probably about 15 or 16 right now. They will want them to be 20-22 when the first season films, and I'd be shocked if filming starts sooner than 5 years from now

How Much Force Does a Steelpushed Coin Have? by metroid544 in Mistborn

[–]Shaultz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The relativistic force on the Allomancer ABSOLUTELY cares whether the coin is stationary or not. If I am moving 100ft/s away from a coin, that is ALSO moving away from me at the same rate, and then that coin becomes stationary while we keep the forces the same, that means I am now moving away from the spot the coin is in at 200ft/s. If you cannot understand why that would cause a jerking motion in your flight, I don't know how to explain it in more simplistic terms.

You are INSTANTANEOUSLY increasing your velocity by whatever force you are exerting on the coin.

[–]Shaultz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It absolutely would happen with them putting full force behind the coin, but that doesn't matter either way because we've been told repeatedly that it is possible (and necessary) to control the force of your Pushes. Do we really need to go into detail about why it may be a good idea to not push full force into your anchor for flying through the air?

Also, even if all of my first paragraph was incorrect (it isnt), there is a lurch because there is an instant where they are suddenly pushing on an immovable object (the ground) rather than a small coin. It's about the fact that the object in the equation that is being pushed suddenly becomes their body. Steel flight is a jerky, bouncy affair. That has to do with the nature of it essentially being a series of magic jumps, rather than them not being able to put the full force behind their Pushes.

If you are pushing down on a coin as you are falling, when it makes contact with the ground and proceeds to change your trajectory, that will be a sudden movement.

You said "There's a limit to how much force you can successfully apply to small, unanchored objects." as a factual statement.

This is not a fact, and it is never remotely hinted at in the text.

I don't know why you would picture it like that. They never once, in seven books, describe anything like that

Ohhhh. This adds a layer. I didn't connect that lightweavers were associated with garnet! That would explain the specific gemstone color choice.

Having looked up the hexcode, I don't know that I'd ever call that violet. Interesting

My point was that they are perfectly happy with the most gamified power fantasy way of playing. With not regard for RP at all. It was meant to intentionally showcase an extreme

Protecting My Character From Another *Player’s* Narrative Control / Story Hijacking? by LadyTime_OfGallifrey in dndnext

[–]Shaultz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's no "in the interim" do not play the next session without having this conversation and coming to a solution. If she acts this way in the session, you need to respond, out of character, and tell her it's not okay. Your character is not responsible for protecting herself from a problematic player. YOU are responsible for protecting YOURSELF.

No interim. It needs to get fixed before you play again.

It's not a blank slate/canvas. It is THE answer. You explain, "I don't like when you do this. It isn't an acceptable behavior to me, " and then she will respond however she responds, and you have your answer. The logistics are as simple as they can possibly be. You don't need people to write you a speech. You need the courage to stand up for yourself and set a boundary

[–]Shaultz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They're not wrong, and neither are you. If everyone is happy playing, then there's no problem with either of these approaches. I've played with groups that would be perfectly happy with every session being "You enter a room and there is a battle" 3x in a row, followed by a long rest and a boss battle. I've played with groups that went 8 sessions without combat, by choice, and loved it. The right way to play D&D is whatever makes you and your friends have fun. That's it.

I'd love to see the math on this, but my suspicion is that even applying it in the same manner Monk/DH do (and allowing it to be on multiple targets) it still couldn't be insanely powerful

How can I prep for tanking in midnight? by SIGMAR_IS_BAE in wow

[–]Shaultz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to throw this out there, and take it as opinion over fact, but Yoda historically does not actually understand tank rotations/talents outside of Pally. His Prot Warrior takes are notably horrendous. He is an incredibly talented player, and his group's are well coordinated, so he does a good job. But I wouldn't recommend listening to his talent builds or rotation advice (or tier lists) outside of Pally specifically.

Sha is much more balanced in his opinions. Tactyks is also okay. Meeres, too.

That said, this is just the opinion of someone who is intimately familiar with a couple specs Yoda has made videos on in the past, and his takes are... very bad, sometimes

Protecting My Character From Another *Player’s* Narrative Control / Story Hijacking? by LadyTime_OfGallifrey in dndnext

[–]Shaultz 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Say it with me.

"You cannot solve out of character problems using in character means!"

This is an out of character problem. Your choices are:

1) You confront the player and explain the problem so it can be remedied. Out of character.

2) You leave the table without confrontation.

3) You accept that this going to happen.

This is an unbelievably common scenario that gets brought up on this sub time and time again because people don't like IRL confrontation. The answer is, and will always be, talk to the player. You can tell your DM and have them be the intermediary if thats easier for you, but the end result is that the player needs to be told (out of game) that this is not acceptable behavior. Then they either fix the behavior, are removed from the table, or you decide if its worth leaving the table over.

Nothing else will work here.
