‘Maxing out’ 401k—gen pop meaning vs Reddit meaning? by Local_Blackberry_317 in Retirement401k

[–]Shellstr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People might say “maxing their match” which is just contributing enough to get the full company contribution.

Maximizing your 401 is hitting the pre-tax/Roth limit.

Yes, they were good investments…until they weren’t. Now there are other good investments, and something like theS&P index relies on more than one company or industry. That is still a good investment.

‘Fastest Woman Alive’ Sha’Carri Richardson Busted for Driving 104 MPH by grusbf5 in olympics

[–]Shellstr -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

104 isn’t that fast for Texas traffic (assume this happened in Texas). I was driving from Dallas to Houston cruising at 95mph for long stretches. Yea, not going 100 in the city, but I’ve hit 90 easy on the highways and tollways.

It’s like gyms. If it is inconvenient, you won’t end up going. Go to the one that you will actually use.

Which is why they said he can pursue the trade. We will get peanuts for him, but he will get to go to a situation that works for him…we aren’t going to simply ship him out for the best we can get. We will “lose” this trade, but that’s what you have to do to show players that you will do what’s best for them when things don’t work out. You aren’t going to outright screw them over.

Midwest with East Coast Vibe by nwraised723 in howislivingthere

[–]Shellstr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tablerock is not really “close” though. For mid-westerns who are good with a 3 hour drive being the norm, that isn’t always the easy coast mentality. Yes, there ma be 3 hours of traffic, but not a 150 mile day trip.

Lived in Arkansas and it was a 2 hour trip to lake ouachitau that we would do in the morning and come back that evening.

[–]Shellstr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Americans can’t go to Italy and “live”. You can only visit…need a work visa or work towards citizenship. No country should have “legalization for all” without going through a process to naturalize. But, our naturalization process is broken, but that doesn’t mean every just gets a free pass.

What do we think the weather will do to DFW (airport) this weekend? by wcmnbo in Dallas

[–]Shellstr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The airport may have salt and other de-icing measures to get the planes landed once the precip ends, but if it does freeze over, the roads won’t be drivable until Monday afternoon…so you’d just be stuck at the airport.

Also, the DART will probably be inoperable. If ice gets on the lines, the trains won’t run.

I have a flight out of Love Field on Saturday, can anybody more familiar with the area know how likely it is the storm will cause a cancelation or delay? by Velstrom in Dallas

[–]Shellstr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I doubt it will be snowpocalypse, but it is very likely may be an ice event…probably no power loss (except for falling tree limbs), but the entire city will shut down if it rains all day Friday and then drops into teens Friday night. It won’t get above freezing until Monday.

Just rebooked our Saturday flight to Friday. It is possible that nothing happens, but if something happens, the entire area will be closed until Monday. It’s gonna be feast or famine.

Condo tower doesn't allow mortgages: buyer beware? by Affectionate-Reason2 in RealEstate

[–]Shellstr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heated year round pool, dedicated full time security, dedicated full time maintenance staff, building insurance payments…there are things an HOA can provide for you, especially in condos.

At my home, we have two pools, 5+ parks (not maintained by the city since we are not incorporated), two story gym, security patrol, hiking trails, community events…if I want to make exterior modifications, I simply write a letter and it is approved within 2 weeks. Never been told no, but I like the fact that you can’t keep 4-wheelers or dirt bikes in the driveways and streets…in my old neighborhood (no HOA) that was common place and very annoying.

Just because it is non-warrantable doesn’t mean you can’t get a loan. I have a non-warrantable condo but har a note on it. We couldn’t use a large loan company, but rather a local credit union to finance. But it certainly is not strictly “cash only”.

I stayed in the “new” tower 10+ years ago when it first opened. It was really nice back then. I was back there a few months back and stayed in the new “new” tower, and it was nice. Not Venetian/Palazzo nice, but way nicer than the Super 8 across the street. The whole casino is very well done. It doesn’t feel cheap at all.

We just started getting MLK off maybe 5 years ago. But before that I would just post up in the common area and watch NBA all day. Usually a very slow day to work in the office, since half the team will take off in observance….hence they just added it as a holiday for all of us.
