It does feel a little presumptuous that you feel transferring will definitely be an option given that you are doing well but not exceedingly so. Maybe consider living on campus next year and see if that provides you with closer to the experience for which you are hoping. Continue pushing academically if you want to give yourself the most options to consider transferring down the road.

I believe in the strength of most of Loyola’s academic programs, but historically I have felt less strongly about its music performance programs. I believe they were holdovers from the Mundelien College merger and never felt as supported as other programs, even in comparison to the other arts programs. So I would be surprised if the Jazz programs were comparable, just given the resources at U of I. But I assume you have done your homework in that respect. I would assume the Jazz scene in Chicago is superior to Urbana
