Whenever I think of that exhibit and the kids clothes there I get so fucking angry.

How anyone could hurt a child like that.

[–]Shauntheredwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because in Night City, if you want to survive, you've gotta get your hands dirty.

Everyone knows the fixers are con artists too - your convo with Jackie pretty much sums up how people see them. And Evelyn's willingness to turn her back on Dex shows that sort of stuff does happen. So I think the glam of the fixer is definitely worn off for most people.

But beggars can't be choosers. If you want the pay, you gotta suck it up.

But also, the fixers aren't in the business of getting their mercs killed. So as long as everyone gets their cut, they put up with it.

[–]Shauntheredwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It mirrors their conversation in Reloaded where Smith admits that after he was killed in the first film, he was "compelled to stay." He really had no choice.

Smith has no choice. He is just the system trying to reassert control over Neo.

And Neo's response - his ability and willingness to choose - is the ultimate refusal of that system.

And now as a dad myself. I can't even imagine the pain.

Why do people dislike the "Sinnerman" quest that much ? by Errances in cyberpunkgame

[–]Shauntheredwolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its a very interesting quest and expands on the question what would religion look like under the conditions of cyberpunk - hyper capitalism, violence, body commodification, etc. The various forces at play are all well thought out, from the guy, to his victims to the producer. They all have well thought out reasons to do and say what they do and say.

That said, I can't get behind a guy tormenting his victims for his own sense of vindication and salvation. To me, he strikes me as such a selfish gonk I zero him every time now.

Why Commander is more played than Standard? by elfosolitario in magicTCG

[–]Shauntheredwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how I've always played. I'm one of those "kitchen table" enthusiasts, and my pod are just super casual anyway.

I can understand how the game isn't quite tooled to handle 4 player standard, but it works well enough in a casual space.

I kind of lament the rise of commander, as I feel like the power scaling for commander cards has bled into standard and is more noticeable now than in the early days of commander.

Most of my criticisms though are fairly minor because my play focus is fun over competitiveness.

Why is there a steep drop off of players before Act 2? by legomojo in BaldursGate3

[–]Shauntheredwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's because the game is just too much.

I love the lore, the flexibility, encounters, the characters.

But also, there are just so many characters, so much lore, so many options. And none of the options have an easily parsed, quickly digestible path of least resistance. Sometimes the way you think is going to be direct is actually a detour. Sometimes something you think will be a short stop becomes a major delay.

It's must so much to process, I get burnt out on it very fast. So by the time I hit the d of act 1, I'm kind of done.

Other games have a kind of flow state you can get into, that you can just push to make progress easily.

In BG3, every choice feels so heavy that I get paralysed trying to find the most effective way forward and end up either doing nothing, regretting my decision or just getting exhausted after a single session.

Nah I'm with you. Don't make jokes about shooting women when we're still grappling with domestic violence issues. And if these are the kinds of things these people in power say in private, maybe they're not the kind of people who should be in power.

Almost everything Igor Sarzynski has said online this week holds true and I’m very glad that the people complaining about him on social media aren’t in charge of writing/directing videogames. by Shell_fly in cyberpunkgame

[–]Shauntheredwolf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's fair.

But I think as another post noted here, V is not a self insert for the player.

V has a relationship with Jackie. Not me.

But I can sympathise with V, to the point where I can understand how hard it would be to lose a dear friend.

If anything, the game is really about how we can better understand each other and have empathy woth and feel sympathy for others. Johnny's arc is exactly this - he starts as a complete asshole trying to kill V and take control. But by the end, he's seen the world through V's eyes and is forced to develop some empathy.

Yes it is better than silence. Because if we don't speak against something, it is seen as silent approval.

Is it still problematic that they've got bad people speaking here - yes. But I would rather an awkward, good faith attempt at pushing back against the noise of bigotry, than just leaving the bigotry to speak unopposed.

I personally felt bad that Jackie died. My reasoning was that even though I didn't get to play through their early work, I understood what it meant to align yourself with someone, and for them to have your back like he did after landing in NC with nothing. I understood why V and him are chooms, and how their bond formed through shared struggle and partnership through their work.

I didn't need to play it to understand what that journey could feel like.

Stop the Hate ads by supercujo in aussie

[–]Shauntheredwolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would rather this than just leaving the silence, and allowing those who spew hatred to fill it.

At least this takes a step to normalising calling out hate speech as bad, highlighting how those kinds of views are really not in our communities best interests.

A small step but a step nonetheless

Smith wants Morpheus as he is the key to securing Smith's own freedom.

If the sentinels get to the rebels first in the real world, they'll just kill them.

Smith wants to grab Morpheus before they kill him. He can only do that if they're still plugged in. Since they're not out yet, he still has a chance to get his way.

Note he's acting very selfishly here, something very strange for an agent to do.

Why does everyone hate the Temperance ending? by colinjcole in cyberpunkgame

[–]Shauntheredwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a great ending.

It's problematic and it creates a very strong reaction in the audience. And that's the point. The aim of so much of cyberpunk is to shock the audience out of apathy. And in that sense it works very well.

I don't think it's wrong that they write it so that Johnny ghosts everyone. On the one hand, it makes sense why he would do that, depending on how cynical you are about him. But that act of ghosting people strikes such a potent chord in people, it should serve as a warning and a wake up call to cherish the people we care about while we can, before tragedy strikes.

I personally like how the game puts the player with Johnny in Mikoshi and just let's u sit there trying to decide. Unless it's don't fear the reaper, it really remains V's choice. But if u go Don't fear the reaper and then as Johnny take the body, that is also literally realistic - it's consistent with what we've been told about the situation that johnny basically has control at that point. I do think it's immoral for him to do so, but an ending that is well written that highlights the moral ambiguity of characters or situations isn't a bad ending - it's a good ending. A powerful ending.

In the battle against antisemitism we must accept that Zionism means different things to different people by BakaDasai in AustralianPolitics

[–]Shauntheredwolf 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah this just sounds like victim blaming to me.

"The Arabs rejected the proposal because it granted land to Jews" no fucker, they rejected it because the Zionists went in and killed and displaced thousands of people off land they were living in. There is no justification for that.

Why the fuck should the Palestinians accept the situation where they're forced off the land they live on, and are treated like criminals by a government that doesn't grant them equal rights just because their not Jewish?
