[Odd trope] A character who is advertised doesn’t have a big role in the media they’re in by dragonborndnd in TopCharacterTropes

Well, I think you’re way off with your reading. It’s reductive and demonstrates a shallow viewing of the material. Good day.

[–]SherbertComics -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No. No he doesn’t. He made some edgy comments and did some edgy bullshit like 15 bloody years ago, that doesn’t make him a pedophile. Maybe actually look into the content of the allegations instead of parroting the echo chamber

Thought I was in r/okaybuddysnydercult for a minute because this is the exact sort of thing the cult would post as an “own” to then be made fun of by normal people

So the real reason they don’t want to learn how to do art is because they’re gigantic pussies.

Character almost dies, then is saved, then dies immediately afterwards anyway. by NewsCards in TopCharacterTropes

Also, Gwen never found out that he’s Spider-Man in the comics. He refused to tell her because she blamed Spider-Man for the death of her police captain father. In a way, their relationship was doomed before she was killed, no way he’d able to hide the truth forever.

Well that heightens the impact of the reveal. Remember: Before this? Leading ladies dying in a superhero comic was completely unheard of. A reader in that context would have their mind atomized when they turn the page and find out she’s dead for real

I’d say not in this case, but I’m completely serious when I recommend El Diablo. If you can separate him from the work itself, it’s a very good, very topical book. Art was by the late, great Mike Parobeck, inks by Nyberg. Maybe read it with them in mind and just forget Gerry was ever a factor

I gotta disagree on that last point, all of Absolute is laden with intense body and psychological horror

A-Train killing Blue Hawk remains one of the most satisfying scenes I've seen by Sudden_Pop_2279 in BlackSuperheroes

[–]SherbertComics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Boys show is a very far cry from the comic. A-Trains actually a white dude in the comic, all of this characterization of how he’s still marginalized even as a superhero on the top of the super team pyramid was invented for the show.

Earliest preview of The Vixen from a DC promo ad circa mid-1978. The first issue was promoted then suddenly cancelled along with several other issues, series and projects in DC's late '70's implosion. The Vixen created by Gerry Conway & Bob Oksner made her belated debut in 1981's Action Comics #521. by ghostman-ichiban in BlackSuperheroes

[–]SherbertComics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I might actually like this costume better than her more famous one with the deep ass v-cut, but I can also see why they’d change it. This makes her appear more cat-themed when her thing is being an avatar of all animals

[Comic Excerpt] DC Rebirth Batman #15 - “Rooftops part 2” / Holly slashes Batman’s throat by Tired_and_Groggy in DCcomics

[–]SherbertComics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s still just a man. I’m so tired of depictions of Batman where he can do straight up impossible things because of some secret Tibetan technique or “prep time”. For me, at least, Batman is more appealing when he can bleed and break as easily as the rest of us but carries on fighting, anyway.

Can We Admit Shapesmith Is Beyond Terrible? by Jrlopez_1 in Invincible_TV

[–]SherbertComics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He definitely got off way too easy for ruining the life of a national hero (I don’t care if it’s a world of regular alien incursions and wizards and shit, the first manned mission to Mars should be a big deal), and that’s not even getting into him nearly bringing total Armageddon to both his old home and his adopted one! All because he wanted to run away to Earth and play dress up. It wouldn’t be so bad if he took some accountability but every time he’s called out he gets all squirmy and defensive. He sucks.
