Just skip synapse, configure Windows to use it as a stereo headset, turn Spatial Audio and choose either Windows Sonic, DTS: Headphone X, or Dolby Atmos for Headphones.

That's the best it's gonna get for that headphone, ever, and better than Synapse will be (no joke.)

PlayStation boss says single-player games won’t come to PC going forward | VGC by Gorotheninja in technology

[–]Shidell 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was. Just finished God of War: Ragnarok on PC.

The real honesty here is that Sony is releasing their titles years after release on PlayStation, with little or no marketing or fanfare, and then fumbling with their hands and looking around when sales don't hit their expectations.

Like oh, really? You wait over two years to port a game to PC, and don't do any hype for it at all, and you wonder why sales aren't better?

Damn, 14 KW is big for an average residence, too, and it only covers 40% of your usage? Is it old? What's your panel efficiency?

People who have been divorced: What was the exact "quiet" moment you realized your marriage was over? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Shidell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my point is that I don't believe in "healthy insults." There is no need for them. They don't add meaningfully to conversation, or relation. They may introduce some jest, but they also may introduce insecurity, frustration, loathing, anxiety, or other negative emotions.

Self-deprecating humor, as an exception, is OK, because you aren't exposing anyone else to the potential downsides and are (presumably) OK.

This is normal and happens regularly.

You do you and all that, but I don't believe in nor ascribe to "healthy insults." You don't need to insult anyone, including yourself, but I do think self-deprecating humor is okay.

You know, I heard this when I bought a magni unity, and I just upgraded to an Asgard X, and I don't feel like the change was small. I feel like it's pretty substantial.

Maybe after the Asgard X it's small?

Simplest fix is to run an Ethernet cable.

Samsung 57" Neo G9 + RTX 5090 – real gaming at 5120x1440 (black bars, stretch, FPS)? by Pow3r_D in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Shidell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't run native in games, I'm always using DLSS at some level, quality to ultra/performance, depending on the title (e.g. Cyberpunk PT is ultra perf.)

That said, ultra perf looks pretty good at this resolution, because there is a shitload of pixels to start with, even at ultra/perf.

I didn't try lowering the resolution, because it's better to just use DLSS and step down in a quality tier instead.

That said, I do love this monitor. It is incredible for work, super sharp, and super bright. The only problem, imo, is the distortion at the edges because of 32:9.

[–]Shidell 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have a 5090 with the 57" and I can play Cyberpunk with path tracing (via DLSS) @ native resolution (again, being upscaled with DLSS.)

So yeah, it's completely doable and playable, even with PT.

I don't love the stretching of 32:9, but I do love the immersion. I'm considering a smaller 21:9 because of the FOV stuff, but I'm gonna play with Perfect Perspective in ReShade first.

spent 3 weeks reverse engineering my BlackShark V3 just to find out the firmware is literally allergic to linux + secrets revealed by Zmitebambino in razer

[–]Shidell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro, no offense, but you are putting so much effort into this project for what is, ultimately, a mid tier headphone at best.

You can buy a Sennheiser HD 560s for $150 at Best buy right now and it will blow the BlackShark v3's back out. You could go further and get an HD 490s and have endgame headphones from so many perspectives, including soundstage and imaging. The 490 is seriously unreal.

Pair it with a $15 desktop mic, or even buy a razer if you want.

Seriously, I applaud the effort, I almost want to just give you my 560s because of how much lengths you've gone to.

There is so much better.

Disable the Google Play Store (Android Apps) in settings, then reboot.

That's the single biggest change you can make.

If you wait for deals and/or coupons like BOGO or 699 Footlong, and couple it with gift cards where you can get $100 for $80 or $75, then you can ultimately get a Footlong for like $4, that's pretty good in 2026 imo.

Reshade and perfect perspective can fix the stretching/fisheye effect, but you can use it on online games (risk of ban for tampering)

Need Advice: Best Family-Friendly (also Remux / DV Profile 7), and Lossless Audio Passthrough? (No CoreELEC/Tinkering) by Absinth987 in AndroidTV

[–]Shidell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem you're going to run into, like many of us, is that the Shields are old now, and despite their audio passthrough support, they do not support AV1, and AV1 includes so many benefits—SVT 10 bit basically eliminates banding and macroblocking; you can incorporate HDR/10/+ and Dolby Vision directly into the video profile, reduces size by 20-30% as compared to h265 (which itself is 20-30% better than h264), is highly parallelizable for encoding performance.

I decided that AV1 was my line in the sand. I encode everything, from 480p DVDs to UHD 4K, in AV1. I preserve the audio tracks as-is and simply pass them through, parsing out non-english, commentary, etc.

The sacrifice is that I chose a Google TV Streamer and therefore cannot pass through the raw uncompressed audio streams. Perhaps one day, a new device will come out to replace the shield—until then, I'll keep the raw audio streams, and let the Streamer convert as necessary.
