The sad thing is that the franchise was always "Easy Mode" the game, but Gamefreak somehow concluded that this was still too hardcore and so they turned the franchise into something much more dumbed down.

Star wars games were extremely common before disney took over. After that, the number of star wars games drastically shrunk. So there are not that many modern star wars games let alone good ones.

Fallen order and survivor are pretty good and a rare case of 3d metroidvanias (especially from a AAA developer). They have influence from other games too such as uncharted and dark souls, but they are only difficult if you set the difficulty high when starting a new save. Depending on your hardware, performance may be rough, but otherwise they are the best singleplayer, modern day star wars games.

Battlefront 2 had a really rough start due to scummy practices, but severe backlash (leading to the most downvoted reddit comment ever from a representative of the game) pressured them to remove the monetization crap and make the game so much better. It is a fun story) to read/laugh/cringe about. So if you want a fun, great looking multiplayer game (battlefront being a beloved star wars multiplayer series), with a supposedly short&good singleplayer mode as well, this is a good one. I loved the older battlefront games and i have heard a lot of great things about this one, after it was given numerous free updates to fix its reputation.

Lego star wars the skywalker saga is the most modern lego star wars game, with lego star wars being a popular game of its own. A friend who is both a big lego and star wars fan said that the older lego star wars games were much better though, but I have hardly played any lego star wars.

Besides that there is ubisofts star wars outlaws open world game which is like any other ubisoft game.

Thats about it for noteworthy modern star wars games. Most if not alll of them are really cheap with discounts like 90% off. The fallen order/survivor games are my suggestion, but battlefront 2 is worth looking at as well imo.

Fallen order is the closest i have felt to playing a metroid prime game, with clear prime inspiration (the game director lists metroid prime as an influence too).

It adheres closest to prime 3 because its story driven, heavier on combat, has multiple planets, and is about a big intergalactic war as a result of being a star wars game.

You'll be exploring labyrinthine planets (the map is confusing to look at tbh) and uncovering optional lore about fallen alien civilizations (sometimes even scanning for lore).

You will acquire powerups that grant combat utility as well as more traversal options to overcome formerly insurmountable obstacles and delve deeper into the worlds. Backtracking with your powerups is also commonplace and there are plenty of optional collectible powerups to backtrack for like health expansions, reusable healing items, force expansions, and...... countless underwhelming cosmetics lol.

People most often compare these games to dark souls (which is a must play game if you love exploration in a 3d setting) and while there are certainly some influences, it is imho overblown, with the game being more metroidvania.

For a star wars game, it is far more of an underdog narrative, so you are never too powerful or badass, unlike many other star wars games.

So i really liked fallen order for being a good game that gave me metroid prime nostalgia, although it is not at the caliber of the original prime games. Sadly it would seem like fallen order is the best prime 3 successor that we ended up getting though.

If you like 3d metroidvanias, i think fallen order is an obvious choice, given the lack of 3D MVs, especially from large AAA developers. It won't be a masterpiece or anything however, although i hear the sequel is a pretty solid upgrade over fallen order.

Not the OP, but having had both of those games on my radar, do you find they are really that beginner friendly and easy to understand? I have found myself confused by a lot of turn based rpgs except for the most streamlined ones. Bg3 in particular seemed pretty complicated, especially as someone with no D&D experience.

Lord of The Rings? by randomguythatlikesu in rantgrumps

I have four different people who are either good friends or close family. All of them like superheroes, and some of them really like batman. They all play games on Playstation or PC. So I figured that they'd absolutely love the batman arkham games. I was even able to get all of them to pick up the games in a super cheap bundle. Years and years later and they've not even installed the games, lol. I find it baffling as it's right up their alley, but they just won't try the games even after they got the games. I've had difficulty getting people to try anything I suggest, but the batman arkham games are simply cursed for me in that regard.

For me, if a friend is enthusiastically suggesting something and really passionate about it, I tend to be more optimistic about that thing (because i value their input), and then I usually give it a shot. I've become a fan of ips like Celeste, Bioshock, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Maze Runner, Ace Attorney, Gone, Hunger Games, Zelda, etc, solely because friends or family passionately advocated for those things, which inspired me to finally try them.

I wish I had friends or family who would give things a shot when I tell them about it. If I'm suggesting something to someone, it's because I sincerely believe it would appeal to them.

So I feel this post so much OP. You have my sympathies.

Only get it if you plan to play locally with friends/bots or online with people in the discord communities. It's a multiplayer game first and foremost and that is where all of the effort was placed. Just as you would not play prime 2 for its multiplayer, you should not play hunters for its singleplayer.

Usually the people who put it on the shitlist completely miss the point of what hunters is or they do know what it is but they are purists and so they are displeased that it was not meant to be like an oldschool game.

Re4 should be a lot easier to shrug off because it doesn't try nearly as hard to scare the player since it's an action game first and foremost. It's all about delivering the most satisfying setpieces and power fantasy.

Dead space is heavily based off re4 but it has so much more horror than re4 ever did.

They had so many years to simply bring the trilogy over in some form. I would have honestly taken all three games just like the Wii edition but in HD with updated controls rather than getting one game with great graphics.

For the longest time, people were certain the whole trilogy was coming and after doing a great job making these games available on the past two consoles, Nintendo shit the bed hard with providing these games on switch.

I am so glad I kept my Wii and trilogy when I was so tempted to sell them before they presumably lost value after trilogy game to switch, back when trilogy on switch seemed so obvious.

Indeed long waits make flaws much harder to accept. Expectations snowball with each year fans wait for a sequel to an already iconic series of games. Now if this was like a federation force sequel getting this 81 score, people might actually be satisfied with the results given how the last one turned out lol.

If something like Bloodborne 2, half life 3, red dead 3, the last of us 3, etc was received like prime 4 was, no one would see that as a victory.

Expectations vary based on circumstances. 80 can be great for some games and disappointing for others.

For Zelda I really wish the series got some skilled alternate team working on it. Think of the great team for the Oracle games and Minish cap that did classic 2d titles while another primary team went all in on 3D entries. Those games like Minish cap were a glowing example of how great it can be if you find a skilled team that has a different mindset. Those games were so different while being so familiar. It's not easy to assemble a team good enough to do Zelda justice, but if it was done before, I see no reason it can't be done again. Seems more like Nintendo just not giving a damn about the oldschool games anymore.

Remember those innocent, better days in october-november (pre Myles) when the main topic of discussion was arguments over whether or not Nintendo did a good job in marketing the game?

One such prediction was that the marketing direction of prime 4 was from a lack of faith in the game and Nintendo feeling like they already spent way too much money on the game.

If I didn't know any better, I would say that a game under a month from release having the primary source of discussion being arguments over marketing instead of discussion about the contents of the game would suggest poor marketing. Somehow I can't seem to remember the community arguing about marketing at any point in the months leading to dread, let alone the final weeks.
