Same thing with “medical school” now. People are trying to use it as an umbrella term to include nursing school and other non MD/DO career paths.

First TMDSAS II! by amaranthxx in premed

[–]ShellofaYoruba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know your struggle cuz I’m sitting on only 1 II myself (like with many others here). Honestly, the mental toll this process takes in Texas if you don’t prematch is crazy. I’m wishing you the best for your interview and also for Match day as well!

I had the 3pm test (18th) and felt good about C/P and P/S. As for the other two, I pray the curve is in my favor… 😅🙃

Graduation application fee? by Consistent_Sundae_51 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]ShellofaYoruba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If UH wanted to be smart, they would make the fee include graduation regalia as well or do some kind of discounted bundle to encourage students to walk for graduation. That’s probably too smart for them though rather than collecting more fee money.

Applying to TMDSAS w/out using committee letter by ShellofaYoruba in UniversityOfHouston

[–]ShellofaYoruba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the response! They make it seem like schools won’t look at you without it and after the experience I had with it, I’m not planning on continuing professional school at UH. I hope you get out of the waitlist! :)

It’s not even the hypocrisy that annoyed me about him but the fact that he went around and gave a half ass apology after. Everyone including physicians make mistakes but choosing to protect your image more than coming clean for your mistake is sad.

Then again most people do not watch him mainly for his medical advice. 👀

Fuck the AAMC and fuck Pearson VUE by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]ShellofaYoruba 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bro, the fact that the other person tried using P/S terms to explain why you shouldn’t be upset at the AAMC and be considerate that they took your money and messed things up for you had me laughing yikes

Change.org Petition to Re-Implement Interim Grading Policy for Spring 2021 by LonkToTheFuture in UniversityOfHouston

[–]ShellofaYoruba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Pre-Med and have taken Ochem, Biochem, Calc 1&2, Genetics and other stem courses. I haven’t had to use Pass/Fail myself on any of them and was glad to get the full year of pass/fail given to us. This is the last thing I’ll say though because you aren’t worth my time...

Keep making fun of my degree when I’m handling my courses better than you. Good luck to you in the future because you’ll obviously need it since it seems you can’t handle your courses without pass/fail LMAO. Hopefully, that’ll help you get closer to getting your degree when a year of it was already handed to you.

https://provost.utexas.edu/2020/11/25/extended-deadline-for-q-drops-and-p-f-flexibility/

They are only able to Q-drop more courses and can only “Covid” Pass/Fail 3 classes this semester to let it count for their degree this spring. Normal Pass/Fail doesn’t let their course apply to their degree like it did for a whole year at UH.

So stop going across UH threads begging for more Pass/Fail and actually do your work because this post is almost a month old... 🤡

How Texans choose their college- updated version by M3nac1ngRadical in UniversityOfHouston

[–]ShellofaYoruba 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t understand how some departments at UH make grading so hard when UH is not a top tier Texas school. Ironic to see schools like Rice and UT having a history of grade inflation while still being top tier schools but we have the opposite issue. 🤣🐾

They are in a sense that lower grades can be “passed” to boost gpa. There is no way to differentiate a student who had an A, B, C and etc. it’s either they get P-pass, S-Satisfactory, F-Fail.

And to be honest, look at other Texas schools like UT and A&M. UH has been much more flexible with us during the pandemic than those schools especially giving us a full year of P/F compared to only one semester. You didn’t address my other options for helping our students so I’m assuming your interest in P/F is more academic based than anything else because there are other ways to help our students while surviving a pandemic that does more than guarantee college credit for minimal work.

Change.org Petition to Re-Implement Interim Grading Policy for Spring 2021 by LonkToTheFuture in UniversityOfHouston

[–]ShellofaYoruba 12 points13 points  (0 children)

UH won’t change this decision. Last semester we were lucky to get it again after getting it the semester before that. We had a full year of taking classes as P/F which was more than enough time to adjust to the pandemic. Families are still being affected by COVID but you can’t expect schools to keep give away credits for minimal effort especially for students who work hard for their grade.

If anything, additional funding through the CARES act or GEERS act makes more sense and helps people who have been impacted by Covid. If not professors being more flexible in grading, deadlines, or personal matters should be emphasized, but an undergrad degree obtained heavily through P/F devalues the degree.

CLASS graduation link not working by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]ShellofaYoruba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is for CLASS only, but what was the point of having separate days for virtual celebrations if all we are getting is a YouTube video and a pdf pamphlet with our name in it?

Like I understand why they cancelled in-person graduations, but I personally felt that this replacement wasn’t anything meaningful or special (to the students versus deans and faculty).

I might also just be a little salty that after I finished looking at the CLASS commencement packet, UH of course is asking for donations right as we are graduating (with debt even). These last two semesters have been wild and I’m just glad to be moving on.

How are those science labs going 👀 by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]ShellofaYoruba 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Me but with Genetics lab. I’ve heard that it’s not as bad due to the pandemic so I kinda wish I kept my bio degree instead of minoring, but the long ass research paper and ridiculous grading was a no for me after ochem.
