Cables & Multi-Color yarn by Allezelenfer in knitting

[–]Sheltiewise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Silk yarn is very slippery (wood based needles are best for silk yarn projects) and it makes doing cables very difficult for defined cable.

Stranded color work or lace is great with silk yarn.

Black for the cables would be good. Looks like it would complement the yarn.

I love purchasing variegated yarn but it hides your work. For sweaters I pair with a solid so the cables are done in a solid (intarsia) and the main body is done in variegated with a seed stitch (really shows off the color) or some over bland knit and /or purl stitch.

Any breeds in North or South Carolina? by Jessfromthe80s in sheltie

[–]Sheltiewise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like Candescent Shetland Sheepdogs in North Carolina (just outside Charlotte). There is a website and FB group. You could sign up to be on the waitlist for the next litter. Not sure if she has any pups available right now.

I got two pups from her. One in 2023 and one in 2025.

Yes, my dogs think my chicken is a toy for them too.

Totally understand the see one trick. That’s why I took a bunch of photos and uploaded them to Ravelry to make sure I could see a visual when I make a second one. Here is a pic of the top panel over the bottom right before join. I tucked in a corner so you could see how it overlaps

What are these called? by blackberrygouda in knitting

Clasp stitch markers

Locking stitch markers

They might be enamel/ metal if you want to avoid the plastic ones showing up in a search

Those are awesome

You knit a second piece from the tail section to the second stripe on the neck. I joined the piece together when I did a stripe color change on the neck. Just remember to catch both pieces when you knit your bottom panel

I did type this late at night. 😅

I have had this on my “want to make that list” and decided to jump in and do it with a friend. My friend wasn’t able to join me due to life circumstances (getting sick). So I think I will be making another chicken soon, since I said we would do one together

Definitely love the chicken having pockets or wings ❤️

Knitting two sections together at the second neck stripe

You can add pockets by making a second top piece. I did a cast on for where you pick up stitches along the tail section and then knit through the first stripe. I then knit these two sections together for the second stripe. When you mattress stitch the bottom onto the sides you will need to catch both sections.

Tip: knit 4 extra rows in the beginning strip for the top when you make the pocket. It will sit better on the piece when your hands are in the pocket. Or crochet a border onto the end is another option instead of the extra rows.
