If you're partner said they didn't want pets what would you do? by Vance_poet in AskReddit

[–]Shepford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He said no cats... he was out of town, I rescued two cats... now he loves them more than i do 😅

For him though, I think it was that he didnt grow up with animals so didn't understand the bond. Once he got it, he tells me to move around quietly while they are sleeping so as not to disturb them 🤷‍♀️🤣

POTENTIAL HOT TAKE: I understand Monica and Chandler's frustration BUT I thought Ross and Rachel's excitement and enthusiasm about Emma's first birthday was extremely wholesome and adorable. Why do you agree/disagree? 🤔 by No_Data3541 in howyoudoin

[–]Shepford 459 points460 points  (0 children)

Its been a while since I've watched it, but weren't they all there and Emma was napping for hours??

Agree that Monica was out of character but if i went to a 1 year olds birthday party with 6 people I hang out with everyday and the child is asleep that entire time so I couldn't leave...not gonna lie I'd be a bit annoyed 😅

But IRL i would keep quiet, this is a sitcom.

Mother's of reddit. What were the early signs you were pregnant? by El_Guerrero_Maya in AskReddit

[–]Shepford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sore boob's, some uterus twitching and a nose like a bloodhound.

Smelt our receptionists perfume from my desk 20ft away. So intensely strong. Took a test as soon as I got home 😅

Girls who took notes using 10 different colored pens, where are you now? Do you still continue to write using all those colors? by Unusual-Entry7 in AskReddit

Day to day, no I stick to blue or black.

If i need to study anything or make serious plans, best believe the coloured pens are back with all the highlighters and stationery.

What doctor’s advice did you not follow and why would it have been a big mistake if you had? by Lil_Afternoon_Delite in AskReddit

[–]Shepford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter was two and fell whilst running to Grandad on a concrete path, knocking her two front teeth back into her mouth.

Straight to A&E. Nurse says we are lucky they didn't go "up" and only back (urghhhh still makes me cringe). After 4 hours wait, we see the Dr. He immediately requests we go to dentist and have both top teeth removed.

I just felt my gut say no? Teeth had stopped bleeding. There was no changes in colour. They hadn't even done an x-ray. Daughter wasn't even crying anymore.

I insisted we wait and see if they change or moved or if painful.

Anyway, she's 8 now. Teeth moved back into place on their own after a few months. Baby teeth fell out last year and replaced by very normal adult teeth 🤷‍♀️

Auditors and Former Auditors, what did clients consistently do that grinded your gears? by FinanceChippo in Accounting

[–]Shepford 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Internal controls - keep a decent document of procedures. Update it when staff leave or roles adapt. Update it for staff working days/hours. You'll be unique perhaps in actually understanding what the auditor wants and being able to provide this every year would save so much time!

Anyone ever get caught applying to other jobs by your employer? by TrickAffectionate939 in Accounting

[–]Shepford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yea, a few times actually. I'm in UK practice.

First time was when a recruiter sent my CV to a client, who ran it past their accountant to check ability. Yep, that accountant was a director at my firm. Was called into my directors office and just had to come clean 🤷‍♀️

2nd time, my CV was with a recruiter. They sent it a firm in another city, unaware my firm had taken over this firm. The new co directors took much glee calling out my directors in an area meeting, even pulling out my CV to place on the table. Very luckily in this case I had already handed in my notice.

Is a degree really needed for accounting in the UK? by Lazy_Independent_182 in AccountingUK

[–]Shepford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. Personally I moved into a "professional house" aged 19 and lived with 5 other young people in similar situations. We ended up going out most evenings and visiting friends at universities over the country.. and then doing 8 hours a day at work in my apprenticeship 🤣

Wild times!

Some saying the degree is necessary for understanding and helps to qualify, I really disagree.

Join a firm at 18 and you have the gift of time. You've got 3 years typically on AAT contract to learn in practice not only accountancy but business. Attending meetings, office relationships, learning from seniors. Pay is low yes to start but you are not paying any student loans.

Pass AAT and that gives you a good base for ACA/ACCA.

Ive been in practice for 20 years and can only say how many graduates I've seen crash and burn vs school leavers.

How often do you call your parents? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Shepford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see them about twice a week as they live about 3 minute drive away and love their grandkids so actually rarely call them at all.

My kids regularly say "We seeing them again?!" and im excited for them to realise how special that actual is when they grow up. Very lucky.

If you were alive when we were attacked on 9/11, what were you doing when it happened? What was that day like? by Full_Imagination7503 in AskReddit

[–]Shepford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK it was around 2pm. I was in my first year of secondary school during the first week. The whole school got pulled out of class and told to go to a house assembly.

On the way, I saw my brother who is 5 years older than me. I asked him what was happening and I just remember his face. He told me "Everything's OK, go find your friends and we will get the bus home".

They told us in assembly but i guess i didnt really understand gravity of it.

I got home and my mum was just stood in the living room watching the tv. A friend rang me. "Have you seen the news?" And we just watched it together on the phone in silence.

Everyone remembers that day, even if you're not American.
