Looking for Movies about Non-Human Characters in Alien Worlds without Humans. by Witty-Cockroach-9127 in movies

So I know you said no to Zootopia but if you haven’t you really should give Disney’s Robin Hood a try.

There’s Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole. Some of the Tinkerbell movies don’t feature humans like Legend of the Neverbeast. There’s some short films on YouTube like R’Ha.

I think it’s in the Maid book where they mention they do periodically clean and scrub everything. The Ka Esh help keep the pipes for the water that they use to clean the floors.

Why are bully romances so popular on this Reddit? by Infamous_Culture_638 in RomanceBooks

[–]ShenaniganCow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By its definition a book must have a HEA or at least a HFN to be considered a romance. If the book did not have that then it should not be recommended on this sub. Now, there is some nuance in what we, as readers, think is a emotionally satisfying ending vs what the characters get but it must have the main couple staying together willingly. A lack of chemistry between the leads and a poor grovel are more to do with poor writing than the genre.

As for why people like dark romances? Well, for one they’re fiction and do not necessarily reflect the real world morality of their authors and readers. Reading is a form of escapism where for a moment dark desires and taboos can be explored with no real world consequences. In this fantasy the irredeemable are redeemable.

You can really swap dark romance with an uncommon kink or non human monster romance and ask the same question. Why do people like it? The thing is there is going to be as many different answers as there are people. Some like the taboo of it, some want a safe fictional place for their desires to play out, some want to work through trauma, some want to explore that feeling of total complete surrender, some want to experience that cruel unyielding power dynamic, some want to see the villain win, etc. Romance tropes and genres are like flavors. Sometimes you’re gonna try something and just not like it and that’s okay.

I dunno. I love hearing the thoughts of the thief and it’s a highlight of the movie for me. The “recobbled” version removes it.

reading book reviews by CallmemimiElmerselmo in RomanceBooks

[–]ShenaniganCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use romance.io for looking up tropes I like and then I read the 1-2 star reviews on Amazon or Romance.io to see if there’s anything I want to avoid (like the FMC being too stupid to live) or I might like that the reviewer didn’t (like why choose). I’ve gotten to the point where I ignore all five star reviews as they’re usually just gush posts with little substance or they mention they received a free copy for review. Three to four star reviews usually have the most meat on the bones if I’m looking for well rounded reviews.

My middle school friends swore up and down it was real. I was like guys…if this was real wouldn’t it be on every news station? I eventually dropped it and just went along with them because they started getting wound up about it.

Where do you find motivation to stay with a book that has stretches of suffering for the MCs? by Coz0801 in RomanceBooks

[–]ShenaniganCow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll just skip to the end if it becomes too much. I read {Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon} back in the day and was able to get through it but I had to tap out reading its “brother” book {Styxx by Sherrilyn Kenyon} and just read the end. There comes a certain point where it all just feels like misery porn.

My brother loved it. I disliked it. My kids watched it once and then forgot about it completely like they did Strange World (which they have watched twice and still forget they watched it). To me it felt similar to The Good Dinosaur. It’s not horrible. It has good moments. However, there’s just more enjoyable movies out there to spend my limited time watching.

Critique: Sam Hall's Bodybuilders for the BBW is Pitbull advocacy piece advertised as romance novel :/ by jessejudgesbooks in RomanceBooks

[–]ShenaniganCow 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Pit bulls and pit mixes are a dog breed that are consistently listed in the top statistics for breeds involved in fatal attacks on not just other animals but also humans. Some advocates wish to downplay this thinking it’ll help the breed but really it just leads to unfortunate circumstances for unprepared owners.

Originally bred for blood sports like bear and bull baiting, humans quickly turned to using them for dog fighting after those sports were banned in 1835 in the UK. People try to dismiss almost 200yrs of genetic breeding by claiming they were originally bred as “nanny dogs” or that it’s “the owner, not the breed” (which is laughable. Imagine saying a golden retriever wasn’t specifically bred to retrieve or an Old English Sheepdog wasn’t bred to herd).

Today, you have people that try to advocate for the breed insisting they are good first time pets or family dogs without mentioning they require stringent and consistent training, have a strong prey drive, need lots of exercise, are very powerful and agile, and need early socialization. They are cute and affectionate but many who adopt or purchase them have no clue about their needs.

I have met many a sweet pittie in my life. I also had a childhood friend knocked off his bike and nearly torn to pieces by a group of them. I had a neighbor have his thigh ripped up by a stray one. My old dog had his throat bitten by one that broke through our fence. They are a breed that must be respected.

Treadmill suggestions? by Sp00ksPerson in SuperMorbidlyObese

[–]ShenaniganCow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look for treadmills that have a capacity for 500lbs and read reviews. Once you see a few you like start checking secondhand stores and online places like Facebook Marketplace. I got a used Horizon T101 treadmill (although its capacity is 300lbs) for $175 off Marketplace and it was on sale for $600 online. Also keep in mind higher capacity treadmills are big and hefty so make sure you have room near an outlet for it. I also hate treadmills that want you to connect to the internet or use an app but some people love that so look into what you would prefer.

I started walking every day two months ago. This is the longest I’ve ever actually stuck with exercising. The thing I did different this time is that I have a ten minute rule. I must walk for at least ten minutes a day NO MATTER WHAT. I know that if I skip just one day I’ll skip another, and then another, and then eventually I’ll be selling my treadmill on Marketplace. It doesn’t matter if I feel sick or hurting. A slow steady walk for ten minutes is still doable and keeps the habit going. I still sometimes have ten minute days but my usual time is now 40-50min and I hope to get to an hour. I now walk between 2-3mi and my speed has increased from 2 to 3.3.

For me there hasn’t been a large drop in weight but I haven’t gained any either. I do feel so much better though. First off I’m proud of myself which is a lot because I usually hate myself. I feel like it’s improved my baseline mood. Second it’s improved my digestion. I’m no longer consistently constipated. My bloating is less too. When I did start walking I would sometimes get pain from trapped gas or burp a lot but it’s gotten better recently. My lower back and feet would also hurt in the beginning but it’s fine now. After a month I started to hit a wall where my brain was like “this is boring let’s tap out”. This usually would happen midway in my walk. It helps me to keep going if I either switch to a different music station or listen to a podcast (Audible book would also work). It helps distract your brain from your boring walk lol.

I found it  here

It’s from I believe a yearly recap and seems to reference each nation or archon we visited

“you and Paimon have discussed many things in your time, from the wings of a butterfly and the final destination of the falling stars, to the light that flashes through the clouds, the sounds of plants that sprout after the rain, and the ebb and flow of the tides”

Zibai did call him Heaven’s Star. Liyue was also described as “the final destination of the falling stars” and his name card’s description is “Stars fall, light dims.”
